‘Bob’s Burgers’ Reveals Landmark 300th Episode Details, Plus New Halloween and Christmas Installments
Image
“Bob’s Burgers” is hitting its 300th episode, and the show is celebrating with several special episodes. For the landmark 300th, “Bob’s Burgers” will flash back to the very beginning of the Belchers’ restaurant, exec producer Loren Bouchard told fans Saturday during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

“In the present day Bob is really sweating whether or not to raise prices, and it’s killing him,” Bouchard said. “It sends us on this kind of series of flashbacks to to just what was going on when Bob and Linda started the restaurant.” In the episode, Bob is overwhelmed with cooking for all of his customers — constantly throwing up in the kitchen — while Linda is about to give birth.

Bouchard also revealed a new Halloween episode, in which Teddy takes a job in the store next door, a creepy cult store. Jamie Demetriou (“Fleabag”) guest stars. And a new...

From The Creator Of ‘The Jinx’ Comes Shocking Expose Of Alabama Prison Conditions: “The System Is Really In Free Fall” – Sundance
Image
The pulverized face of Steven Davis tells a terrifying story of conditions inside Alabama state prisons – his eyes swollen shut, his bruised flesh a deep purple.

“They beat him so badly his head was misshapen,” his mother, Sandy Ray, said at the time. “He looked like an alien.”

The “they” she referred to are prison guards at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Jefferson County, Al. Guards claimed Davis came at them with makeshift weapons, but that account is very much called into question in the documentary The Alabama Solution, directed by Emmy winner Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman (The Jinx part 2). The film, which is expected to air on HBO later this year, just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

“The prisons have been allowed to run essentially unmonitored,” Jarecki tells Deadline. “You have a prison camp where there may be 1,400 [inmates] living,...

‘The Alabama Solution’ Review: Andrew Jarecki’s Powerful Exposé of a Prison System Where Sanctified Lawlessness Is the Law
Image
“The Alabama Solution” is one of the most powerful exposés of the inhumanity of the American prison system I’ve ever seen. Directed by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman, the movie is a scalding portrait of life on the inside that exerts a grip worthy of a thriller. It’s an investigative documentary, filmed over five years, much of it in and around the Easterling Correctional Facility in Southeast Alabama, that doesn’t merely show us the chronic abuse of prisoners. It uncovers a culture of sanctified lawlessness. And the way “The Alabama Solution” reveals this, peeling away layers of a systemic cover-up, becomes as dramatic as the crimes it’s about.

The movie follows in the incendiary footsteps of documentaries like Ava DuVernay’s “13th” and Liz Garbus and Jonathan Stack’s “The Farm: Angola, USA” and Stanley Nelson’s “Attica,” building on their insights. And it infiltrates the...

‘The Alabama Solution’ Review: ‘Jinx’ Filmmakers’ New Doc Is the Bloody Sunday of Inmate Rights and Prison Reform
Image
“Incarcerated men defy the odds to expose a cover-up in America’s deadliest prison system,” reads the logline for the HBO-backed documentary “The Alabama Solution.” But that does not begin to describe this powerful and extremely necessary call-to-action.

Over the last decade, incarcerated men in Alabama prisons have been fighting to bring recognition to corruption and inhumane treatment. Thousands of men have died in prison, many at the hands of correctional officers and others of overdoses on drugs allegedly supplied by correctional officers. The death toll is so high that the Alabama Department of Corrections is widely regarded as the deadliest prison system in the United States. With the Adoc also supplying prison labor to private corporations like Walmart, Hyundai, and McDonald’s, accusations of modern-day slavery have also followed.

Veteran Emmy, Peabody and Sundance-winning filmmaker Andrew Jarecki, known for his 12-part HBO series “The Jinx” that led to Robert Durst...

This Minor Bobs Burgers Character Has the Saddest Backstory in the Show
Image
When Bob's Burgers first hit screens in 2011, it was clear that the show wanted to do something different. While its competitors, like Family Guy and The Simpsons, wanted to show a more bleak side of family life, Bob's Burgers charmed its audience with its adorable domestics. The Belcher family is built on love, and that's what makes them one of the best-animated tribes on television.

Yet, not every character is as cheerful as the Belchers. Some characters act as contrasts to the family, proving to the audience that sadness and injustice still reside in this colorful fictional world. Regular Sized Rudy may seem like an ordinary fourth grader, but hidden beneath the surface is a very sad little boy who still has the ability to tug on the viewers' heartstrings.

Rudys Family Troubles Isolate Him From Others

Rudy makes his first appearance on the show in Season 3, Episode 22, "Carpe Museum,...

Animated programming is having quite a moment right now, with more offerings than ever that encompass all genres and are for all types of audiences. The creatives behind five of the biggest contenders for Emmys in animation joined our recent Meet the Experts panel. They included shows about a class struggle based on a popular video game, a workplace spy-comedy, an anthology set in a world of manufactured superheroes, a musical set against a New York landmark and an exploration of what inspired people currently working as animators.

Steven Davis (‘Central Park’) explains how Emmy Raver-Lampman took over for Kristen Bell [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
“Central Park” had a huge task for its second season with Emmy Raver-Lampman taking over for the voice of Molly Tillerman from Kristen Bell, who had voice the character in the first season. Showrunner Steven Davis explains that any apprehension about whether she would rise to the occasion were quickly put to bed. “She started with a song and it’s called, ‘Paint the World.’ It’s the very first time we all heard her voice come out and it was, this is cheesy, but there were tears literally shed. It’s such a sweet song and she just floored us,” he tells Gold Derby during our Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel (watch the exclusive video interview above).
