The Pope’s Exorcist may be chapter one in a trilogy
Image
It’s been almost exactly one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but everything has been quiet since then. During a recent interview with The Six O’Clock Show, Crowe confirmed that a sequel is in development – and that The Pope’s Exorcist was actually meant to be chapter one in a trilogy!

As it turns out, things have been quiet on the Pope’s Exorcist front because there was a behind-the-scenes shake-up with the studio executives, but it sounds like Crowe still has hopes that the trilogy is going to happen. He told The Six O’Clock Show (with thanks to MovieWeb for the transcription), “(A sequel) is in discussion at the moment. The...

‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ Starring Russell Crowe Is the #1 Movie on Netflix Right Now
Image
Brought to the big screen by Sony earlier this year, The Pope’s Exorcist was quietly a box office hit back in April, scaring up $76 million worldwide on a production budget of just $18 million. We’ve heard that a sequel is already in early development, and Sony is surely thrilled to hear that the Russell Crowe film is finding even more of an audience over on Netflix.

The Pope’s Exorcist hit Netflix on August 16 and it’s currently the #1 most popular movie on the streaming service, beating out films including brand new Netflix Originals like The Monkey King and Heart of Stone. It didn’t take long for the film to shoot to the top of Netflix’s charts, no doubt aided by its profile being raised by the theatrical release earlier this year.

There’s nothing remarkable about The Pope’s Exorcist, either good or bad, but a fun performance...

Image
Academy Award winner Russell Crowe plays real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in The Pope’s Exorcist, which is now available to watch on PVOD ($24.99) at home.

Bloody Disgusting has been provided with an exclusive featurette video this afternoon, teasing the film’s at-home release and featuring insights from star Russell Crowe and more.

“It’s very hard to make original exorcism-based material,” producer Jeff Katz notes. So how did the filmmakers go about bringing something different to the exorcism arena?

“There’s definitely levels of intrigue and investigation in the movie which feel different from what you might find in another type of horror film,” Russell Crowe explains in the video.

Julius Avery (Overlord) directed The Pope’s Exorcist.

In The Pope’s Exorcist, “Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican’s leading exorcist, investigates the possession of a child and uncovers a conspiracy the Vatican has tried to keep secret.”

‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ Sequel in Early Development! [Exclusive]
Image
Academy Award winner Russell Crowe plays real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in The Pope’s Exorcist, the brand new horror movie from director Julius Avery (Overlord). The Screen Gems horror movie has thus far scared up $52 million worldwide, and Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that a sequel to The Pope’s Exorcist is now in early development.

Bloody Disgusting’s sources indicate that development is underway on The Pope’s Exorcist 2, but we don’t have any further details at this time. We do expect Crowe to return.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

The smart thing about The Pope’s Exorcist is that the production budget was quite low, reportedly just $18 million. This set the horror movie up for success, allowing it to become profitable in theaters after just one week of release. The same can’t be said about Universal’s Renfield, which reportedly cost $65 million and has thus far made just $17.9 million.

‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ Review: A Terrific Russell Crowe Battles Demons In Movie Possessed By The Memory Of A Certain 50-Year-Old Horror Classic
Image
It is hard to look at any movie with “Exorcist” in its title and not immediately think of William Friedkin’s eternal 1973 Oscar-winning horror classic that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Nevertheless there have been dozens of films of various stripes that have tried to conjure their own magic in this sub-genre, but none that have managed to surpass what Friedkin and screenwriter William Peter Blatty did with that brilliant film.

Now though, with a bit of a twist we have a new entry, The Pope’s Exorcist, which is hoping to lure audiences with the promise of the story of an actual exorcist — and not just any run-of-the-mill demon slayer but rather Father Gabriele Amorth, who for 36 years plied his trade at the Vatican, rising to chief exorcist there in 1992 until his death in 2016. Along the way he wrote books, “good ones” as this film notes, An Exorcist...

