Nailed It's Behind-The-Scenes Detail Explains Why The Bakers Are So Horrible
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag. Contestants on Nailed It! have no timer during baking; they must track the time themselves, making it a unique challenge. Behind-the-scenes Nailed It! takes up to 14 hours to film, with only 30-minute episodes, and contestants are given very basic instructions. Nailed It! challenges are created by a team who aim for comedic outcomes, inspired by Pinterest fails.

Nailed It! has become one of the most popular cooking shows on Netflix, with audiences relishing watching chefs fail to recreate baked masterpieces.

The premise for Nailed It! is simple: a group of amateur bakers try to make the impossible happen in a limited amount of time. The winner of each episode gets a $10,000 prize, but the show is less about who wins the competition and more about who is the most entertaining.

Queer Eye's Antoni Reveals Which Chef He’s Like On Easy-Bake Battle
Image
When it comes to inspiration for his new hosting job on Netflix's Easy-Bake Battle, Queer Eye's Antoni Porowski admits he looks more towards Ina Garten than he does Gordon Ramsay. Antoni has been Queer Eye's food and wine expert since the Queer Eye For The Straight Guy revival debuted on Netflix. While fans eagerly await the New Orleans-set Queer Eye season 7, Antoni has taken on a new role as the host of Easy-Bake Battle, eschewing his epicurean station on Queer Eye for that of culinary-competition judge and host.

In an interview with Et Canada, Antoni spoke about the icons he modeled himself after when going from expert to presenter for Easy-Bake Battle. The first suggestion during the interview was that Antoni looked to Gordon Ramsay for inspiration, which drew stunned disbelief from the Queer Eye host. Antoni explained that he cannot be Gordon because "I apologize for taking...

Nicole Byer (‘Nailed It’ and ‘Big Beautiful Weirdo’) on 3 Emmy bids and the joke that made her laugh ‘really, really hard’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
Nicole Byer is a three-time nominee at the 2022 Emmys, for hosting and producing the competition series “Nailed It” and for writing her variety special “Nicole Byer: Bbw (Big Beautiful Weirdo).” She was previously nominated for Emmy Awards in 2020 and 2021, so does this year’s recognition still give her the same thrill? “It’s always really nice when people are saying, ‘Your work is good and we like it and we think it deserves to be recognized,'” the comedian tells me, adding that she’s “very proud” of both Netflix projects. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

As the nominated host of “Nailed It,” Byer gets to choose one episode to submit to Emmy voters and she went with the Season 6 premiere, “Im-Paw-sible Cakes.” Why did she choose this installment, which featured a dog theme and guest host Wayne Brady? “It was one specific joke,” she reveals, referring to when...

‘Queer Eye’ Star Antoni Porowski Is Cooking Up His Own Empire Beyond Netflix’s Fab Five
Image
After Antoni Porowski was cast on Netflix’s 2018 reboot of “Queer Eye” and skyrocketed to fame as the makeover show’s boyishly charming food expert, he found himself struggling to say no.

For years, he’d hustled as a busboy and waiter in upscale New York eateries while auditioning for acting gigs. So when he finally got the job that meant he could blend, rather than balance, entertainment and food, he wanted to go all-in.

“I went through a weird phase when ‘Queer Eye’ came out where I was like, ‘I’m not going to enjoy myself,’” he says over breakfast at the downtown Manhattan restaurant The Smile. “I’m just going to work and hustle. I’m going to do every single endorsement.”

His yes phase proved to be rewarding, leading to cookbooks, a fast-casual restaurant in New York City’s West Village (which closed during the pandemic), and brand deals to tout espresso,...

‘Queer Eye’ Star Antoni Porowski to Host Netflix Cooking Competition Series ‘Easy-Bake Battle’ (Exclusive)
Image
Antoni Porowski, the resident foodie on Netflix’s hit show “Queer Eye,” is taking his culinary talents to another reality series for the streamer.

