Image
For a decade starting in 2005, writer/producers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker produced a stage show at La’s Largo at the Coronet, later adding a popular podcast in the style of old-time radio.

The show featured a Who’s Who of young acting talent (known as the Workjuice Players), culled from TV, film, stand-up, sketch, animation, and the theater. Guest stars included everyone from Joseph Gordon Levitt and Weird Al Yankovich to Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, and more. The podcast received over two million downloads.

Now, the show has returned in a livestream version, bringing back the regular cast, who will be “on stage” via Zoom. Three shows in April and May having raised over $50,000 for food banks in La, NY and other Us cities.

Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
Cult Movie Performed By Original Cast Live
Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
On Saturday, Jan. 21, lucky attendees of Sf Sketchfest got to witness an event a decade in the making: A staged recreation of the cult classic "Wet Hot American Summer" by (most of) the original cast at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre in San Francisco, CA.

The 2001 summer camp movie parody, made primarily by members of comedy troupe The State on a shoestring budget, was a box office failure upon its theatrical release. But the following decade has been kind to "Wet Hot." Today, the movie has become a sort of comedy calling card, and telling someone that you're a fan of "Wet Hot American Summer" immediately sends a message about your sense of humor: Straight faced and silly simultaneously, hyper self-aware and more than a little ironic.

At Sf Sketchfest, one of most highly regarded comedy festivals in America that leans on so-called "alternative" comedy, much of the "Wet Hot" cast...

National Lampoon brings back Lemmings
John Belushi in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
NEW YORK -- National Lampoon will return to producing live entertainment by bringing back a re-imagined version of the Lemmings sketch comedy troupe, which launched the careers of John Belushi, Christopher Guest and Chevy Chase.

The company on Wednesday described the new show, called "National Lampoon Lemmings Comedy Troupe Presents America 2.0," as a 90-minute interactive show with short videos between sketches. It is designed as "a satire on today's blown-out tabloid world."

Characters include the Gangsta Rap Wizards and Michael Vick touting his new dog food.

As did its 1970s counterpart, the new Lemmings comedy troupe will showcase young sketch comedians.

"We have created a stable of talented actors, writers and filmmakers we look to grow within our family in our many television, film and Internet projects," said Lemmings producer Amber Lawson.

The Lemmings show was created by Lawson, director-producer Jay Leggett ("In Living Color", "Without a Paddle") and executive producer Scott Rubin.

The Lemmings cast includes Adam Devine, Anders Holms, Annie Savage, Blake Anderson, Jen Cain, Jillian Bellcq, John Moody, Mark Gagliardi and Sitara Falcon.