Zoe Saldana Will Play Guardian Half-Angel Over Her ‘Dominion’
Now that we’ve all ogled Zoe Saldana’s goodies in the exploitation schlockfest Colombiana, the actress can step off of the publicity circuit and start work on something new. What’s that going to be? I’m glad you asked. According to THR Saldana is moving on a project called Dominion that’s something of a supernatural thriller. It’s about a creature that is a hybrid of an angel and a human, and Saldana seems to be perfect for the role because, well, she’s really pretty. Some might say angelic. It’s coming from a pitch by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, a relatively new-on-the-scene writing team who have credits in two upcoming films, one a familiar sounding thriller called You’re My Angel, and the other a film about a video store clerk who worships Sam Raimi called Fanboy. In a first for Saldana, this job will force her to rely on a...

The Paramount project, scripted by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, centres on a woman who is half human and half angel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No further details have been disclosed.

The original story, based on allegedly real events, is about a naval military test in 1943 that used massive electromagnetic fields to make the destroyer USS Eldridge invisible. Zoe Saldana Finds Dominion
Zoe Saldaña in Colombiana (2011)
She’s just shot her way into Us cinemas with revenge thriller Colombiana (we get to see it over here on September 9), but Zoe Saldana is already looking to a future role. The actress is slipping on a producer’s hat for the firs time, setting up supernatural film Dominion at Paramount. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings have written the script pitch, about which very little is known. Zoe Saldana To Claim 'Dominion' At Paramount
Zoe Saldana is determined to be the action heroine of our age.  I'm not sure anyone is fighting that, but just in case, she's producing the next one at Paramount. A girl has to look out for herself, after all, or she gets stuck filming drippy romantic comedies.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saldana is set to star and produce "Dominion" alongside Robbie Brenner.  It was written and pitched by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings.  All involved remain tight-lipped on the plot, but Saldana will be playing a woman who is half human and half angel.   I may be making a leap into assuming it's a thriller of some kind, but past films have led me to believe that heavenly powers are rarely called upon for comedy, romance, or drama.  "Dominion" doesn't exactly have a friendly ring to it either.  I don't think we'll be seeing Saldana romance a mortal,...

Zoe Saldana to Pull Double Duty In Dominion
Oh, Zoe, with your beauty and on-screen presence, you never cease to impress us. You come across as a person who can do it all. Which is why we're not in the least bit surprised to hear you were going to produce as well as star in the upcoming project Dominion.

With her new film Colombiana hitting theaters this weekend, it's been announced that Saldana will team with Robbie Brenner (currently producing Machine Gun Preacher with Gerard Butler) to co-produce a supernatural thriller entitled Dominion, in which she will star as a half-human, half-angel. And looking at Zoe, we're sure this one will come easy to her.

Dominion was pitched by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, who recently wrote a thriller entitled You're My Angel, currently in production by 4 Horsemen Films, as well as a short entitled Fanboy, which features cameos by Sam Raimi and Jk Simmons.

More as it comes.

Zoe Saldana to Play a Half-Human, Half-Angel in Dominion
Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost may not be the only film about warring angels. The Hollywood Reporter states that Zoe Saldana has joined Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings’ Dominion. Paramount Pictures will be distributing. There are not enough details about the plot, but THR confirms that Saldana will be playing a character who is half-human, half angel.

Saldana, who appears in the widely-panned Columbiana, may need to spread her wings (pun intended, of course) to other projects that she may be more accustomed to. So far her sci-fi roles have put her on the map, but her more grounded roles have been missing their mark.

'Colombiana' Star to Show Her Softer Side in Next Movie
Zoe Saldana is ditching the guns and ammo to play a "half-human, half-angel" in her next film Dominion, THR reported earlier.  The lovely actress has also signed on to produce the project, which came from a pitch by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, who wrote an early draft of Machine Gun Preacher that didn't make the cut.  Hastings also co-wrote another script for a religious-esque film currently in development called You're My Angel.

Zoe Saldana is Half-Human/Half-Angel in Dominion
Zoe Saldana’s bad-ass action vehicle Colombiana is released in the U.S. this weekend (an incredibly rare female led guns & bullets thriller) but the actress is already setting up what could be a future leading role in a supernatural thriller at Paramount.

The Hollywood Reporter says Saldana will star and produce Dominion where she will play a half-human, half-angel! Absolutely no plot details have been granted so let your imagination run wild on this one.

Dominion was birthed as an idea from fairly rookie scribes Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings who wrote the in-production indie thriller You’re My Angel (yeah… they are obsessed) and also took an early shot at a draft for Gerard Butler’s actioner Machine Gun Preacher. In fact it was on that movie that McCreary and Hastings met this film’s producer Robbie Brenner and the film was officially pitched.

