While most indie horror films are interested in getting you as much "bang for the buck" as humanly possible, there are always a few filmmakers out there who insist on using the horror genre as a vehicle for plain, simple, and sometimes painfully "relatable" stories about the frank difficulties of normal life. (Check out films like Marianne, Absentia, or Citadel for a few great examples.) Simply put: we're all afraid of sharks, stalkers, and monsters; that's the easy stuff. So kudos to the independent filmmakers who make horror films and suspense thrillers about "normal" fears like loss, regret, betrayal, and isolation.

Separation is a twisted piece of filmmaking that will have you questioning just you're watching right up until the final moments. It's a skillfully constructed indie that hits VOD this Monday, April 15th, and in honor of its release, we have a new clip for you.

Written and directed by Greg White, Separation (review here) stars Peter Stebbings and Sarah Manninen as a couple struggling to keep their crumbling marriage alive in a town that suddenly finds itself terrorized by a serial killer.

Dropping straight down from our neighbors to the North, the Canadian independent feature Separation brings us the story of a couple initially struggling to save their marriage, then struggling to save their lives. (There's the quote for the back of your DVD, guys!)

The trailer for Separation (featured below) has a Straw Dogs feel to it. The film stars Sarah Manninen (Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story) and Peter Stebbings (The Listener) with Dmitry Chepovetsky (ReGenesis), Rob deLeeuw (The Business) and Al Sapienza (Margin Call). Separation was written and directed by Greg White and produced in Ontario under the Actra Tip Program by Birchmount Entertainment Inc.
