‘Candyman’ Star Tony Todd, Known for His Deep, Commanding Voice and Presence, Dead at 69
Image
American actor Tony Todd, known for his terrifying performance as the hook-handed, fur coat-donning ghost in the “Candyman” horror franchise, as well as his work on “Star Trek: The New Generation” and “Deep Space Nine,” passed away at his home in Marina Del Rey, California on Wednesday, November 6. He was 69.

The news was confirmed by Deadline and Variety and later confirmed by IndieWire. No cause of death has been revealed.

Todd was born in Washington D.C. on December 4, 1954. He grew up in Hartford, Connecticut and was an alumnus of the Artists Collective, Inc. formed there to promote the art and culture of the African diaspora. He attended college at the University of Connecticut, then went on to study theater at the Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theatre Institute in Waterford and later the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.

In his over 40-year career, Todd would work with the likes of Oliver Stone,...

William Shakespeare
Shakespeare’s Shitstorm Review: Troma and Lloyd Kaufman Make Good on Title
William Shakespeare
Low and high brow keep a respectable distance in this campy, loose-bowelled adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. Troma Entertainment has been dumping its unique brand of independent shock cinema for almost 50 years, and for connoisseurs looking for their distinct aroma, Shakespeare’s Shitstorm does not disappoint. The uninitiated viewer may leave screenings disgusted and disgruntled. The director would have it no other way. He’s flushing his career with gusto.

This will be the last film from Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman, and he is really letting go. “Uncle Lloydie,” the 74-year-old low-budget filmmaking icon, is the centerpiece of the film. He wrote the script with Brandon Bassham, Gabriel Friedman, Frazer Brown, Doug Sakmann, and Zac Amico. Kaufman plays multiple roles in this tangled web of revenge and other fecal matters. As Prospero, Kaufman finds a mouthpiece instead of a codpiece, spouting undeniable truthisms in the name of pseudoscience.

The Chainsaw Sally Show Revs Up for Season 2 on January 31st
She's baaaack. Fans of the psychotic, sexy siren with a saw will be thrilled to know that April Monique Burril and friends are ready to launch The Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2. Sally and all her friends are back, with more blood-letting, boobs and brutality than ever before. Believe the tagline... "Twice the Blood, Half the Clothes".

Series creator/writer/director JimmyO Burril says viewers will see a Sally they recognize, but perhaps a bit evolved. "While still a sitcom, this season is a little darker, a little grittier, with no rules except our own to guide us," JimmyO said. This can certainly be seen immediately in the first episode of Season 2 as Sally gets frisky with a plaything in a scene that evolves into a realistic bloodbath with a 70's-esque feel. "There are some new developments this season and a handful of unexpected twists and turns," added JimmyO. The biggest...

Ginger-Stein: Rise of the Undead, the First Mini-Series in the Ginger-Stein Franchise, Begins October 11th
It was a little over a year ago that we first heard about Dennis Willman's new comic series Ginger-Stein: Rise of the Undead, and now that the first issue is about to launch on Tuesday, October 11th, we have a lot more details and an image gallery to share.

From the Press Release:

On October 11th artistic mastermind Dennis Willman reveals his newest creation, Ginger-Stein, to the world. Ginger-Stein is the title of a multimedia horror/sci-fi project that is written, created, and illustrated by Willman and is unlike anything the horror audience has ever seen.

Ginger-Stein: Rise of the Undead is the first in a set of six comic book mini-series featuring horror’s hottest new heroine. The story and artwork are deeply rooted in 1980’s horror and sci-fi nostalgia. The violence is over-the-top, and like any good 80’s horror story, there’s sex, drugs, and a breaking of...

Don’t mess with this ‘Little Big Boy’
Little Big Boy is, to say the least, a film like no other. It tells the story of acclaimed horror film director Jimmy Duncan, famous for his hot temper aswell as his very exploitative movies. Having witnessed the murder of his mother at the age of seven, Duncan grows up at an orphanage and as an adult works his way up in the movie industry.

Caught up in the downward spiral of his own success surrounded by movie reviewers who refuse to acknowledge his obvious talent, starlet wannabes with absolutely no talent, producers with little patience and people who will do anything and exploit anyone to become famous in an industry where you can count on no-one, we follow Jimmy while working on his fourth feature film “Death Stalker”, which quickly turns into a descent into complete and utter madness as his leading lady leaves the production halfway through the shooting.

Interview With Joel D. Wynkoop (Brainjacked, Truth or Dare: Screaming For Sanity)
Joel D. Wynkoop is one of the hardest working actors in the indie horror world, having appeared in over 50 films. He is the John Carradine of horror films. Towards the beginning of the decade, he experienced a resurgence in film work and racked up one credit after another. The 80's and 90's saw him working infrequently, though one of his more well known films is Truth or Dare: Screaming For Sanity. I had the chance to ask him a few questions about his career. Here is what he had to say.

Lock Up Your Fears in The Horror Vault 3
In the mood to watch something new but don't have a lot of time to spend in one sitting? Then check out the third and final installment of The Horror Vault Trilogy, which is out on DVD now and contains five separate tales of terror and depravity.

Back in May of 2008 Melissa reviewed the first installment of The Horror Vault (review here), and her advice to the filmmakers was to concentrate on quality over quantity and cut back on the number of films included (Volume 1 had nine films in all). It seems they took her advice as Volumes 2 and 3 both contain five each. Below is the list of what's included in Volume 3:

Synopsis:

Starting off, it's "A Christmas Haunting" directed by Kim Sønderholm and starring Kim Sønderholm, Russ Diapper, Tanja Bønke, Mette Løvendahl and celebrity model Katrine Poulsen. There are also some brief cameos by well known indie stars such as April Monique Burril,...

