Arthur Hamilton, “Cry Me a River” Songwriter, Dies at 98
Image
Arthur Hamilton, the Oscar-nominated songwriter best known for his smoky torch-song classic “Cry Me a River,” memorably recorded by Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Cocker and many others, has died. He was 98.

His death was announced this week by ASCAP and the Society of Composers and Lyricists; details were not immediately available.

Hamilton received his Oscar nom for best song (shared with composer Riz Ortolani) for “Till Love Touches Your Life” from Madron (1970), performed by Richard Williams and Jan Daley for the movie Western that starred Richard Boone and Leslie Caron.

For Warner Bros.’ Pete Kelly’s Blues (1955), starring and directed by Jack Webb, Hamilton created two wistful songs for Peggy Lee, who played an alcoholic jazz singer in the musical crime film — “He Needs Me” and “Sing a Rainbow,” which would evolve into a children’s classic.

“Cry Me a River” was sung by Fitzgerald for the film but did...

Cowell interjects jokingly, adding, “I thought it was six minutes.”

Where Is Susan Boyle Now? Her Life Today 16 Years After ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Fame
Image
It’s been more than 15 years since Susan Boyle went viral after her singing debut on Season 3 of Britain’s Got Talent. At 47 years old, Boyle left the judges, audience, and viewers with their jaws on the floor when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” for her audition. Her talent took her all the way to the end of the competition, where she finished as the runner-up. Boyle quickly became a prime example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Just because she was older than the average Bgt contestant and didn’t physically look like someone who might be an international superstar in the making, it didn’t mean that she wasn’t. But was it a fleeting moment, or did it last? Scroll down for everything we know about what Boyle is up to today. Where is Susan Boyle now? “Montoya, Por Favor!”: The Story Behind ‘Temptation Island’ Spain’s Viral Sensation
Image
Exclusive: If you’ve been anywhere near social media in the past couple of weeks, you will be familiar with José Carlos Montoya. He’s the Spanish hunk making the desperate charge across a moonlit beach to confront his girlfriend as she slips between the sheets with another man. It’s the clip that spawned the “Montoya, por favor!” viral sensation, bringing together in meme-union Whoopi Goldberg, New York Nicks star Josh Hart, and Netflix’s social admin.

Viewed more than 320M times across two Twitter/X accounts alone, Montoya’s mad dash is a cinematic moment that originates from La Isla de las Tentaciones, also known as Spain’s version of Temptation Island. Montoya was just five years old when Temptation Island was first conceived on Fox in 2001 and the show is in its eighth season in Spain, meaning the format is well-drilled to deliver high drama.

The best Christian Christmas movies remind viewers just why celebrating the holiday is so important - and not just because of the Biblical event that led to the holiday in the first place. While there’s no shortage of Christmas movies out there, those that devote themselves to keeping themes like love, family, gratitude, and togetherness at their core feel few and far between by the 2020s.

This is what makes Christian Christmas movies so important. What’s more, the best Christian films to watch at Christmas aren’t limited to retellings of the birth of Jesus, either. There are many movies with all sorts of settings and characters that have an important faith-based message about the holiday, and viewers seeking a solid seasonal holiday film with Christian themes have no shortage of variety to choose from.

American Idol's William Hung Had A Fascinating Life After Going Viral And His Hit Song
Image
When most people think of American Idol, they envision the reality show's wealthy judges, including Paula Abdul, who repeatedly quit the series. However, one of the main reasons why American Idol is one of the best reality competition shows is because fans love the performers. For that reason, fans are interested in David Archuleta's transformation, what happened to Wyatt Pike, and when Scotty McCreery was heroic.

Even though some singing competition performers have become famous, like Susan Boyle, who still lives in a tiny house, William Hung's brush with stardom was shocking. With that in mind, it makes sense that American Idol fans would want to know what has happened to William since he became a viral music star.

William Hung Has Led An Incredible Life Since His Viral American Idol Fame

While American Idol is still a successful show, it is nowhere near as impactful as it once was.