In his first big swing outside of “Queer Eye,” Porowski will host and executive produce Netflix’s newest cooking competition series, “Easy-Bake Battle.” It already completed filming and will be released in the fall.

Inspired by the popular children’s toy, “Easy-Bake Battle” spotlights home chefs who go head-to-head in two rounds of savory and sweet challenges using only an Easy-Bake-style oven. Adult cooks — unlike the miniature kitchen appliance, this competition series is not suited for children — will compete for 25,000 in each battle. The winner has the chance to win up to 100,000.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Life is complicated, but cooking doesn’t have to be! Enter Easy-Bake Battle, a new culinary competition series inspired by Hasbro’s iconic Easy-Bake Oven, featuring skilled and ultra clever home cooks,...

‘Nailed It!’ Judge Jacques Torres Reveals the ‘Biggest Mistake’ That Keeps Contestants From Actually Nailing It
Nailed It! (2018)
Netflix’s hot mess of a baking competition series “Nailed It!” debuts its sixth season Wednesday. In honor of the the show’s return, we spoke with judge and co-host Jacques Torres about how these amateur bakers could actually win the reality contest — even though most of them are predisposed to epic fails — by avoiding the “biggest mistake” he and co-host Nicole Byer have seen.

“We always have at least one baker, sometimes three bakers, that forget the clock,” Torres, who is known as Mr. Chocolate for his world-renowned confections, tells TheWrap. “This is the biggest mistake that they make, they forget the clock. They forget that an hour and a half, or an hour and 25 minutes, come to an end. So they will take their time at the beginning.”

He continued: “Also, what they do a lot of time, they don’t make a roadmap on their mind. They don’t think,...

Netflix Releases ‘Nailed It!’ Season 6 Trailer (TV News Roundup)
Image
Netflix released a trailer for Season 6 of “Nailed It!,” which premieres Sept. 15.

In the new season, the bakers face even tougher challenges than ever before, including making paranormal pastries, celebrating Black history by creating edible versions of historical icons, and recreating chocolate masterpieces inspired by judge and chocolatier Jacques Torres.

The trailer, which you can watch below, begins with host Nicole Byer playing with edible versions of herself, Torres and assistant director Weston Bahr as she gears up to have the contestants create pastries in their likeness for a competition.

“I just love seeing the misfortune of others,” says actor Jack McBrayer, who appears as a contestant this season. Naturally, this line of dialogue is followed by him making a mistake of his own while baking.

While McBrayer is the only celebrity contestant this season, celebrity judge in Season 6 include Wayne Brady, Sam Richardson, Reggie Watts, Big Freedia, June Diane Raphael and Sasheer Zamata.

Nicole Byer Reveals How The Youngest ‘Nailed It’ Fans Helped Her Land Acting Jobs
Image
“Nailed It” host Nicole Byer remembers her initial reaction to being nominated for an Emmy last year. “Honestly, when people say it’s just an honor to be nominated, you’re like, ‘That’s bullshit. You wanted to win.’ I was up against RuPaul. And like the people of ‘Shark Tank.’ I was not going to win,” she says. “And that’s okay with me. So, it was an honor to be nominated.”

This year, Byer is once again nominated in the host for a reality or competition program category, for “Nailed It.” And as an executive producer of the Netflix series, she’s also part of the team nominated for the show as outstanding competition program.

“It made me feel like yes, like I elevated hosting, like, I brought something very different to hosting and it was recognized,” she told Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, in an interview conducted...

Why Kooky Cakefest ‘Nailed It!’ Decided to Double Down on Contestants for Season 5
Nicole Byer
You can use visual effects and green screens to create everything from monsters to Manila if you got the dough to do it, but a uniquely lopsided, wonky cake? Not so easy. But when the big Covid shutdown of 2020 occurred, executive producers Jo Sharon and Casey Kriley had to find a creative way to maintain production to satiate the appetites of fervent fans of Netflix’s baker recreation series. The solution: baker pairs.

