Exclusive: Ridley Scott’s Scott Free has appointed Elyse Seder as EVP and Head of Nonfiction and named EVP Marjorie Chodorov Head of Physical Production.

In the newly created role, Seder will oversee creative, talent and partnerships for nonfiction content. Scott Free has ventured into unscripted programming, most recently with the multi-part Still Missing Morgan for Hulu/ABC News this year, but the company hadn’t had a dedicated nonfiction executive or department in more than eight years. Seder’s hire marks an expansion into the arena.

Meanwhile, Chodorov will be in charge of all aspects of physical and post-production for Scott Free’s TV division. She has been with the company since 2021 as EVP Production, with her role now expanding to include nonfiction and international.

Both Seder and Chodorov will report to Scott Free’s Cco David W Zucker, President of Television Clayton Krueger and President of Film Mike Pruss.

20th Century Studios released new details on the upcoming ninth Alien movie as filming’s set to get underway in Budapest on March 9, 2023. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) will star and Fede Alvarez is directing.

The studio also confirmed David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (Rosaline), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home) are on board the sci-fi thriller.

Alvarez co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. They previously collaborated on Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Calls, Don’t Breathe 2, 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the shorts El Cojonudo and Ataque de Panico.

Alien, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott is producing along with Michael Pruss (under their Scott Free banner). Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion), and Tom Moran (The Donut King) serve as executive producers.

20th Century Studios has announced new plot details, cast additions and production status for the latest “Alien” film.

While the premise for the yet-to-be-titled movie has been kept under wraps, the studio did reveal that the film will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

The newest entry into the "Alien" franchise started by Ridley Scott is coming to us from Fede Álvarez, the filmmaker who brought us 2013's "Evil Dead" and 2016's "Don't Breathe." The film, which will be released on Hulu, is set to star Cailee Spaeny. Though we don't have any information yet about what role she'll play or what the story of the film is, we do know that she'll have a co-star in Isabela Merced, according to Deadline.

Los Angeles, Feb 26 (Ians) Actor Michael Mando has reportedly been released from his upcoming series ‘Sinking Spring’. The ‘Better Call Saul’ actor, 41, was reportedly fired after he got into a physical altercation with an unidentified cast member on the set of the Ridley Scott series.

Mando previously starred as Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Varga, a recurring character on all six seasons of the ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off. He’s also starred in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Elysium’ (with Moura), as well as held a role in Orphan Black, reports People magazine.

His role has since been recast with Wagner Moura. According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers allegedly made the decision to drop Mando from the role after attempting to smooth things over between him and the co-star.

Sinking Spring stars Moura, 46, as Manny and Brian Tyree Henry as Ray, two lifelong friends from Philly who met in a detention centre 20 years earlier.

Sources say the Better Call Saul alum, who was set to star in the eight-episode series from Ridley Scott, was dismissed from the show following a clash with a co-star. Mando’s role has been recast, with Narcos alum Wagner Moura set to take on the part. Moura will reteam with Apple after previously appearing in Shining Girls for the streamer.

Sources said Mando, who played Nacho on all six seasons of AMC’s Better Call Saul, was let go after an on-set incident. Producers attempted to smooth things out, and the decision was made to let Mando go from the series and recast the role.

Reps for Apple declined comment.

Picked up to series in August, the series is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book Dope Thief and is being written by Top Gun: Maverick scribe Peter Craig.

A new Alien film (possibly titled Alien: Romulus) is set to begin filming in February with Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) at the helm – and the Alien TV series that Fargo series creator Noah Hawley has been developing for FX and the Hulu streaming service (as first announced in December of 2020) won’t be far behind it. We heard back in August that the Alien TV series was expected to start filming this year, and FX head John Landgraf has now confirmed that the production start isn’t far away.

Speaking at a Television Critics Association event, Landgraf said (with thanks to Deadline for the transcription), “Noah is currently in production on the fifth season of Fargo but he’s in active pre-production on Alien, he’s written scripts. I think he’s meeting with his production designer in Austin this weekend, gearing up for production this year after he completes the fifth season of Fargo.

20th Century Studios has unveiled first-look photos from its true-crime thriller Boston Strangler — also unveiling a premiere date for the film starring two-time Oscar nominee Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game).

Pic will bow on March 17 exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.

Also newly announced is a three-part companion podcast — from ABC News division, ABC Audio — to be released for free on all major podcast platforms ahead of the film’s debut.