The interviewer even suggested Zac Efron could play a younger Goodall. “That would be cool,” Goodall said of the Efron suggestion before joking, “He’d probably have to put on a little weight, though.” Joking aside, Goodall seemed up for the idea of a biopic, saying, “It sounds like fun. Futurama Season 12 Is Avoiding A Revival Mistake That Can Make It Better Than Season 11
Image
Futurama season 12 will feature fewer topical jokes, avoiding the dated references that plagued season 11. Season 11's best episodes were nostalgic call-backs, while weaker ones focused on outdated satirical topics. Futurama's future setting makes it challenging to pull off timely humor, leading to season 12's wise choice.

As Futurama season 12s release date approaches, the cartoon comedy promises to avoid an issue that hurt 2023s season 11 revival. Futurama has been through more iterations than most TV shows ever manage since the series debuted in 1999. Futuramas Planet Express crew was first introduced in seasons 1-4, which aired between 1999 and 2003. Futurama was then canceled and later revived for a quartet of direct-to-dvd movies which subsequently spawned a fifth season in 2008. In 2010 and 2011, further seasons were produced before Futurama was canceled again and, in 2023, renewed once more.

Now, July 2024 will see the arrival of Futurama season 12. This latest season promises more adventures for Fry,...

8 Controversial Futurama Storylines That Hulu's Revival Can Fix
Image
Futurama's season 11 revival could bring back characters with unfulfilled potential. The revival should improve on the inconsistent anthology episodes from past seasons. The show should address and make up for past misjudged plot lines.

While the Futurama revival is going strong, the series still has a few controversial storylines from earlier seasons that season 11 should fix. Futurama has a messy history. The show began airing in 1999 and originally lasted four seasons. Futurama was canceled in 2003, but the show was then revived for a quartet of straight-to-dvd feature-length spinoff movies between 2007 and 2008. These proved so popular that Futurama was revived again in 2010 for two more seasons. Futurama was canceled again in 2013, only for Hulu to revive the series once more in 2023.

As such, it was no surprise when Futurama's revival used a meta-joke to mock the show's rocky network history in the season 11 premiere. Since then, it has been...

Futurama Season 8 Is Already Taking Major Story Risks (Didn't They Learn?)
Image
The Futurama revival is one of the most anticipated comedy shows of 2023, but the trailer has already proven that the series is taking a major risk upon its return. Futurama has a complicated history. Debuting in 1999, Futurama lasted for four seasons that aired from 1999 to 2002. The animated sci-fi comedy was then revived for four standalone feature-length movies between 2007 and 2008. This led to a fifth-season revival, which resulted in a sixth and seventh season released between 2010 and 2012. Then, in 2022, Hulu revived the series again, greenlighting Futurama season 8, which will consist of 20 episodes to air from July until September 2023.

This complicated history inevitably affected Futurama’s reception. While Futurama’s original revival ending was brilliant, it came at the end of two messy, divisive seasons. Like the revival movies, Futurama seasons 6 and 7 were inconsistent and featured some major misfires as well as some classic outings. This was nothing new for Futurama. The...

Korean Singer Choi Sung-bong Dies at 33
Image
Korean singer Choi Sung-bong, who sprung to fame after placing second on Korea’s Got Talent, has died by suicide, Seoul police said Wednesday. He was 33.

Choi was found dead by police at his home in the Yeoksam-dong district in southern Seoul at 9:41 a.m. Tuesday, according to South Korea wire service Yonthap, which was the first to report the news.

Choi had an underprivileged upbringing and dropped out of music school because he couldn’t afford the tuition fees. After spending years supporting himself as a day laborer, his big break came in 2011 when he landed a spot on Korea’s Got Talent, broadcast by tvN. Choi’s operatic performance of Ennio Morricone’s “Nella Fantasia” wowed the show’s judges and he advanced to the finals, eventually coming in second place by just 280 votes. The YouTube clip of his performance on the show went viral and was viewed over 21 million times,...

‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Final Slumps To Record Low Rating As Simon Cowell’s Star Format Loses Sparkle
Image
Britain’s Got Talent is no longer the ratings banker it once was.

Simon Cowell’s star format is losing its shine after the latest season bowed out with 5.3M viewers, the lowest-rated finale in the ITV show’s 16-year history.

