The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 5, Episode 6, "Of Gods and Angles" now streaming on Paramount+.
The back half of the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is underway, and "Of Gods and Angles" continues the episodic, hilarious storytelling this series is known for. While the episode makes good use of the entire cast, the focus is on the continued growth of Beckett Mariner and Bradward Boiimler as Starfleet officers and people, though one of them is regressing. Also, the Greek Gods are real.
Throughout most of the series' fifth season, Lower Decks has been hinting at a larger Star Trek mystery with intentionally made dimensional rifts opening up in space. Neither "Of Gods and Angles" nor the crew's excursion to Starbase 80 mentioned these rifts. All this means is that rather than an epic, serialized final outing for the USS Cerritos, the storytellers are more focused...

Mary Chieffo brings a whole new style of Klingon in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5. Chieffo originally portrayed L'Rell, who became Chancellor of the Klingon Empire, in Star Trek: Discovery's first two seasons.
In Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, the USS Cerritos investigates rifts in space that lead to alternate Star Trek timelines. One such breach in space brought Lieutenants Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid) to the Klingon home world in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 4, "A Farewell to Farms." Mariner met up with her old friend Ma'ah (Jon Curry), who was tempted by a lusty Klingon woman named K'Elarra (Mary Chieffo).

The following reveals major spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5, Episode 5, "Starbase 80?" now streaming on Paramount+.
Star Trek: Lower Decks has always found humor in the grungier side of the final frontier. The central joke surrounding the U.S.S. Cerritos is that it gets all the dull, maintenance-intensive assignments while all of Star Trek's other crews are exploring strange new worlds and saving the galaxy with their derring-do. The Cerritos has its share of similar heroics, of course, but they usually come as a part of some decidedly non-glamorous assignment in a forgotten corner of the Star Trek franchise.
That includes a recurring gag that finally comes full circle in Season 5, Episode 5, "Starbase 80?" The titular space station is spoken of in hushed whispers among Starfleet personnel, an outdated garbage heap crewed by the biggest fools the Federation can produce. It's appeared several times on the series before,...

After playing L'Rell on Star Trek: Discovery, actor Mary Chieffo portrays a very different kind of Klingon in Star Trek: Lower Decks. The Klingon Empire and the intricacies of its culture are highlighted in Season 5, Episode 4, "A Farewell to Farms," with brothers Ma'ah and Malor looking to restore their family honor and ditch the agricultural life they've been relegated to on the Klingon homeworld. Joining in on the fun is the Klingon warrior K'Elarra, played by Chieffo, who approaches Ma'ah as he contemplates regaining his captaincy in the Klingon armada.
In an interview with Cbr, Mary Chieffo compares her Klingon role on Discovery to her character on Lower Decks. She also discusses leaning in to the humor and tone of the animated series. Plus, how does she feel about having not one, but two parts in Star Trek franchise history?

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5, Episode 4 - "A Farewell To Farms"
Star Trek: Discovery's season one didn't earn any points with fans when it debuted its reconstructed Klingons that looked nothing like the ones we were used to seeing. And even though Mary Chieffo, who portrayed L'Rell, on Discovery said the Klingons belonged to a different, ancient sect, fans just weren't buying it because the Klingons looked like completely different aliens. Fortunately, they didn't hang around past season two, and we haven't seen them since. And it looks like it might stay that way.
In the Star Trek: Lower Decks' season five episode, "A Farewell to Arms," Chieffo returns as the Klingon K'Elarra, and the animated Klingon is as close to a Star Trek: The Next Generation Klingon as could be. [via Screenrant] Even the Klingons that Starfleet fought in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are the familiar ones we remember.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has the chance to address the disappearance of Klingons in Star Trek: Discovery's 32nd century. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy can provide an in-universe explanation for the changes to Klingon appearances in Star Trek: Discovery. Star Trek: Discovery avoided focusing on Klingons in season 3 to move forward with new stories in a new era. The next Star Trek series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, can finally explain the variant Klingons in Star Trek: Discovery. Star Trek: Discovery's bold redesign of Klingons sparked controversy but added depth to the warrior race's history and culture. Mary Chieffo, who played L'Rell, delves into the backstory of the Klingons, including their language and societal structure. Chieffo's D-Con Chamber podcast interview reveals the thought process behind creating a unique version of Klingons for Discovery.
Mary Chieffo, who played Chancellor L'Rell, explains why Star Trek: Discovery's controversial Klingons were different from the prior iterations of the warrior race. Star Trek: Discovery's Klingons were widely disliked during seasons 1 and 2, as the prequel reinvented the Klingons' design to be bald, more alien, and animalistic, setting the stage for the Klingon War with the United Federation of Planets. By Star Trek: Discovery season 2, L'Rell had risen to become the Klingon Chancellor, and Discovery began slowly shifting the Klingons' look toward the more popular 24th-century design.