The Boston Strangler film from writer-director Matt Ruskin follows Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders of the 1960s. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole (Carrie Coon), yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era.

Empire has shared a pair of first look images from the upcoming serial killer drama based on the Boston Strangler murders, a project that was produced by Ridley Scott – and those images, which feature stars Keira Knightley (the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) and Carrie Coon (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) in character, can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Matt Ruskin (Crown Heights) wrote and directed Boston Strangler, which was filmed in Boston back in December of 2021 and January of 2022. The movie tells the true story of Loretta McLaughlin, the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed. Loretta pursued the story at great personal risk and uncovered corruption that cast doubt on the true identity of the Boston Strangler.

A production listing posted by the Film & Television Industry Alliance has revealed that the Alien film that’s set to be directed by Fede Alvarez is going by the working title of Alien: Romulus… and filming is scheduled to begin in Budapest, Hungary on February 6th!

Last month, it was announced that Cailee Spaeny of Pacific Rim: Uprising will star in the film, which is coming to us from Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner. It’s being made for release through the Hulu streaming service, much like the Predator franchise addition Prey that was released earlier this year (and turned out to be one of the more well-received entries in that series).

Very little is known what Alvarez has in store for us with Alien: Romulus. Alvarez will be directing the film from a screenplay he was written with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.

Deadline reports that a series based on Don Winslow's super-popular "Cartel Trilogy" is in the works at FX with a pilot deal. The 720-page tome "The Border" is actually the third book in the pulpy, epic crime novel series, following "The Cartel" and "The Power of the Dog".

FX has given a pilot order to The Border, a drama based on the third book in Don Winslow’s bestselling Cartel Trilogy, from Daniel Zelman,, Shane Salerno is set to lead the cast, which also includes Frank Blake, Annie Shapero (Red Skies), Sebastián Buitrón and Luis Bordonada. Produced by FX Productions, the pilot will begin production in Mexico in 2023.

Zelman will write and serve as showrunner and executive producer along with Salerno, who adapted The Border for television with Zelman, Winslow, Diego Gutierrez, Jayro Bustamante, who will direct the pilot, and Scott Free. Anabel Hernández will serve as Consulting Producer.

The New York Times called the Cartel Trilogy “a hybrid of The Godfather and War and Peace” and “this generation’s defining work of American mass-culture storytelling on the border.” FX nabbed the rights to the trilogy in 2019.

The Disney-owned cable outlet has ordered a drama pilot based on a trio of novels by best-selling author Don Winslow. The Border — named after the third book in Winslow’s cartel trilogy — will delve into the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border via the lives of several people on both sides of the conflict.

E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man) will star as Art Keller, a Mexican-American DEA agent. The cast also includes Frank Blake (Normal People) as Sean Callan, Annie Shapero as Nora Hayden, Sebastián Buitrón (Narcos: Mexico) as Adan Barrera and Luis Bordonada (Vida) as Miguel Angel Barrera.

FX optioned Winslow’s cartel trilogy — which also includes 2005’s The Power of the Dog (no relation to the 2021 film of the same title) and 2015’s The Cartel — in March 2019, shortly after The Border was published.

Kristen Stewart will be stepping behind the camera to make her feature debut as director.

Deadline is reporting that the “Twilight” star has signed on to director “The Chronology of Water”, an upcoming film starring Imogen Poots and produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free.

Based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir of the same name, Stewart will be teaming with screenwriter Andy Mingo — who is Yuknavitch’s husband — to co-write the script.

Having previously made a short film, Come Swim, which she wrote, directed and screened at both Cannes and Sundance, she is now reuniting with the Ridley Scott-backed production company to direct The Chronology of Water. Stewart will also adapt the script alongside Andy Mingo, with the basis being the memoir written by Lidia Yuknavitch. Scott and Michael Pruss are producing alongside Mingo. Scott Free’s Rebecca Feuer will serve as an executive producer on the film.

It’s game over for Cailee Spaeny as she’s cautiously creeping around a new Alien movie from director Fede Alvarez. Momentum and 20th Century Studios are salivating at the thought of another Alien film heading to the silver screen, with Scott Free producing.

Details about Alvarez’s new Alien movie remain a mystery. Still, we’ve heard the project will place the Xenomorphs front and center as they terrorize the human race.