With such scant details...

It’s Zoe Saldana’s Dominion, We Just Live in It
Sure she’s an A-list movie star, but what Zoe Saldana really wants to do is produce. The “Star Trek” and “Avatar” star will get her chance with “Dominion”, a horror movie that Saldana has attached herself to as star and producer over at Paramount. Currently “Dominion” is just a pitch from Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, but it will star Saldana as a woman who happens to be half-human, half-angel. “Dominion” is being described as a “supernatural thriller”, so basically, a horror movie with action scenes. Probably something along the lines of “Legion”, and probably with the same type of end-of-the-world scenario since, well, if you’re already going to have angels and other supernatural creatures in your movie, mind as well put the fate of mankind at stake, am I right? Zoe Saldana, meanwhile, is currently shooting bad guys in “Colombiana”, which just opened wide today...

Zoe Saldana to produce and star in Dominion for Paramount
Zoe Saldana is bblowing up the theater this weekend with her new film Colombiana, but she has already found her next project. THR reports that she is set to produce and star in the supernatural thriller Dominion for Paramount. Not many plot details are known at this time, but the story centers "on a woman (Saldana) who is half-human, half-angel." The concept was pitched by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings. Saldana will produce alongside Robbie Brenner (Machine Gun Preacher).

Saldana is bet known for starring in Avatar and Star Trek, recently wrapped production on The Words, a drama with Bradley Cooper. She also is attached to star opposite Mark Ruffalo in Infinitely Polar Bear, an indie drama that is being produced by J.J. Abrams.

This sounds like an interesting concept. Saldana is good in action films so she will be fine in this thriller. What are your thoughts on this casting news?...

Alex Proyas
Zoe Saldana to Play Angelic Action in ‘Dominion’
Alex Proyas
Briefly: Not a lot of details on this one just yet, but it looks like Alex Proyas isn't the only one getting into the 'action movie with angels' game. Zoe Saldana has closed a deal to produce and star in a film called Dominion. It's a Paramount picture, based on a pitch by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings. We don't know the plot outright, but in announcing the film THR [1] says Saldana will play a woman "who is half-human, half-angel." It's a good move for Salanda on the eve of the opening of action movie Colombiana, which is getting pans across the board. Since her mid-sized Star Trek appearance and much larger Avatar role, she's been able to do better material, but there are still a good few shrug-worthy films on her recent resume. Will Dominion be different? At this point it is impossible to tell, but stepping in as...

Zoe Saldana Will Play a Half-Human, Half-Angel in Thriller 'Dominion'
Obviously well-timed with the release of her new action movie Colombiana this weekend, THR is reporting that Paramount has set up a supernatural thriller called Dominion starring badass-hottie Zoe Saldana. There is no director yet, but the pitch is from writers Dean McCreary & Chester Hastings. It apparently has something to do with a woman, to be played by Saldana, who is half-human, half-angel. Not much more is known beyond that, but the project is being produced by Saldana, as well as Robbie Brenner, of A Perfect Getaway and Machine Gun Preacher. This seems like a rather interesting project to watch out for. Read on! R. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, the two writers behind Dominion, which is an intriguing title in and of itself (in relation to the half-angel story), are also credited for the script on a thriller called You're My Angel, currently in the works at 4 Horsemen ...

Zoe Saldana To Be Half-Angel In Dominion
This week Zoe Saldana is hitting theaters in Luc Besson written/produced Colombiana. While Saldana isn't a novice in the action film genre - both Avatar and The Losers had the actress doing some pretty sweet moves, her newest does a pretty substantial job raising her career body count. Now, according to THR, she's signed on to a project called Dominion, but judging by her character description she probably won't be killing anybody. While story details about the project are slim, Saldana will be playing a character that is "half-human, half-angel" (we can only pray that its better than the cinematic abortion known as Passion Play, in which Megan Fox played someone with a similar description). Saldana has also signed on to produce the project. The movie is based on a pitch by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, who seem to have a thing for partially-religious stories as the pair...

Zoe Saldana Gets Heavenly For 'Dominion'
Zoe Saldana will soon be spreading her wings.

