November will see a plethora of new films added to Paramount+, among them Transporter 3. Fans may be frustrated that only the third film is joining the library without its predecessors, both of which performed better with critics and filmgoers.

This is the third entry in the franchise that was originally started by Jason Statham but went on to be rebooted with Ed Skrein. Following poor box office performances, the exit of original star Statham, and a lack of vested interest in fans in the reboot, the franchise has gone to ground. And with the third film being added to the Paramount+ line-up without its predecessors, this suggests the franchise will likely not be moving forward any time soon.

Yellow Veil Pictures and Vinegar Syndrome have released the hypnotic and beautifully meditative trailer for Riddle of Fire, a movie that was included in the lineup at last year’s Fantastic Fest and Midnight Madness at TIFF. The trailer plays like a fever dream as writer and director Weston Razooli takes you on a unique journey through the eyes of children as they make their way through the forest and encounter many threatening figures, which plays out like a dark fairy tale.

“This neo-fairytale set in Wyoming, USA follows three mischievous children as they embark on an odyssey when their mother asks them to run an errand. On the hunt to obtain her favourite blueberry pie, the children are kidnapped by poachers, battle a witch, outwit a huntsman, befriend a fairy, and bond together to become best friends forever.”

Mister Smith Entertainment has clinched first key international sales on Weston Razooli’s “Riddle of Fire.”

Among major territories, Mister Smith has closed Japan (Klockworx), France (ASC Distribution) and Spain (Flamingo Films). Deals build on a co-u.S acquisition by Yellow Veil Pictures and Vinegar Syndrome, which plan a domestic theatrical bow in early 2024, releasing the film on 35mm.

“Riddle of Fire” has also been sold to Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Greece (Odeon) and Femeway/The Film Group and Front Row Filmed Entertainment for the Middle East, Singapore (the Shaw Organization), ex-Yugoslavia (Blitz Film) and worldwide airlines and ships (Anuvu).

Razooli’s first feature made its debut in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and its North American premiere as the Toronto Festival’s Midnight Madness closing-night film.

A highlight on Mister Smith’s AFM slate, “Riddle of Fire” has additional territories in negotiations, which Mse will attempt to close in Santa Monica.

The film was also an official selection at this year’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and will screen on the closing night of the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section. Protagonist Pictures has concluded sales in several territories for Israel Horovitz’s feature debut My Old Lady, starring Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline and Kristin Scott Thomas; shooting to begin in Paris on Sept 26.

The film has sold to the UK (Curzon Film World), Australia and New Zealand (Hopscotch/eOne), Germany and Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Scandinavia (Svensk), Benelux (Imagine), South Africa (Nu Metro), Israel (Lev Films), Greece and Cyprus (Feelgood), Middle East (Front Row), Portugal (Lusomundo), and Airlines (Eim).

Cohen Media Group’s acquistition of the film for North America was announced last week.

The cast is led by Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Dominique Pinon.

BBC Films is backing the project.

The film is written by Horovitz, on whose award-winning play the screenplay is based. Horovitz’ screenwriting credits include Istvan Szabo’s Sunshine, Author! Author!, and Cannes Prix du Jury winner The Strawberry Statement.

Kristin Scott Thomas has joined Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline and Dominique Pinon have joined the cast of Israel Horovitz’s feature debut.

The project starts shooting in Paris on Sept 26. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.

The North American deal was negotiated by Cohen Media Group Executive VP Gary Rubin and Cinetic Media’s John Sloss and Steven Farneth on behalf of the producers.

The story is about a New Yorker (Kline) who goes to sell a flat he inherited from his estranged father. He discovers a refined older woman (Smith) living there with her daughter (Scott Thomas).

Producers are Rachael Horovitz (Moneyball), Gary Foster (Sleepless in Seattle) Nitsa Benchetrit and David Barrot.

Faces in the Crowd has a new official trailer, which shows more of actress Milla Jovovich and of serial killer Tearjerk Jack. In the clip, Milla as Anna Marchant suffers a fall which damages her brain. After recovery she experiences an impairment known as prosopagnosia.

This is a real life neurological deficit that affects the ventral stream of the temporal lobe. This is somewhat near the brain stem, or the lower portion of the brain. Usually, this impairment is caused by lesions in the brain suffered from a stroke, but it would not be hard to imagine a hard fall causing a hemorrage. Any blood on the brain then destroys any brain tissue. Thanks Psych' 337 (Human Perception).