Kenneth Mitchell's diverse roles in Star Trek showcased his talent and dedication despite battling Als. Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 1 - "The Broken Circle"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is taking a different approach to the Klingons than its canonical predecessor, Star Trek: Discovery, but bringing in that show’s Klingon leader, Chancellor L’Rell (Mary Chieffo), would be a smart move. Discovery returned Star Trek to the small screen after a twelve-year absence, but its first season was incredibly polarizing. Perhaps its most controversial move was its radical reinvention of the Klingons, which featured an unexplained redesign of the species' physical appearance - suddenly hairless with exaggerated facial features - and a shift in their basic motivations.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 1 - "The Broken Circle"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's premiere finally provides a sequel to Star Trek: Discovery season 1's Klingon War that shows the aftermath of that devastating galactic conflict. In Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 1, "The Broken Circle," Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) steals the USS Enterprise and leads it into disputed Klingon space to answer a distress call from LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong). The Starship Enterprise's crew uncovers a conspiracy by a war-profiteering syndicate to re-ignite the Klingon War and stops it. But Strange New Worlds also shows the cost of the Klingon War in ways Star Trek: Discovery did not.
The Klingon War was the central storyline of Star Trek: Discovery season 1. The Klingons, led by their self-styled Messiah, T'Kuvma (Chris Obi), sought to assert their warrior identity by subjugating the United Federation of Planets.

The makers of To The Journey: Looking Back on Star Trek: Voyager just shared their clip showing several Star Trek alumni, including George Takei, Mary Chieffo, Armin Shimmerman, Jeffrey Combs, Andrew Robinson, and Voyager stars Robert Beltran and Tim Russ as well, sitting in a decidedly space-agey chair for interviews. The reunion, as you can see, is a joyous one, as the interviewees clap along with the crew as they reunite to discuss the legacy of Star Trek.
The crowdfunded documentary from the makers of What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine launched on Indiegogo earlier this year becoming the most successful crowdfunded documentary film ever. The record-setting sum and the campaign will allow the filmmakers to remaster Star Trek: Voyager footage in high definition and include "an exclusive, never-before-seen Voyager surprise."

The third season of Star Trek: Discovery was many things, including a trip into an uncharted future that released the series from concerns about pesky things like existing franchise canon and a soft reboot that allowed a show that had often struggled to determine its identity to find its voice at last. It was also the first Discovery season that didn’t feature one particular Star Trek staple: The Klingon race. Are those things connected to one another? Signs definitely point to yes.
To be fair, few fans were probably that surprised by this particular narrative. The Klingons are essentially Discovery’s white whale, the one part of the show’s universe that it can never quite get right and whose appeal it can never capture, no matter how it tries or what twists it pulls. Virtually every subplot involving Klingon characters has been nothing short of a disaster, whether...

Kadin dropped the big reveal at the start of the session, announcing the title of Star Trek's newest member, a brand-new animated show called Star Trek: Prodigy, created in partnership with Nickelodeon and aimed at a younger audience.

The USS Discovery may have left the 23rd century behind, but there’s still a lot more left to explore in the pre-tos era.
When it first aired in 2017, Star Trek: Discovery was a prequel to the original Trek, but now that the third season of the show will take place roughly 930 years after 2267 — likely in the year 3197 — the eight years remaining between Star Trek: The Original Series and Discovery will mostly have to be filled in by our imaginations. Unless of course, there were new spin-offs!
This week, news broke that two companies which hold rights to film Star Trek — CBS and Viacom — have completed a corporate merger which puts the entire Trek franchise under one roof again. This was how it was in the ‘80s and ‘90s when Paramount owned everything, but, since 2006, things Trek movies and Trek shows have been split up.

