Exclusive: Brillstein Entertainment Partners is expanding its comedy ranks, adding Alex Goodman, Rachel Helix and Turner Byfuglin as managers.

The three join Brillstein from Levity Entertainment Group. Goodman and Helix had been at Levity for about a decade; Helix spent her entire tenure there as a manger, Goodman was promoted to manager seven years ago. Both worked with Turner who was a coordinator at Levity and will become a manager at Brillstein.

Goodman, Helix and Byfuglin all specialize in comedy, representing more than 30 comedic multi-hyphenates with a focus on comedy touring and other live entertainment.

That’s the premise behind Roots of Comedy, a six-part docuseries that premiered on PBS last week. Veteran comedian Jesus Trejo travels the U.S. to hang with up-and-coming comics from every corner of the country, looking at our nation through the lens of stand-up. “I remember being a kid and memorizing what you would call jokey jokes. My mom used to watch Sábado Gigante with Don Francisco, one of the longest-running shows in the world. Imagine a Tonight Show type of template, but it would run for three hours. One of the segments were these joke tellers, they were called monologues. They would tell jokey jokes, and I used to memorize them.

Exclusive: Soapstone Comedy Presents, a VR comedy series from Meta and The Soapstone Comedy Club, is set to premiere Thursday, May 16 in Meta Horizon Worlds.

The series will include six immersive comedy shows debuting monthly through October at The Soapstone Comedy Club in Hanalei Bay. The full season line-up of comedian headliners who come to life as avatars kicks off with Jay Pharoah on May 16, followed by Pete Holmes on June 13, Natasha Leggero on July 11, Ron Funches on August 8, Jesus Trejo on September 5, and closes out with Cristela Alonzo on October 3. “Roots of Comedy with Jesus Trejo,” a new comedy-documentary series hailing from PBS SoCal, is slated to start streaming for free on the PBS app and PBS.org on May 24.

The series follows Mexican American comedian and host Jesus Trejo as he embarks on a journey to tell the “stories behind the laughs,” revealing how comedy traces back to the roots of community.

Trejo visits six U.S. regions including Los Angeles, Denver and Portland, where he meets with six rising comedians. The series is co-produced for PBS by PBS SoCal, Calico and the National Multicultural Alliance. Trejo and Juan Devis executive produce along with Calico’s Danny Lee and Justin Yungfleisch as well as PBS SoCal chief content officer Tamara Gould. The series is directed by Donny Jackson. Wendy Llinás is the executive in charge for PBS.

The distributor of YouTube’s hottest interview show has uploaded the second Hot Ones Holiday Extravaganza, which features Will Ferrell as its special guest.

Comedy Central will revisit the top moments from its celebrity roast specials with Hall of Fame: Top 100 Roast Moments, a five-night event hosted by Nikki Glaser.

Starting on Monday Mar. 29 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt, Hall of Fame: Top 100 Roast Moments is a countdown featuring the Roasts’ “best burns.” The week-long event will revisit the most scorching quips given to past roastees including Alec Baldwin, Justin Bieber, James Franco, Bruce Willis and Rob Lowe.

Producers of the three-day event held in San Antonio, Texas in late February, have been counting their blessings as they put the finishing touches on an hourlong special derived that premieres today on HBO Max.

“Ha Comedy Festival: The Art of Comedy” features short sets from comedians Gina Brillon, David del Rosario, Carmen Lynch, Monique Marvez, Pedro Salinas, Jesus Trejo and Mark Viera. Anjelah Johnson serves as emcee for the hour, which includes guest appearances from actors Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria and Danny Trejo.

The festival and the HBO Max special are important building blocks for New Cadence Productions, the cotent venture launched last year by veteran writer-producer Jeff Valdez and several partners, including former U.S. West CEO Sol Trujillo.

The non-profit’s in-house production company Aarp Studios premiered the six-episode “Date My Grandma” on its YouTube channel last year. Don Rickles’ final project before he passed away in 2017 was Aarp’s “Dinner With Don,” a web talk show in which the legendary comedian interviewed his famous friends, including Robert De Niro, Billy Crystal, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Poehler and Marissa Tomei.

Aarp Studios is now officially in the movie business with its first feature film “Care to Laugh,” a documentary that follows comedian Jesus Trejo as he builds his comedy career while taking care of his elderly parents. The newly launched Ha comedy festival backed by WarnerMedia and New Cadence Productions has set its dates, talent lineup and plans for a special to air on HBO Max.

The festival, to be held Feb. 21-23 in San Antonio, Texas, is designed as a showcase for Latinx comedians. It’s part of a first-look development pact that New Cadence signed with WarnerMedia last year. The hope is that the festival will turn into a source of comedy programming for HBO Max and other WarnerMedia outlets.

Rising stars Mark Viera, Gina Brillon, Carmen Lynch, Carlos Alazraqui, Monique Marvez and Jesus Trejo are set to appear in the HBO Max special, to be recorded on the final night of the festival. Anjelah Johnson will host.
