Derrick Sims

Beautiful New Trailer For Come Morning
Come Morning, the dark drama from filmmaker Derrick Sims, has a beautiful new trailer featuring a lot of rifles, some intensely dark scenes, and a quote from us, here at We Got This Covered.

This new trailer is pretty awesome. It’s quickly paced and does a ton to capture the tension of the film. Land disputes are nothing new to movies, but this film shows just how tense they can be and all the negative things that can stem from them. It’s hard to not be interested in why a little boy is bleeding from the face while holding a rifle, assuming I’m not the only one who thinks something like that is out of the ordinary.

Additionally, we are also quoted in the trailer, which is always exciting. I was able to catch the film at the Oxford Film Festival in February and it was one...

Interview With Derrick Sims On Come Morning
To say Come Morning is a film by Derrick Sims is probably one of the few times that the “film by” tag actually works. Sims did just about everything on his dark drama including writing, directing, shooting, editing, and producing. It seemed like the only thing he didn’t do was star in the film. I recently caught a screening of the film at the Oxford Film Festival and thought it was one of the best independent films I’ve seen in a long time (you can see why in my review). After the screening I was able to catch up with Sims for an interview. He told me about the inspiration for the film,...

Come Morning Review
Let me start this review with a warning: after watching Come Morning, it’s likely that you’ll never want to walk in the woods alone again. This film so vividly destroyed any notion I’ve ever had of a stroll through the forest being a peaceful, enjoyable experience that I want to hate it, but I simply can’t. The film is too memorable and too excellent for me to have any feelings of dislike toward it, despite the fact I’ll never again be able to enjoy nature without looking over my shoulder again.

Come Morning tells the story of D (Thor Wahlestedt) and his grandfather Frank (Michael Ray Davis) who accidentally shoot a trespassing neighbor while hunting deer. It isn’t as simple as calling the authorities and reporting an accident though, due to a long history of land disputes between the two families, so Frank and...