Fans of the series Star Trek: Discovery will be happy to learn that CBS All Access has officially renewed it for a third season!
I’m still slowly making my way through Season 2, but I’m really happy with how the creative team has been handling this show. It’s not really a surprise that we will be getting a third season. While the streaming service has plans for lots of new Star Trek shows, this is their flagship series and I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
It’s also being reported that series co-executive producer and writer Michelle Paradise has been tapped to serve as co-showrunner alongside Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman is overseeing the entire expansion of the Star Trek universe, so it makes sense that he’d need some help. Kurtzman had this to say in a statement:

“Star Trek: Discovery” has been renewed for a third season at CBS All Access.
The announcement comes after the series has aired just six episodes of its second season. In addition, Variety has learned that series co-executive producer and writer Michelle Paradise has been tapped to serve as co-showrunner alongside Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman will still continue to oversee the expansion of the growing “Star Trek” universe under his deal with CBS Television Studios.

Discovery delivers on its promise of optimistic science fiction storytelling when the ship encounters an ancient, spherical being.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, Episode 4
One of the refreshing things about watching/covering Star Trek: Discovery is that you literally never know what show you are going to get week to week. Will it be a Klingon soap opera, an attempt to fill in canonical spaces that nobody ever asked about, or perhaps a fond return to one of the franchise's classic formulas? (Note: This narrative mania is also one of the most frustrating things about watching/covering Star Trek: Discovery.)
This week, Discovery fell into the final, aforementioned category, where it has arguably found the most success.

In anticipation of the second series we caught up with cast members Sonequa Martin-Green, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, Mary Wiseman and Doug Jones along with producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin to talk about the second series of Star Trek Discovery and what we can look forward to expecting when it returns to CBS and Netflix in 2019.
The interviews are conducted by the wonderful James Kleinmann who finds out, among other things, what we can expect when Spock joins the series.
Sonequa Martin-Green discusses how the evolution which began in the first series continues and the discoveries keep on happening – with the characters focusing on logic dictates the humanity of the new season. Her redemptive journey also continues along with the Vulcan indoctrination. She talks about knowing about her relationship with Spock from the very beginning, and...

We’ve got a great new featurette for you to watch today for Star Trek: Discovery that focuses on what we can expect to see in the story for season two. It includes new footage from the upcoming season along with interviews of the cast and crew talking about some of the new characters that will be joining the adventure such as Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck), who is apparently having visions of a villainous Red Angel.
I also included a synopsis for the upcoming season along with a new poster:
After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, season two of Star Trek: Discoveryfinds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must...

It looks like the crew of the Discovery have their work cut out for them as they embark on what looks to be a dangerously insane new adventure! This is a great, action-packed trailer that definitely upped my excitement for the return of the series!

Midway through the just-released trailer for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery there’s a moment when the grim-faced Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif) informs Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) that the future of the universe is in peril.
Underwhelmed, Pike replies with a nonchalant smirk. “Mr. Tyler,” Pike says, “we are always in a fight for the future.”
Pike meant Starfleet but his appraisal applies just as much to big-budget television enterprises such as Star Trek: Discovery, which launches its sophomore season January 17 on CBS All Access. Star Trek: Discovery is the flagship brand for the subscription streaming site and while it performed admirably in its inaugural season (with favorable reviews and subscription spikes) there was also major upheaval among the creative team that raised questions about its future as an ongoing mission.
The new trailer shows the 14-episode Season 2 won’t be skimping much on special effects or a sense of scale.

Star Trek spoiler alert: Season two of Discovery looks just as gorgeous as the first season. There's new key art and the new trailer for season two of Star Trek: Discovery, below, features stunning graphics, your favorite Mirror-verse character, Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), a new threat and…Spock! And it looks like it's not a great family reunion for Spock (Ethan Peck) and his adopted sister Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). "I risked everything to help you," Michael says. "You assume every burden is yours alone," Spock says. There's just as much action thanks to the Klingons, including the new Chancellor L'Rell (Mary Chieffo) and Georgiou,...

We’ve got a brand new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 to share with you today and it’s sure to get the fans excited for what’s in store for the series! This show ended up being a lot better than I expected and I loved what the firsts season delivered and it looks like Season 2 is going to be even better!
There’s a whole lot of new threats that Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the Enterprise will be facing off with. Some of there thrilling new adventures are teased in this new trailer. Oh, yeah! We even get our first look at actor Ethan Peck in the role of Spock and he’s sporting a beard! This is definitely a different take on the character that I wasn’t expecting and it’s an interesting look for him. But, it works!
