There’s a certain texture to the action films I grew up with, a gritty, straight-to-video-store honesty that modern blockbusters often polish away. Stand Your Ground feels like a direct dispatch from that era. It’s a straight-faced revenge story that knows exactly what it wants to be: a bruising, unapologetic spectacle of violence.

The film introduces us to Jack Johnson, a former special forces operative who is less a character and a force of nature. He is a man seeking a peaceful life after a career of conflict, only to have that peace violently torn from him.

The film doesn’t waste a single frame on pretense; its language is gunpowder and its punctuation is the impact of a fist. It promises a raw, cathartic journey down a path paved with broken bodies and righteous fury.

Exclusive: Action thriller Stand Your Ground has been picked up in the U.S. by Epic Pictures.

The deal was locked ahead of the upcoming American Film Market.

Sales outfit Iuvit Media, which brokered the deal, has also sold the flick to Tiberius Film for German-speaking territories, MediaSquad for Poland and Front Row for Mena territories. Iuvit Media will continue to sell rights at AFM.

Directed by Fansu Njie (Last Man Down) and written by Craig Walser (Rambo Last Blood) the film is centered on an ex-seal in a small american town, who uses the stand-your-ground law to take revenge for his family’s murder.

"Kill him and get the girl!" Saban Films has released an official trailer for an action thriller titled Last Man Down, the second feature made by Swedish filmmaker Fansu Njie. It opens direct-to-vod starting in October, and this really does look like direct-to-video quality. Daniel Stisen stars as John Wood, who left the pieces of a broken civilization behind after a virus pandemic, to go back to his roots in the woodlands. Years later a wounded woman appears on his doorstep, claiming to have escaped from a lab because they believe her blood is the key to a worldwide cure. The film also stars Olga Kent, Daniel Nehme, Stanislav Yanevski, Madeleine Vall, and Natassia Malthe. Scandinavian action film Last Man Down has scored up a number of international sales for Fabrication Films ahead of the Cannes Virtual Market, including a domestic deal.

The film — starring newcomer Daniel Stisen, alongside Olga Kent, Daniel Nehme and Madeleine Vall — was picked up by Saban Films for North America and, via Saban’s partnership with Altitude Media Group, also for the the U.K. Elsewhere it was taken for the Middle East (Phoenicia Pictures), Korea (Danal Entertainment), Poland (Media Squad), Japan (Pflug) and Spain (YouPlanet Pictures).