“It was a great way to evolve the show creatively as well as dealing with Covid, because all of those bakers have pre-existing relationships”, says Sharon, regarding this past season which involved laugh-out-loud sweet confections based on sea creatures, fast-food impostors and even recreations of Grandmas. Kriley adds: “Having teams of two, we were so thrilled to see how much more kind of energy and interaction it brought to the show.”

You would think the addition of...

From ‘Drag Race’ to ‘The Masked Singer,’ Here’s How Unscripted Handled Production Pivots Amid the Pandemic
Image
From celebrity cameos to out-of-the-box approaches to a host who wanted to preside over a competition series from inside a giant hamster ball, producers of reality TV series thought creatively to ramp up production mid-pandemic.

“Producers produce. They’ll find a way to get it done,” says Clay Newbill, executive producer of ABC’s “Shark Tank. “But this was different. It was difficult to produce in a landscape where the rules are constantly changing. And by rules, I don’t mean the safety protocols. I just mean everything because this impacted every single aspect of production.”

Newbill says “Shark Tank” producers started looking at other locations out of concern that Los Angeles County would still be locked down when the show needed to film in August to get on ABC’s fall schedule. After regular Shark and NBA Mavericks owner Mark Cuban saw an impressive presentation by Las Vegas’ Venetian...

‘Nailed It!’ Host Nicole Byer On Keeping The Competition Safe And Silly During Covid-19: “You Try To Just Have As Much Fun As You Can Safely”
Image
Nailed It! is all about seeing the fun in failure and, as host of the show, Nicole Byer brings the excitement and levity needed for this Netflix competition series. Comedian Nicole Byer and French pastry chef Jacques Torres host this reality baking series inspired by the internet trend of people trying and failing to make elaborate cakes. This season of the competition series, dubbed Nailed It! Double Trouble, has double the bakers as the contestants are now in teams of two, which Byer says led to some great pairs. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean the end result was any better. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, Double Trouble had to be more distanced than the previous seasons, but that didn’t lessen the fun and chaos of the show.

Deadline: Having double the bakers, did you expect better cakes or for the cakes to be twice as bad?

Nicole Byer: You know,...

‘Nailed It!’ Host Nicole Byer Talks Season 5 Team Format: “Was It A Treat To Watch? Absolutely” – Contenders TV Docs + Unscripted
Image
The fifth season of the Netflix reality baking competition series Nailed It! is serving up a new format, where teams of two are competing to re-create edible masterpieces for a $10,000 prize. But, to Emmy-nominated host Nicole Byer’s surprise, two heads aren’t always better than one.

“That’s what you would think. You would think two heads are better than one,” she said during her appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event. “I think it’s a symptom of our society. I think people have trouble communicating. And then I think when you’re thrown into a very high-pressure situation — I’m screaming at you. There’s cameras. Jacques Torres is a world-renowned chef — and you’re like, ‘Oh, I have to do things.’ I don’t think having someone extra in the kitchen is always helpful.”

While working in pairs didn’t necessarily elevate the outcome for the amateur bakers,...

‘Nailed It: Season 4′ Review (Netflix)
Nailed It (2018)
Nailed It: Season 4 is a high energy show that shows a side to amateur baking that we, as an audience, never really get to see – one that will have you all shouting at the screen and rolling in laughter!

If you have not heard of this show before, Nailed It is a series which features completely amateur bakers taking part in the show to try and bake some of the most complicated and difficult cakes I have ever seen, with the hopes of winning some cash. Due to the contestant’s lack of skills it leads to some very hilarious scenes – and cakes – at the end of the show. I think too many times we hear of people who have never baked before being able to make the most wonderful cakes so its nice to see the actual struggle in baking.

This show is hosted by Nicole Byer and...

Nailed It host Nicole Byer says her exclusion from an image promoting the Netflix show was resolved after she raised the issue on social media.

What is the opposite of “Nailed it“?