The figure does not include catch-up or online viewing and is perhaps unsurprising in an era when live television audiences are becoming increasingly fragmented by streaming.

Last year’s Bgt final was watched by 6M viewers, while the 2020 curtain closer managed 5.9M despite being heavily delayed by the pandemic, according to Barb figures from overnights.tv.

Despite the decline in viewing, Britain’s Got Talent was the highest-rated show on British television on Sunday and its audience share of 36.6% was in line with last year.

At the height of its powers, Britain’s Got Talent‘s 2009 final was watched by an audience of 18.5M in the UK as Susan Boyle was unexpectedly beaten by dance troupe Diversity.

No. All it takes is, what, three poorly shot TikTok videos to basically decide that this tour is not worth coming to see,” she tells the magazine. “I know that people don’t love me because love is really unconditional, and I’m one scandal away from being canceled indefinitely like anyone else.”

Bishop Briggs (‘The Masked Singer’ Medusa) unmasked interview: ‘This is the craziest, coolest thing ever!’

The Masked Singer season 9's Medusa, who was revealed to be platinum-selling singer Bishop Briggs, won the Golden Mask trophy after competing against David Archuleta's Macaw, and even though they were both fantastic throughout the season, Medusa deserved her win. Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 14 season finale of “The Masked Singer,” which aired May 17 on Fox.

Like a river, Bishop Briggs kept a steady flow throughout Season 9 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” — and her perseverance was rewarded with the championship. Briggs, as Medusa, won this season’s top prize and was finally unmasked on Wednesday night’s finale, along with runner-up David Archuleta, revealed as the Macaw.

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Medusa costume. The snake-haired villainess performed a pitch-perfect rendition of “Happier Than Ever” during the season premiere and left the judges “speechless.” She returned in Episode 2 with “Dancing Queen” and won the crown yet again. She then advanced from the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, which means she will appear in the season finale. Do You know who she is? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Medusa guesses.

Medusa makes history on ‘The Masked Singer’: ‘I’m gonna replay this in my mind forever’
Image
For the first eight seasons of “The Masked Singer,” if a contestant didn’t receive enough votes to qualify for the next round, they would be forced to unmask and reveal their true identity in front of America. Season 9, however, introduced a new twist known as the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell. This allowed the panelists to save an eliminated singer by ringing a bell. During the April 26 episode, saved contestants Medusa, Gargoyle and Mantis competed to make history on “The Masked Singer” and be the first person ever to re-enter the competition, and Medusa prevailed.

Medusa’s triumph wasn’t much of a surprise. After all, the audience went absolutely crazy after she belted out “Mercy” on Wednesday’s show. “I felt very emotional just singing this song, and to have this reaction, I’m gonna replay this in my mind forever,” she stated through tears.

David Walliams and his potty mouth had to go – but it’s not enough to save Bgt
Image
The end came abruptly for David Walliams’ tenure on Britain’s Got Talent. The comedian and children’s author served as a judge on the ITV reality series for a decade, until vulgar remarks he had allegedly made about certain contestants came to light via The Guardian in November 2022. In one instance, Walliams referred to an elderly contestant as a “c**t” multiple times; in another, he described a female contestant as “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”. Walliams apologised at the time, stating that the insults were lifted from “private conversations with friends” and “were never intended to be shared”.

Plenty of other celebrities have committed more grievous sins than Walliams and held onto their jobs; it’s perhaps just the rebarbative optics of Walliams’s comments that made his role untenable. After the Bgt insult furore,...

Who Is Competing In The Masked Singer Battle Of The Saved?
Image
The Masked Singer season 9 introduced the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell, and now the three saved finalists will compete in The Battle of the Saved. That bell allowed the panelists to save contestants for the first time in the reality singing competition's history. Throughout the three rounds of the first part of the competition, the panelists, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger, made the choice to save a contestant from going home. This decision came after the top two contestants in each round sang in the Battle Royale.

