Exclusive: We have the finalists for the 2024 Latine List.

The partnership between the Latin Tracking Board, Nalip and The Black List have selected 10 projects that represent some of the best rising talents in Latin-e/a/o/@ storytelling in film, TV and theater.

Following the List’s core mandate, this year’s selected scripts probe the scope and depth of genres and voices — past and present.

“This collection shines a spotlight on Latine characters, settings and narratives that capture the intriguing complexities of our culture,” the Latin Tracking Board said today. “Each script offers a unique perspective, celebrating the originality and richness of Latine experiences.”

In fact, several writers on this year’s Latine List have received pervious industry praise and recognition for their work.

We’ve gone through Covid, we’ve weathered the strikes, we continue to have the pleasure of surviving the consolidation and financialization of our industry. No one said working in TV was easy.

But like a lighthouse on a dark stormy night, there is a beacon of stability and guidance. The Film Independent Episodic Lab is once again here with a two week in-person program with personalized feedback from experienced showrunners, workshops and pitch events, to help push these writer’s projects over the line.

Past Episodic Lab Fellows include April Shih, who has written on FX’s Fargo, Dave and struck an overall deal at FX Productions; Kimi Lee, who wrote on Amazon’s Expats, Apple’s The Morning Show, and sold her show $ugar in a four-way bidding war to Hulu; Henry “Hank” Jones, who has written on ABC’s Will Trent and Apple’s Truth Be Told.

Wrapping up our conversations with fellows from the 2024 Sundance Screenwriters Lab, we met with a filmmaker who promptly reminded us that there is no singular path from point A to … the day a feature gets its first clapperboard slap. Take, for instance, Christian Moldes, a filmmaker who has worn acting, writing, directing, and editing who revisited a proposed project that was conceived during a different era and political climate reality. A buddy comedy, Quince Kings looks to merge hot topics about the El Paso, Texas border, immigration, with a look at friendship and some of the quirks of quinceañeras.…...

Sixteen fellows with a dozen projects will be headed to the mythic bunk beds and cabin life of Utah just prior to the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. Here their words on paper will be tested, tried and nurtured with valuable input from the likes of Michelle Satter, Ilyse McKimmie, Jessie Nelson and creative advisors Ritesh Batra, Linda Yvette Chávez, Scott Frank, Phil Hay, Marielle Heller, Walter Mosley, Nicole Perlman, Kemp Powers, Dee Rees, Howard Rodman, Dana Stevens, Joan Tewkesbury, Bill Wheeler, Tyger Williams, Virgil Williams, and Doug Wright.
