Netflix Renews 'Long Story Short' Despite Season One Not Being Out Yet
Image
Show renewals are hard to get nowadays. Several factors influence a series' chances of growth. Many networks and streamers look for high audience viewership, how much the show gains traction in the media, especially on social apps, the financial side (how costly it is to make the show), etc. Whatever doesn't yield a return on its investment gets the "doomed" canceled tag. Yet, there are times a show hears the sweet sounds of renewal, even before season 1 becomes available. Netflixjust made the rare decision to renew Raphael Matthew Bob-Waksberg's upcoming animated comedy, Long Story Short, weeks before its users can stream the debut season.

It seems like the streamer believes it'll be love at first sight with Netflix users and the new animation, which is set to premiere on August 22, 2025. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season 1 will have 10 episodes, and they'll be thirty minutes long each. News of the...

3 new Netflix shows to watch (and 2 to skip) in August 2025
Image
We have officially passed the halfway point of the year, and while some super popular Netflix shows have already been released, the best and biggest are still yet to come. The summer has been heated up by the likes of Squid Game, The Waterfront, and Untamed, but a certain someone we all know and love is about to make sure we're not having too much fun in August 2025.

After almost three years since its massive debut, Wednesday returns with its highly anticipated second season. Wednesday Addams will put a screeching halt to all of our summer fun. Well, she'll at least try because we're going to have a blast with these new episodes, but we can't make any guarantees that we will be all dark and gloomy just like she is!

In addition to Wednesday's triumphant comeback in August, Netflix brings back another fan-favorite teen series at the end of the month,...

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson Reveal How They Balanced Friendship and Work on ‘Broad City’
Image
Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson played best friends on their Comedy Central series Broad City for five seasons, though they recently revealed that they had to set boundaries while filming the show.

Since they were spending so much time together during the show’s production schedule, Glazer and Jacobson explained that they had to make sure to give each other space when needed. “We didn’t, like, hang out. I think when we were doing it, we would be like, ‘See you on Monday,'” Jacobson recalled on Tuesday’s episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

“We weren’t like hanging out as friends during Broad City. We couldn’t,” Glazer added.

Jacobson explained that the decision to set boundaries wasn’t personal. “It was just like, after 12, 14 hours of Monday through Friday, we were like, ‘Let’s not do dinner on Saturday,'” she said.

Earlier in the conversation,...

The Mastermind Behind 'BoJack Horseman' Returns With a Delightfully Dysfunctional New Teaser
Image
Raphael Bob-Waksberg has a new, dysfunctional family to introduce with the first teaser for his upcoming animated series Long Story Short. Set to premiere on August 22, the show is the latest passion project from the BoJack Horseman creator, following the lives of the three Schwooper siblings as they grow up, navigate their troubles together, and unpack their generational trauma. Viewers will watch them from childhood to adulthood, but as the footage shows, age doesn't necessarily make them any more mature. From family car trips to dinners and other little moments with each other, the ten-episode run promises to pack their lives with the signature blend of comedy and grounded drama that Bob-Waksberg is known for.

The teaser flashes between the Schwoopers as kids and adults, albeit all within the same confined space of the back of the family car. They get into the typical sibling bickering about taking up too...

The '90s Tom Hanks Movie That Spawned Two Canceled TV Shows
Image
"Forrest Gump" and "The Green Mile" often rank high on the list of people's favorite Tom Hanks movies, but real ones know that "A League of Their Own" deserves the true top spot. With its charming, funny, and often hard-hitting script, this was the film that signaled a shift in Hanks' movie career. Before 1992, he mainly starred in comedies; after '92, he was more likely to star in serious, Oscar-worthy projects. It's tough for some actors to make that transition, but it helps when the movie designed to prove your dramatic talents is as strong as this one.

"A League of Their Own" was a critical success and an instant box office hit, one that was added to the National Film Archive in 2012 for its cultural importance. Most fans of the film today are also aware of the 2022 Prime Video reboot TV series "A League of Their Own," which was...

Netflix's Underrated Crime Drama Starring 'Friends' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond' Icons Has Its Season 2 Fate Revealed

As the saying goes, No Good Deed goes unpunished. Amid a day when the cancellation axe has already cut down the comedic murder-mystery The Residence and the medical procedural Pulse, Netflix is also hitting the pause button on its darkly comedic anthology series, according to Deadline. The show, which featured a bevy of talent led by Lisa Kudrow and Linda Cardellini, has been waiting for an update since its first season dropped back in December, and it was becoming clear that the news would not be good when it arrived. Fortunately, there is a ray of hope as, while there are currently no plans for a sophomore outing, sources have said that a second season is possible in the future with a new cast and an entirely new story.

Part of the reason for the indefinite pause likely came down to the lukewarm reception to the series from audiences. Although...

The third and final season of The Comeback heads to production this summer for a 2026 HBO and HBO Max debut. In The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish, an ex-a-list celebrity attempting to rekindle the flame of her once prominent acting career with nothing but a camera crew and some determination.

‘BoJack Horseman’ Creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg on Ditching Satire for Sincerity in ‘Long Story Short’
Image
Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the man broadly credited with reinventing animation with his 6-season, three-time Emmy-nominated Netflix hit Bojack Horseman, is back with more family trauma, but no taking animals, in Long Story Short.

The new Netflix animated series, which Bob-Waksberg premiered at the Annecy international animation film festival on Thursday, follows the trials and tribulations, or as Bob-Waksberg puts it, the “small t traumas,” of the Schwoopers, a fairly ordinary Jewish family.

“On one hand, it is an animated family comedy like Bob’s Burgers or King of the Hill, that kind of show, we have two parents, three kids,” he said, speaking at Annecy ahead of the series’ world premiere. “But the way we’re telling stories is a little different, in that we’re traveling back and forth through time. Not by using a time machine, just in the way we’re telling stories. So in the first episode, we...

“Long Story Short” cuts to the point. Coming from “BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, it’s without the parody dressing “BoJack Horseman” presents, instead getting closer to the heart of human conflict and comedy.

Screening at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival this week, the first episode of the “BoJack” creator’s latest animated Netflix series sees Avi (Ben Feldman) bring his new girlfriend Jennifer (Abbi Jacobson) to meet his family ahead of his little brother Yoshi’s (Max Greenfield) Bat Mitzvah. It drowns you in overlapping dialogue, religious anxiety, and eccentric family members, immediately distancing itself from Waksberg’s past work. The series then follows the Jewish family through the years, their hopes, and disappointments.

“I was thinking about family, time, and identity,” Waksberg told IndieWire at Annecy. “In the writers room, I wrote those up on a board, like this is what the show is about. More specifically,...

‘BoJack Horseman’ Creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg On His Netflix Series ‘Long Story Short’ And Why Networks & Studios “Should Be A Little More Courageous”
Image
BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg wishes the networks and studios would be “a little more courageous” on adult animation.

Noting today’s “industry contraction,” Bob-Waksberg said decisions by the gatekeepers are “being made out of fear” in the current landscape, which he “empathizes” with.

“I feel like there are a lot of artists and writers who want to do exciting things and kind of push the edges of what adult animation can be,” he told Deadline at Annecy. “I think it’s hard. You’d always rather take a safe bet than a riskier bet, but I feel there is more room in adult animation to be telling more stories than we currently are.”

Bob-Waksberg, whose 10-year-old Netflix hit BoJack Horseman redefined adult animation, noted that the contraction has hit genres across the board, leading to risk-aversion everywhere.

He was speaking a day after Adventure Time showrunner Adam Muto said “idiosyncratic voices” are getting lost,...
