Best known in the Philippines as "Bodjie" from the top rating horror-comedy TV show, "Midnight DJ" of TV 5, Joaqui started his career in entertainment after becoming a finalist of the radio drama contest "Awit Tawanan" of DZMM. He eventually became a voice talent for many films, including his own radio segment in "Love Lines with Joey Galvez," making him one of the youngest radio personalities in the country at the age of 17.
Having background in theater, improv and spoken word, Joaqui Tupas' brand is characterized as witty, comedic and comical with a touch of geekiness and poetic eloquence. With his distinct style of using traditional Philippine poetry (Balagtasan) in his performance pieces, he is in to spoken word, has been in multiple open mics in the Philippines, and is famously known as the "Godfather" amongst the Filipino spoken word community.
It was in hosting the successful morning show, "Hapinas", at QTV that he took the name of "Joaqui Tupas" - as suggested by his producer Vincent Pozon (one of the Philippines leading branding gurus). He also hosted a mockumentary musical show called "Remix Report". He has been a part of many film, TV, live events and advertisements, performing various functions like acting, producing, directing, script writing, and other production roles both on and off camera.
With his interest in science and technology at an early age, Joaqui has won numerous inventor awards, including being a finalist for a SIBOL Award at The National Inventors Contest of the Philippines at the age of 15. In 2015, he was a cohort for the Impact Hub energy competition for his startup project which creates energy from kinetic wind sculptures.
In 2017, he immigrated to the US and became a high school Algebra and Film teacher at a Native American reservation in Arizona. Joaqui currently lives in NYC (Queens) and is making his way into the American showbiz market.
