Madeline Delp, Rob Delaney & Ray Fisher Join Apple’s ‘Being Heumann’
Image
Exclusive: Madeline Delp (Ballroom), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), and Ray Fisher (The Piano Lesson) are new additions to Being Heumann, Apple’s civil rights drama based on the bestselling memoir from disability activist Judy Heumann.

The trio joins previously announced stars Ruth Madeley, Mark Ruffalo and Dylan O’Brien in the cast. Delp will play disability rights activist Kitty Cone, with Fisher as the Black Panther Party’s Chuck Johnson, and Delaney as Congressman Miller. The latter character is presumably modeled off of George Miller, who played a key role in supporting Heumann and her fight for disability rights during the 1970s.

Being Heumann follows Heumann as she leads over a hundred disabled people to take over the San Francisco Federal Building, kicking off a 28-day sit-in in 1977. The protestors quickly form a tightly bound community, refusing to leave until the government enforces section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which required...

R.E.M., Jeff Tweedy, Waxahatchee, and Many More Contribute to Hurricane Helene Benefit Album
Image
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many musicians have used their platforms to try to deliver some much-needed relief. Some have donated money, others have announced benefit concerts — now, joining those efforts is a massive compilation album featuring 135 previously-unreleased tracks from artists like R.E.M., Jeff Tweedy & Karly Hartzman, Jason Isbell, Fleet Foxes, Waxahatchee, Sylvan Esso, and many more.

Titled Cardinals at the Window, the compilation was officially released today, and is now available to purchase on Bandcamp. Curated by three North Carolina natives — musician and community organizer Libby Rodenbough, New Commute founder David Walker, and music journalist Grayson Haver Currin — the album will raise funds for three organizations: Rural Organizing and Resilience, BeLoved Asheville, and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.

Across its 135 tracks, Cardinals at the Window features a combination of new recordings and previously-unreleased live tracks. In addition to the aforementioned artists, the compilation’s stacked lineup includes Mj Lenderman,...

Our Flag Means Death True Story: Did Izzy Hands Really Lose His Leg Because Of Blackbeard?
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Our Flag Means Death season 2, episode 5.

In Our Flag Means Death, Izzy Hands loses his leg in a dramatic turn of events, but this did not happen in real life to the historical figure Israel Hands. The show takes liberties with the characters and events, as Izzy's journey with a wooden leg is fictional. In reality, Hands sustained a different injury inflicted by Blackbeard. Blackbeard accidentally shot Izzy in the knee in real life, but historical accounts differ on the reasons. However, this injury ultimately saved Hands' life by keeping him away from the conflict that led to Blackbeard's death.

In Our Flag Means Death season 2, Izzy Hands loses his leg, leaving viewers to wonder if this pivotal moment stems from a true story. The earliest episodes of the first season of the period rom-com see Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) trusting in his long-time first...

Israel Hands: Who The Black Sails Pirate Was In Real Life Explained
Image
Israel Hands was Blackbeard's first mate, according to historical accounts. Despite his brutality in Black Sails, Hands maintains unwavering loyalty to Blackbeard, which eventually pays off when he is made captain of Adventure.

When Jonathan E. Steinberg's historical adventure series, Black Sails, premiered on Starz, it introduced a number of famous pirates who actually existed during the Golden Age of Piracy, one of them being Israel Hands. A prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel, Treasure Island, Black Sails follows a young Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his crew members, who fight for the survival of New Providence Island. During their quest, Flint and his crew encounter various favorite pirates like Anne Bonny (Clara Paget), Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson), and of course Israel Hands (David Wilmot).

First introduced in season 4 of Black Sails, Israel Hands made a great impression of being a brutal pirate who was willing to do...

Twitter Permanently Bans Alex Jones, InfoWars
Twitter permanently suspended far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from the platform, citing tweets and videos that violate the service’s ban on abusive behavior.

The decision comes a day after Jones accosted Sen. Marco Rubio outside the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing yesterday, crashing the Florida lawmaker’s press conference and denigrating the lawmaker as a “little frat boy” in video that was circulated on Twitter.

Another video shows Jones shouting at and berating CNN journalist Oliver Darcy for some 10 minutes outside the same Senate Intelligence Committee hearing concerning efforts by Facebook and Twitter to prevent foreign influence of their social media platforms during the midterm elections.

According to a report by NBC News, Jones may have brought on the ban by harassing Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who was testifying before the Senate committee as Jones sat in the front row. Other right-wing figures such as Chuck Johnson, Laura Loomer and...
