Insomniac Games’ New IP Is An Underwater Metroidvania Named Song Of The Deep
Following up on yesterday’s nebulous teaser, Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games has pulled back the curtain on Song of the Deep, a brand new IP headed to PS4, Xbox One and PC in summer 2016.

Priced at $14.99 across all platforms, perhaps the most surprising element of Insomniac’s announcement is that the metroidvania-styled adventure will be published by GameStop in what has been described as a “non-traditional developer-publisher relationship.” As such, with the high-street retailer handling marketing and distribution for the game, physical copies of Song of the Deep will only be available via GameStop.

Centering on the story of Merryn, Insomniac’s experimental release is the passion project hatched by Chief Creative Officer, Brian Hastings. In light of the announcement, Hastings offered a brief statement about the new IP, which has been incubating in development for around a year’s time.

“Throughout development we’ve tried to create moments of awe-inducing wonder.

Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, more: Forrest Gump stars then & now
Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump (1994)
Tom Hanks recently enjoyed a reunion with two of his Forrest Gump co-stars, Gary Sinise and Mykelti Williamson.

The actor posted a picture of himself with Sinise and Williamson, who played Lieutenant Dan and Bubba respectively in the 1994 movie, on his Twitter.

"Hadn't seen these old friends for too long," he tweeted along with the photo.

As the classic heartfelt movie approaches its 20th anniversary, we take a look back at what the main stars of the drama have gone on to accomplish since.

Tom Hanks

Hanks gave a heartbreaking and poignant Academy Award-winning performance as the endearing Forrest Gump in Robert Zemeckis's drama.

The 57-year-old actor reunited with the film's director for the critically acclaimed Cast Away in 2000 and again for 2004's animated The Polar Express.

Hanks has since appeared in a long list of successful movies including Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile and The Da Vinci Code,...

5 Reasons Why You Should Play The Ratchet & Clank Series
For those who have not yet played the R&C series, allow me to offer you my 5 personal reasons as to why I think the franchise should belong in your PlayStation catalogue. It’s been 11 years since its first official release back in 2002, and there is no sign of the duo retiring anytime soon.

Brian Hastings of Insomniac Games played a major role in submitting the concept, a futuristic premise about a reptilian alien travelling from planet to planet, collecting weapons and gadgets.

With heavy tinkering on the development, Ratchet became a furry tailed, cat-like creature because he was too close to resembling Insomniac’s previous title, Spyro the Dragon. During production, the developers embarked on creating a sidekick to aid Ratchet on his epic adventures; an intelligent robot known as Clank.

The concept became an instant hit with gamers and developers alike; in total an astonishing 12 games have been produced across 3 PlayStation platforms,...

24 Plot Devices They Keep Recycling On '24' Over And Over
I absolutely adore 24 and as a die-hard fan I think it's a brilliant show. It not only revolutionized television with its real-time format, but has been consistently entertaining since day one. Kiefer Sutherland was already somewhat of a star when the series premiered, but he became a household name synonymous with his character Jack Bauer, a hard as nails government agent out to protect the innocent and seek justice at the cost of his own life. I'm just as sorry as any fan to see the show go after eight seasons, but I'm also relieved. 24 has grown more than a little tired over the years, with story-lines and plot devices that have become incredibly familiar. That's because much of what we see has occurred before and every story line, plot thread or turn of events feels directly copied from previous seasons. Jack and his colleagues not only find themselves in the same situations,...

Fox Cancels 24. Next Stop for Jack Bauer is Movie Screens
According to director Jon Cassar (via his twitter feed), Fox has officially cancelled 24 and there will be no season 9. While the rumblings of 24 ending have been online for the last few months, we previously reported NBC had expressed interest in keeping Jack Bauer on the air. But that seems to be not happening.

But all is not lost for 24 fans, as back in February we reported Twentieth Century Fox had hired Billy Ray (State of Play, Breach, Shattered Glass) to write the script for a feature version of the show. The premise is Jack Bauer would go to Europe. And when I spoke to Kiefer Sutherland awhile back, he told me the movie “would lose the real time aspect, which would be a huge freedom for the writers.” He went on to say the film “would be a two hour representation of a twenty-four hour day.”

So what does this all mean?...

24 Has Come to an End!
24 has come to end In a joint decision made by 24's star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon, Twentieth Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment and Fox Broadcasting Company, it was determined that the acclaimed series will end its remarkable eight-season run. Jack Bauer's last day on Fox will conclude when the final two hours of "Day Eight" air Monday, May 24 (8:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt). As the countdown to the series' climactic conclusion races on, the final 11 hours will air uninterrupted Mondays (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.

Multiple award-winning series star Kiefer Sutherland reflected on the show's run: "This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so...