During The Masked Singer season 9, three contestants were saved by the panelists: Medusa, Gargoyle, and Mantis. These three finalists will compete against each other during The Battle of the Saved. Whoever wins will then advance to the quarterfinals, during which they will face California Roll, Macaw, and UFO. Those four contestants will then compete for the Golden Mask trophy,...

‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identity of Polar Bear: Here’s Who It Is
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 3 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 1 on Fox.

“The Masked Singer” is like a jungle sometimes, it makes you wonder how you keep from going under. On Wednesday’s episode, rap legend Grandmaster Flash was trying not to be pushed, since he was so close to the edge. But despite trying not to, he lost his head.

Grandmaster Flash was the latest celebrity to be unmasked on Season 9 of “The Masked Singer,” revealed as the Polar Bear. The hip-hop pioneer sang “Rapture,” by Blondie. And there’s quite a connection there.

“That song was actually written for me,” he told Variety. “I remember Fab Five Freddy bringing [Blondie’s Debbie Harry] to one of my shows. This is way back in the day before I became famous. And she wrote this song of what she saw when...

Simon Cowell On A Possible ‘X-Factor’ Return And Working With Britney Spears Again
Image
Simon Cowell‘s got a very specific reason for why he’d be on board for another run of “The X Factor”, and if Britney Spears would rejoin him in that venture, even better.

When Et’s Will Marfuggi spoke to Cowell in November at the “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” finale red carpet event in Los Angeles, the famed TV personality explained why singing competitions like “AGT”, “The X Factor” and “American Idol” are absolutely necessary, even in a digital age where anyone can find stardom on platforms like YouTube.

In short, there’s a ton of undiscovered talent out there, and therein lies the purpose of the singing competitions and the driving point behind Cowell returning to “The X Factor”, which is reportedly in talks about a revival on NBC.

“When I did ‘Idol’, it was with the rationale there has to be a number of people who...

Lewis Capaldi teases Jamie Dornan over Fifty Shades with filthy jokes on Graham Norton Show
Lewis Capaldi
Lewis Capaldi made an appearance on The Graham Norton Show last night, where he delivered a series of typically filthy jokes.

The musician performed his latest hit “Pointless” on the BBC One show, on which Norton was interviewing guests Jamie Dornan, James Norton, Sophie Okonedo and Siobhán McSweeney.

After he played, Capaldi walked over to join the other stars on the sofa and give Dornan a lingering hug.

“I must apologise,” Capaldi joked, as he sat down. “In all the excitement, walking over, and with all the cheers, I might have farted slightly.”

To Dornan, Capaldi said: “I’m used to seeing you in Fifty Shades of Grey. So it’s weird seeing you here, without, like, a whip in your hand.”

After a pause, he then added: “And me without my cock in mine.”

Following laughter and applause from the studio audience and the guests (especially Derry Girls star...

Lewis Capaldi Responds to Being Mistaken For Susan Boyle: "Great Start to the New Year"
Image
Lewis Capaldi kicked off 2023 by being mistaken for viral British superstar Susan Boyle. But while they're both talented singers, Capaldi is a 26-year-old man, while Boyle is a 61-year-old woman.

The "Before You Go" singer shared his reaction to a fan's confusion on TikTok, writing, "great start to the new year," over a video of him sighing. He went on to caption his TikTok, "i dreamed a dream that ppl stopped telling me i looked like women in their 60s."

The case of mistaken identity began when a fan commented on one of Capaldi's TikToks after his New Year's Eve performance on BBC's Hogmanay celebrations. "Lewis, my dad saw you on TV and thought you were Susan Boyle," the fan wrote. Unlike Capaldi, many commenters saw the comparison as a compliment.

"Susan Boyle is an icon take the compliment," one person wrote. Another commented, "I think 2023 is your year...

Lewis Capaldi would like fans to stop comparing him to 60-year-old women
Lewis Capaldi
Lewis Capaldi is hoping that he will stop getting compared to older women after a fan’s dad mistook him for Susan Boyle.

The 26-year old made a Tiktok video about the comparison, in which a fan said their father had apparently mistaken Capaldi for the fellow Scottish singer.

“Lewis my dad saw you on TV and thought you were Susan Boyle,” the fan’s comment said.