Play Dead Trailer Mixes Football and Zombies
Touchdown!

Finally, someone has mixed two of America's favorite past times: football and zombies!

Based on the just-released novel by Ryan Brown, Play Dead was written and directed by Doug Sakmann and Fangoria has grabbed the first trailer for the movie. According to Sakmann, another is coming.

"We will be releasing a more extreme red-band trailer in conjunction with the NYC Zombie Crawl event Sunday, May 30 in Brooklyn," said Sakmann. That will premiere at the Crawl after-party at the new Knitting Factory in Williamsburg. We’ll have Ryan Brown on hand for a meet-and-greet and to sign books, and before the screening we’ll do a Q&A with myself, Ryan and the cast and crew of Play Dead: The Movie. Also, Joe Frantz of MTV’s Jackass and Viva La Bam has put together an amazing behind-the-scenes feature on the making of the project, which will also be...

Shoreline Entertainment Picks Up Three from Creep Creepersin
Shoreline Entertainment has recently signed three films by notorious low budget filmmaker Creep Creepersin, just in time for Afm.

First up is Orgy of Blood, an erotic vampire film starring Domiziano Arcangeli, who is also executive producer. The film, also starring Chandler Maness ("Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"), Randal Malone (Curse of Lizzie Borden), Jeff Dylan Graham (Psychosomatika), and a slew of horror genre favorites, wrapped in May. Orgy of Blood was written and directed by Creep Creepersin and produced by Aine Leicht and Nikki Wall.

Shoreline also snapped up two more Creepersin films for release as a Grindhouse-style double feature: The Creep Creepersin Double Featuresin. Comprised of Vaginal Holocaust and Caged Lesbos a-Go-Go, the double feature is a heavy throwback to 60’s and 70’s exploitation films.

Vaginal Holocaust takes the viewer on a trip where rape and revenge go hand in hand with redneck vampires and a man-eating vagina! It...

Timo Rose’s Beast (2009)
Written and Directed by Timo Rose, based on a concept by Mark Hyacinth

Starring Joseph Zaso, Raine Brown, Joe Davison, Timo Rose, Yasmin Pucci, Andreas Pape, and Eileen Daily

Review by Dan Coyle

Are werewolves the new zombies? Well, with the recent success of Zombieland, zombies are still the new zombies. But every few years, we seem to be subjected to a spate of werewolf projects. We’ve got the troubled remake of the Wolf Man coming up with Benicio del Toro, for one thing. Vampire fiction seems practically overrun with werewolves as side characters or enemies. The cult reputation of the Ginger Snaps trilogy continues to grow. And the low budget horror scene has a bit of full moon fever, with Beast- ahem, Timo Rose’s Beast...

Writer/co-star/editor/director Rose (the Mutation series, Barricade, the upcoming Game Over) has a concept I haven’t seen before- clandestine...

Fangoria Radio: Scream Kings, Body Disposal, and Jingle Hits
I love Sirius; from the security guards, to the labyrinthine hallways, to the Fishbowl studio where we do the show every Friday from 10pm-1am. Well, every Friday except for one when we got stuffed into Studio 21c where Jim Breuer does his show. That night was of course the Only night I have had guests come in (my Dad & step-mom visiting from Austin, TX) and of course it was in the studio I’ve aptly named “The Shoebox”. Although, horror actress and friend to the Fang, Monique Dupree almost came in to see Gwar last week. Next time, Monique… next time.

On Friday, we welcomed Dexter’s crass and perverted (and downright lovable) Forensics officer Masuka played expertly by Cs Lee (No relation to Bruce Fyi). Suspiciously, he called in from a Marina and kept getting distracted by something or someone that he may or may not have been dragging through the harbor.

Porn Star Joanna Angel Joins Haunting Kira
Porn has become so mainstream I am surprised that more horror directors are not casting porn stars in their films these days. You know they will get naked, they are probably cheap, and if your film is going to suffer from bad acting, it might as well be by a hot porn chick. So I applaud the makers of Haunting Kira for getting my attention by casting Joanna Angel in their film, because they sure weren't getting it with her co-stars Monique Dupree and Rachel Grubb. Angel has starred in the porn parodies Porny Monster, Repenetrator The XXXorcist plus many other "adult titles." Ari Lehman, Kathleen Kinmont and Donna Hamblin round out the rest of the cast.

More Genre Actors Will be Haunting Kira
Kathleen Kinmont (Halloween 4, Bride of Re-Animator, pictured) and Ari Lehman (Friday the 13th) have joined the cast of the indie horror flick Haunting Kira, along with Scream Queens Monique Dupree (Skeleton Key 2 and Donna Hamblin (Demon Haunt). Read on for more details and a strange but compelling premise.

These actors join star Rachel Grubb, for the horror flick about a ghostly apparition who re-animates a rotting corpse.

Producer Chad Clinton Freeman (Regan Redding's "Killer Biker Chicks," Shane Ryan's "Amateur Porn Star Killer 3D," "Super Undead Doctor Roach") said Lehman will be playing the role of a cab driver when "Haunting Kira" shoots in Las Vegas in early 2010.

"Jason Vorhees driving a cab, loose on the streets of Las Vegas; If that's not scary, I don't know what is," Freeman joked. "But seriously, casting Lehman is one of the many fun things we have planned with this project. Hopefully...
