Lav Diaz Opens Up About Rare Acting Role in Psychological Horror ‘The Sacrifice,’ First Look Unveiled (Exclusive)
Image
The first official image has been unveiled of acclaimed Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz in “The Sacrifice,” a psychological horror film currently in production in the Philippines.

The award-winning director has intermittently stepped in front of the camera before. The newly released still offers a glimpse of Diaz as Pilo, a quiet and enigmatic jungle guide who leads a group of vloggers deep into remote terrain steeped in ritual and folklore.

Known for directing international festival favorites like “Norte, the End of History” and “The Woman Who Left” — which won the Golden Lion at Venice in 2016 — Diaz now opens up about his character in the upcoming thriller.

“I love the character. He’s a conflicted person — he paints a picture of the type of person we see every day. The greatest struggle in life is how to be a good human being, and I think Pilo embodies that conflict,” Diaz says.

Guilty Pleasure (2024) Movie Ending Explained: Does Alexis Succeed in Punishing Adam?
Connie Macatuno
Connie Macatuno’s “Guilty Pleasure” (2024) swirls around love and deception, spite and muffled desire. It’s an ugly vortex yearning for closure, confrontation, but its actors can’t rise above the unsure, insipid screenplay, even though they infuse the material with some heat passingly. Lovi Poe and Jm De Guzman essay as once-lovers now slugging through vicious betrayal and repressed desire. There’s power in the equation, a lack of necessary coming to terms with actions and consequence waiting to strike through.

Guilty Pleasure (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis: How Do You Rebuild After Betrayal?

Alexis (Lovi Poe) is in a relationship with her senior, Adam (Jm De Guzman), at the Atticus legal firm. She had all these dreams of being married to him, honeymooning in Florence. Little does she know the heartbreak that awaits her. There’s a sudden discovery she makes of the engagement announced between Adam and their boss’ daughter.

The first full-length Filipino film to be shot using green screens is an exploitation movie with a style that Quentin Tarantino would probably adore.

Cocky and lazy Makoy travels from Manila to the remote province of Pulupandan, to reconcile with his pregnant girlfriend, Sonia. Fely, her mother however, is fed up with him and does not want her daughter to end up with an unemployed playboy, a sentiment that eventually Sonia also adopts. On the other hand, Sonia’s father, Nestor, and their helper, Bart, are not so hard on him and even invite him to spend the night after the three of them go to the market to buy...

Filipino director Erik Matti had a very busy 2012, shooting a trio of films with erotic thriller Rigodon, effects driven action-horror-comedy Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles and Cannes selected crime thriller On The Job. He contributed a spot to The ABCs Of Death 2 this year but has been otherwise absent from screens since On The Job, with a number of projects in development but that ends on Christmas Day with the Filipino theatrical release of Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2.The scale of things is much bigger this time out with the surviving cast members from the first film - with the exception of Lovi Poe, who was publicly berated by the director for breaking her contract - fleeing the small town setting of the original...

What? You guys don't know what a friggin' Aswang is? Let's put it this way... this breed of vampire doesn't brood, doesn't dress in hip clothing, and they certainly don't sparkle. Read on for the first details on Tiktik The Aswang Chronicles!

This new Filipino film from director Erik Matti stars Dingdong Dantes, Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice De Belen, Ramon Bautista, Roi Vinzon, Lj Reyes, Mike Gayoso and Rina Reyes, and will be released in the Philippines on October 17th, 2012.

Synopsis

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is the first feature-length Filipino movie entirely shot on green screen. Only the houses and vehicles are real. All the backgrounds, including trees, mountains and creatures were laboriously and painstakingly realized using the latest computer technology. It honors the genre’s traditions without taking itself too seriously as it combines honest-to-goodness scares with irreverent Pinoy wit and humor.

Cinemalaya 2010: Maytime Review
I remember that afternoon where I first fell in love. This love is not the same as the shallow crushes I had for my dainty homeroom advisor in kindergarten or Alice Dixon from Okey Ka Fairy Ko in grade school. This love was, at least during those times, very real especially in terms that she was tangible and the possibility of me being in love with her morphing into us being in love with each other is good. I was just a year past puberty, a dweeb from high school, when I met her. I can recall the details very clearly. She glided down from the third floor of the mall to where she greeted me with the most distinct of smiles. It was a lovely smile, a smile that delicately curves to shape like a tired crescent moon, wrinkling a bit a very special portion of the cheek that...
