Harry Hadden-Paton & Rebecca Night Launch London-Based Production Company Symphony Films
Image
Exclusive: Married actors Harry Hadden-Paton and Rebecca Night on Friday morning announced the launch of Symphony Films, a new production company that they’ve co-founded.

Based out of London, the company will be active across a variety of genres, in both film television, pursuing projects that embody the values of diversity, inclusion, sustainability and equality.

Symphony Films’ first project is Legacy, a dramatic comedy short starring James Purefoy, Luke Norris and Amelia Gething, which marks Hadden-Paton’s first as writer-director, and Night’s first as a producer. In it, a girl brings her fiancé home to meet her father for the first time. But… home is not merely a home. And her father is from a very different world. Social classes and generations clash in this black comedy of manners set in the stunning English countryside, where the responsibility of conserving the family legacy is not for the faint-hearted.

Harry Hadden-Paton Brings Henry Higgins Into New Century; Talks ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie – Tony Awards Watch
Harry Hadden-Paton
When Harry Hadden-Paton was informed by his agent that he’d been asked to audition for the Lincoln Center Theater production of My Fair Lady, his first response thought was Freddy Eynsford-Hill, the lovesick young swain smitten with flower girl Eliza Doolittle. Told they were interested in him for the leading – and older – character, Professor Henry Higgins, Hadden-Paton’s next question was, Will I have to wear a cardigan?

“Because, ultimately, I know they’re just going to go for what they always go for,” he remembers thinking. Assured by his agent that this Higgins was to be something different, something younger than the usual Higgins – Hadden-Paton doesn’t say it, but he’d be entirely justified in hoping for something less Rex Harrison – the 37-year-old London-born actor took a shot.

“And I’m very glad I did,” he says.

Tony-nominated for Best Actor in a Musical, Hadden-Paton portrays a...

‘Leopard’ Review
Stars: Tom Hopper, Jack Reynor, Eoin Macken, Rebecca Night, Liam Carney, Charlotte Atkinson, Melia Kreiling, Brian Fortune, Laura Hopper, Anthony Murphy | Written and Directed by Eoin Macken

Anyone who listens to our podcast knows that while Chris and myself love the fanfare of the huge blockbuster Marvel/DC/Star Wars releases. But nothing can quite compare to the smaller independent films that you just know every second of screen time came straight from one persons passion to make a piece of cinema that is all their’s. A movie that can display such mastery of their craft and hit you square in the heart (or balls) and make you feel something that… In my opinion capes and spandex just can’t do that.

Leopard is exactly that type of movie.

A true passion piece that is driven by the wonderfully carefully calculated mind of its writer/director/actor, but smashed...

Dartmoor Killing review – low-budget thriller starts well, goes downhill
Take away the gore in Peter Nicholson’s story of young hikers and you’d have an attractive promo for Dartmoor tourism

Peter Nicholson’s low-budget horror-thriller starts better than it ends. As two young hikers (Gemma-Leah Devereux, Rebecca Night) are led off the beaten track by a hunky guide (Callum Blue), the first act’s every set-up benefits from the screen-filling backdrops of the eponymous moors. It’s disappointing, then, that Nicholson should retreat from this spectacular stage to a farmhouse haunted by mysterious deaths; doubly so when the relationships, dialogue and action all stop ringing true. Redact the gore, and it’d make an attractive promo for Dartmoor tourism, but A Night in the Woods (2012) hounded its characters far more persuasively over this particular terrain.

Suspension of Disbelief Review
In 1996, English director Mike Figgis was deservedly nominated for an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas. Now, 13 years later, he presents Suspension of Disbelief, an erotic thriller that feels more like an art school project than the work of an accomplished filmmaker, in what is an unsuccessful attempt in pushing the boundaries of the thriller genre.

Sebastian Koch plays Martin, a successful screenwriter who teachers at a local film school. His latest work is currently in production, and has his very own daughter Sarah (Rebecca Night) cast in one of his leading roles. In the meantime he hosts a birthday party for his offspring, where the beautiful and elusive stranger Angelique (Lotte Verbeek) attends. In a hazy, alcohol and drug filled night, the pair appear to get it on, only for Angelique to die mysteriously on her way home the following morning. With a police investigation ongoing, the victims twin sister...

Fanny Hill (review)
Oh, stop your tittering. All you know is that Fanny Hill is that naughty bawdy 18th-century novel [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon U.K.] that got its author, John Cleland, into so much trouble so long ago, and has since become a byword for the evils of censorship and the necessity of freedom of expression. But if you’re looking for something pornographic in this BBC adaptation of the novel, forget it, mister. You might just get a lesson in female backbone and autonomy, though. That’s a pretty shocking lesson from 250 years ago, seeing as how we’ve barely learned it today. Sure, innocent, innocent orphan Fanny Hill (delightful newcomer Rebecca Night), “fresh from the country” to London in the mid 1700s, gets taken advantage of... as does many a young woman today, what with so many of us still thinking it’s “proper” to keep the female of the species as ignorant of her own...