Somewhat literally, actually, as the "Avatar" star will be playing a half-human, half-angel in the supernatural thriller, "Dominion," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount bought the "Dominion" pitch from screenwriters Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, who are somewhat familiar with the whole "angel" theme, having written "You're My Angel," another thriller that's currently in development.

The writing duo also penned "Fanboy," a short film about a video store clerk who's the self-proclaimed biggest Sam Raimi fan on the planet. J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson in Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies, and Raimi himself make appearances.

Um... and where can we see this short film?

Zoe Saldana will also be co-producing "Dominion," which is probably still a ways off from an official start date, pending the actual writing of the script.

Zoe Saldana To Star In and Produce Thriller ‘Dominion’
The past two years or so have seen Zoe Saldana vault to the top of female action stars list. With Star Trek, Avatar, The Losers, and this week’s Colombiana, she not only seems to have a proclivity for the genre, but it’s also helping her career really take off. She’ll be going outside of that territory for a moment, however, as THR informs us that she’s starring in and producing a new thriller, titled Dominion.

Based on an idea pitched by Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings, the plot is said to follow “a woman (Saldana) who is half-human, half-angel”; other than that, not much else is known. The duo co-wrote a similar thriller, titled You’re My Angel, but I doubt that this will be too similar. (At least, I hope they don’t take such an easy route.) Producing will be Robbie Brenner, one of...

Zoe Saldana Enters Supernatural 'Dominion'

Is Zoe Saldana going to be one of those talented actresses who gets roles that are below her level until her once budding career is wasted away in one genre film after another? These may seem like harsh words, but after Saldana's great turn in 'Avatar,' we were looking for her to get much more challenging roles. Instead, she's been under-used in 'The Losers,' 'Takers' and this weekend's 'Colombiana' ('Colombiana' has been drubbed by the critics -- getting a 33 percent rating at Rotten Tomatoes, but the reviewers love the actress).

So pardon us if we don't applaud the news (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Saldana has set up the supernatural thriller 'Dominion' -- about a woman (Saldana) who is half-human, half-angel -- at Paramount. Saldana will also produce. Right now the project is in pitch form from Dean McCreary...

Zoe Saldana Is Half-Human, Half-Angel In Supernatural Thriller 'Dominion'
Zoe Saldaña
We'll say this about Zoe Saldana--she is just not getting the kinds of pictures she deserves. She's the rare breed of actress who can more than handle her own in genre fare and she's been underserved for the most part, with thankless roles in "The Losers," "Takers" and this weekend's "Colombiana." But she continues to push forward, but man, we wish we could be more excited about this project. Saldana will put on her producer hat and star in "Dominion," a supernatural thriller which centers on a woman who is half-human, half-angel. Sigh. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings came up…...

Zoe Saldana Set to Play a Half-Human, Half-Angel in Dominion
The upcoming supernatural thriller currently being developed at Paramount Pictures will have the Star Trek and Avatar actress playing double duty as star and producer. Details about Dominion are sparse, though it is already known that the film is unter the tutelage of Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings and centers on a woman (Saldana) who is half-human, half-angel. Robbie Brenner, who is currently working on Relativity Media's Machine Gun Preacher, will be producing alongside Saldana. The in-demand actress made a name for herself as Neytiri in the James Cameron's billion-dollar sci-fi adventure Avatar and Uhura in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek relaunch. Saldana can next be seen in theaters in the action-thriller Colombiana, and will begin working on Dominion later this year.

Hutchence Back To Life
  • Quick Links > Slide Away > Nick Egan official site > Michael Hutchence The rumors have been confirmed and fans of Aussie rockers Inxs can finally get another taste of the former front man and longhaired heartthrob Michael Hutchence. The lead singer, who recorded 12 albums with the group until his death in 1997, was said to be the spirit of Inxs – a position that cannot be replaced (although they tried with the CBS reality TV talent search “Rock Star: INXS”). It is that spirit that director Nick Egan will attempt to capture in his biopic on the star, currently titled Slide Away after a posthumous duet that paired Hutchence with U2's Bono. Egan, a personal friend of Hutchence and director of many of the band’s music videos, was originally hesitant to take on the project. Producer Clark Westerman (Pretty, Baby, Machine/I, Lucifer) convinced Egan after five years of deliberation saying,