'24' Fan Columnist: Families and Other Enemies
Renee is back in with the Russian mob, but Jack knows a crispy critter when he sees one and calls Brian Hastings to demand that she be pulled out Now. Following the grand tradition of 24-Characters-Who-Ignore-Jack-At-Their-Peril, Hastings brushes him off. When Bauer argues there are other ways to make Vlad talk, Hastings retorts that they don't do that anymore. No siree bob, not when they have The Full Biometrics Package in their bag of tricks.

In another corner of CTU, Dana runs across info on $120K in drug money being stored in an evidence warehouse. Since this meets the stringent six-figure criteria established by sleazy ex Kevin, she calls with details and asks him to meet her to pick up a key card she's forging. Maybe Dana goes along with him because she finds it a pleasant distraction compared to Arlo's never-ending supply of sleazy come-ons. The Chloe we know...

"24" Recap: Day 8: 4:00 Pm - 6:00 Pm
4:00 Pm - 5:00 Pm

Ah blinky clock noise, how I've missed you. And thank you for that real-time note for the new people. New people are always so dumb and slow, they couldn't possibly make sense out of the hours passing one by one.

NYC makes its 24 setting debut with a creepy guy in a hoodie, aka shooting target. Never wear hoodies, people, they only identify you as a creepy bad guy. Also, drug houses are not safe. Welcome to New York! Hoodie guy walks up to an apartment and discovers his predictably dead friend in the shower, although I was expecting a chainsaw victim, so kudos on that tricky move. Hoodie creep immediately telephones the requisite scared chick who says "What the hell is happening?" over another dead guy at her end. Could it be ... some sort of plot? A shooter aims at hoodie guy again; it's the wrong one though,...

24 Musings and More: 6:00 Pm - 8:00 Pm
Don't get us wrong: we love 24.

Kiefer Sutherland is always great as Jack Bauer and it's impossible to not get caught up in the ticking clock, multiple split screens and overall production of the show.

Still, it's clearly not as suspenseful as it used to be, considering the repetitive plots (there's a mole at CTU?!? An informant is killed before he can open up?!?) and need to suspend such disbelief each week.

Every week, my friends and I exchange a series of post-episode emails for our amusement. These point out plot inconsistencies in (hopefully) humorous ways. Following last week's two-hour installment, I'm excited to present a few below. We encourage readers to chime in with their own 24 musings...

"Dana Walsh" gets a call that she has "a visitor." At CTU? Why not a Girl Scout selling cookies? Or a phony Census taker? Who can't just come knocking at the CTU bunker door?...

24 Round Table: Eighth Season Premiere
The first two hours of 24 have come and gone.

On some ways, a lot has changed: CTU is based on New York and Jack is now killing people with an axe. In others, it's exactly the same: Jack has chosen country over family and is running a rogue-like operation with only Chloe on ops.

What did you think of the eighth season premiere? As we do for so many shows, the TV Fanatic staff has gathered to analyze various 24 developments. Reader feedback is always encouraged...

Give Kim a grade.

M.L. House: A. She didn't get caught in a single animal trap. Amazing.

Dr. Shepherd: B Minus. She offered mature advice and looked really good. I'd have given her a much higher grade... but she's still Kim Bauer.

The Barnacle: D. For the inevitable guilt trip she'll give her father and for whatever way she's bound to get in the way as the season progresses.

Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
'24' recap: Jack gets pulled back in, and so do we
Kiefer Sutherland at an event for 24 (2001)
When each new season of 24 commences, I immediately find myself focusing on two things: how marvelous Kiefer Sutherland still looks while playing TV's No. 1 action star, and whether he actually takes the time to tape a fresh version of "events occur in real time" before each season begins. Someday, we intrepid reporter-types will have to take the time to ask him while we're in the midst of inquiring about future seasons of Fox's most-anticipated midseason drama (a popular topic for the nation's TV critics at press tour this month). Until then, please follow along with our handy dandy recaps, coming...

'24': Katee Sackhoff, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Freddy Prinze Jr. talk Season 8
Katee Sackhoff
Coming off of a DC-set season that even naysayers agree was much, much better than Season 6 (aka "The Season with Mushroom Cloud, the Evil Grandpa, and Rick Schroder"), 24 has moved its base of operations to New York for the eighth season. To reflect the show's new setting, billboards across America are proclaiming: "New York Gets Jacked." I don't know what that means, but I like it. (Check out Ken Tucker's take on the new season here.) The show hosted a red carpet premiere in New York last week and EW.com was there to chat with Kiefer Sutherland ask vital questions to the supporting cast.