Boyle, who is 61, rose to fame after shocking judges with her powerful voice on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.

Capaldi responded in a video in which he can be seen sighing and shaking his head to his song “Pointless”.

Capaldi also added text over the video which reads: “Great start to the new year”

Fantasia Review: Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break Tells a Hilarious, Ludicrous Quest for Revenge
A mother’s love can move mountains. It must in the case of Paul Dood (Tom Meeten) since he doesn’t really have anything else propelling him forward. Did he aspire to be a superstar? No. He merely asked his mom (June Watson’s Julie) if she thought he had what it took while watching an episode of Britain’s Got Talent. She of course said yes. She said he was “better than anyone else on that show.” Love is blind, though, and unwittingly creates lies—Paul is hardly a Susan Boyle with talent to spare if someone would simply give him a chance. He’s not even a William Hung earning views for second-hand embarrassment. He’s lucky to get three viewers per stream: Mum, Clemmie (Katherine Parkinson), and Bruce (Jarred Christmas).

Director Nick Gillespie and co-writers Matthew White and Brook Driver nevertheless introduce their lead with extreme confidence as...

Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK 2×01′ Review
Image
Two seasons of Drag Race being released simultaneously? Aren’t we just some extremely lucky drag fans! Now there has been some debate online about how frequent these seasons have been coming out, with All-Stars 6 rumoured to come out later this year; which will mark three seasons of Drag Race in one year which many people find an over-saturation of the TV market but for me, as it stands, two seasons of Drag Race shown at the same time is filling the void!

After the success of the first season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, it was only a matter of time before a second season was developed that showcased the fabulous queens from all across the UK! The opening episode paid homage to some of the most iconic moments from the previous season such as the infamous “a red wig and a silver dress… I don’t think!

Image
The finale of “Britain’s Got Talent” will feature performances from the combined companies of “Les Misérables – The Staged Concert,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Mary Poppins,” presented by renowned theater producer Cameron Mackintosh.

Ant and Dec will host while Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Ashley Banjo will be on judge duty.

The popular ITV show, created by Simon Cowell, took place this year largely without his physical participation as he broke his back following a bike accident early into its season.

The Oct 10. finale will feature five finalists chosen by the judges, including stand-up comedian Nabil Abdulrashid; variety act Steve Royle; dancing duo Aaron and Jasmine; magician Magical Bones; and comedy singer and performer Jon Courtenay. Complaints Cross 21,000 for Black Lives Matter-Inspired ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Routine, Judge Details Racist Abuse
Image
“Britain’s Got Talent” temporary judge Ashley Banjo has revealed he has been subject to racist abuse after his dance troupe Diversity performed a Black Lives Matter-inspired routine on the show.

In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday, Banjo thanked people for the “hundreds of thousands” of support messages, and addressed the issue of racism, noting he has received “everything from racial abuse to threats to just some really nasty stuff that I’m not going to give any more time than it deserves,” said Banjo.

“A lot of the negativity, the nastiness and the racism, shows exactly why this performance was needed and why this conversation that is now risen is necessary. Racism is very real. I knew it before and I definitely know it now,” said the presenter.

‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Draws Over 10,000 Complaints Around Black Lives Matter-Inspired Act
Image
A Black Lives Matter-inspired routine on “Britain’s Got Talent” by street dance troupe Diversity has resulted in 10,000 complaints from the public to U.K. media regulator Ofcom.

In the episode aired on Sept. 5, Diversity, led by popular U.K. presenter Ashley Banjo, performed a routine, part of which involved him lying on the floor while a fellow dancer dressed in police gear handcuffed him. Other dancers gathered around them with smartphones, simulating filming the incident.

The narration accompanying the dance included the lines, “What we thought we knew, some clearly didn’t. Black Lives Matter.” Diversity began the routine by taking a knee before the song “Black Lives Matter,” by Dax, played.

Complaints started pouring into Ofcom and quickly crossed 1,000. On Sept. 6, Banjo tweeted: “So much to say… But I’ll Just let the performance talk. Thousands of messages of Love and support – Thank you. For the thousands of messages...