'24': Mary Lynn Rajskub says Chloe wants to kill Katee Sackhoff's character
"24"'s Chloe -- like the lovely lady who plays her, Ms. Mary Lynn Rajskub -- has a lot going on, being a working woman with a baby at home and all.

She's back at CTU -- the new and improved New York office -- this season, but she's not quite familiar with all the latest technologies and such.

Seems that while she was off being a mommy, things changed a bit and she's got some catching up to do.

"Katee Sackhoff's character Dana Walsh tries to comfort me, like 'It's okay, you'll catch up,' and I just want to kill her," Mary Lynn explains in the clip below. "I have to win over my bosses, which eventually I will, with my know-how."

But will there be some cat fighting at CTU?

No, dude. Chloe's better than that. Sounds as though Dana's just going to annoy her... though there's...

'24's' Mykelti Williamson: Jack Bauer's different this year
There's a new sheriff at CTU, my friends, and you're about to get acquainted with him.

"24" busts back into our living rooms with a brand new season this Sunday (Jan. 17) and the man now running the show is Mr. Brian Hastings.

Mykelti Williamson, who plays Hastings, says his character is a hard nut to crack and a total control freak.

In fact, as you'll see in the clip below, Hastings' compulsion to control manifests itself in the design of the new CTU Headquarters... easily the coolest CTU set we've seen to date.

What else should you know about Hastings?

Well, he and Jack are not friends. But Williamson says Brian Hastings has a reason for butting heads with Jack and insists that the audience, too, will be questioning Mr. Bauer this season: "[Hastings] is pretty aggressive and he and the Jack Bauer character don't really see eye-to-eye. They don't really like each other,...

Kiefer Sutherland Dishes on '24's' Eighth Season
It's the device that keeps on giving, long after the gig should have been up: the adrenalin-infested ticking clock where danger lurks around every corner, allies are actually enemies, and every nutwhack with a pipe bomb and a cause wants to ruin Jack Bauer's day…all punctuated every so often by Kiefer Sutherland, aka Bauer, determinedly yelling "We're running out of time!"

It's one of those remarkable facts of television that this show didn't run out of time years ago (to read my review of 24's first season on DVD — back when I thought this show was the best nail-biter ever to hit the airwaves — click here). After the first season, the second at most, the gimmick was up. You can only have so many terrorists with bio-weapons/nukes/assassination squads threatening America so many times before the device gets tired. And yet, here we are entering our eighth season.

Mykelti Williamson Speaks on 24 Role
The location of CTU isn't the only thing that's changed when 24 premieres its eighth season on January 17.

The terrorist-fighting organization has also found a new boss: Brian Hastings, played by Mykelti Williamson. The actor, still best known for his role as Forest Gump's Bff, spoke to TV Addict this week about his character on the Fox drama...

On Hastings: “He’s an a**hole! Well, at least for a while, but then he’ll surprise the audience by doing something redeeming so he can be an a**hole again later on.”

On the character's future: "Should Hastings be eliminated at some point before the season is over, then I know they [the writers] have done what’s best. These people in the midst of this process know exactly what they’re doing and to second guess them is foolish. I’m just happy to roll with the punches as long as it works for the show.

Gregory Itzin Returns to 24
The anticipation for Season Eight of 24 continues to surge with Gregory Itzin reprising his acclaimed role as Charles Logan. The Emmy Award-winning drama starring Kiefer Sutherland returns for its next astonishing day with a two-night, four-hour premiere event Sunday, Jan. 17 (9:00-11:00 Pm Et/Pt) and Monday, Jan. 18 (8:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.

The disgraced former President Logan was last seen after being shockingly stabbed by First Lady Martha Logan (Jean Smart) in Season Six. Itzin's return to 24 will bring together the series' two Emmy-nominated "presidents" for the first time when sitting President Allison Taylor (Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones) reluctantly enlists Logan to assist with an escalating international diplomatic crisis.

When asked about this on-screen pairing, 24 executive producer Howard Gordon said, "The opportunity for these two remarkable actors to share the stage was simply too compelling to pass up."

'24' Season 8 Teaser Trailer
The teaser trailer for the new, and possibly final, season of Fox's 24 has surfaced online, and it kicks off with a clear period of time having passed since last season (remember, when Jack Bauer was dying?) and Jack wanting nothing more than to spend time with both his daughter and granddaughter. You can check out the teaser using the player below.

Funny how Jack never gets the quiet life he allegedly wants, isn't it? Before you know it, he's contacted by someone urgently pleading for his help (yep, yep) to stop an assassination plot at the Un which is going to take place that same day (of course, this is 24, after all).

It was an assassination plot that launched the series' inaugural season, and it seems the producers are going back to basics and coming full circle again this year.

While season seven was definitely an improvement on the previous two years,...
