DC is Repeating Its Disastrous 'Flashpoint' - With The 1 Hero Who Can Make It Even Worse
Image
Flashpoint delivered one of the darkest and most brutal versions of the DC Universe ever put to page, reimagining heroes like the Flash and Batman in grim, unthinkable ways. It served as a powerful ‘what-if’ worst-case scenario. But now, DC is proving that things can get even worse with the announcement of their next timeline-shattering event: Impulsepoint.

The Flash #26 by Mark Waid and Christopher Cantwell, with art by Vasco Georgiev, will see Wally West’s Flash and Bart Allen’s Impulse take center stage during the Flash-centric chapter in DC’s upcoming K.O. event.

As Scott Snyder, one of the architects behind the event, describes it, “DC K.O. [will be] a knock-down, drag-out fight between all your favorite DC super heroes in a cosmic tournament to save the universe from Darkseid.” Amid this chaos, Bart Allen will propose a catastrophic reality reset dubbed Impulsepoint.

Javi Fernández (Batman & Robin, King Spawn) will draw the main series that is being described as a slugfest to end all slugfests.

“DC K.O. is a knock-down, drag-out fight between all your favorite DC super heroes in a cosmic tournament to save the universe from Darkseid,” said Snyder in a statement.

Why Tony Stark’s Heroism In The MCU Was Fueled More By Ego Than Altruism—The Truth Behind Iron Man’s Legacy
Image
The Dark Side of Tony Stark’s MCU Legacy: Genius, Ego, and the Illusion of Heroism (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Tony Stark didn’t just build a suit of armor; he built a legacy. But the deeper you dig into it, the shinier that red-and-gold surface looked only because it was covering up a whole lot of ego. Stark’s journey across the MCU and comics was often framed as redemption. But beneath the flashy hero act and witty one-liners, his actions screamed one thing louder than anything else: “I know best”. His charm worked like a mask.

It bought him goodwill, but time and again, his arrogance left others to clean up the mess. In Christopher Cantwell and Cafu’s Iron Man series, the mask slipped hard. This wasn’t just classic Stark bravado, this was a man floating above New York City, literally and figuratively, declaring, “I don’t...

Al Pacino and Dan Stevens Are Priests in Exorcism True Story for ‘The Ritual’ Trailer
Image
Dan Stevens, who has become synonymous with indie horror, is paired with icon Al Pacino for the ultimate exorcism film, “The Ritual.” The duo star as two priests who “face the ultimate test of faith,” as the logline teases. The film is based on the true story that was captured in 1935 book “Begone Satan!” about a Church-sanctioned exorcism. The original account of the events went on to inspire “The Exorcist” book and William Friedkin’s famed 1973 film that later spurred a franchise.

The official synopsis for “The Ritual” reads: “When the Church sanctions the exorcism of Emma Schmidt (Abigail Cowan), two priests — divided by doubt — must confront a force beyond comprehension… and their own faith.” Ashley Greene and Patricia Heaton co-star.

Pacino recently told Entertainment Weekly that after starring in “The Ritual,” he can finally watch Friedkin’s “The Exorcist.” Pacino worked with the late auteur on “Cruising,” which was...

Out Of Alcatraz Is A Crime Comic Straight Out Of A Hitchcock Film [Exclusive Preview]
Image
Alcatraz has now been a museum for longer than it was ever a prison, but it remains the most famous prison in pop culture. The very name "Alcatraz" connotes an inescapable prison — except three men did escape in 1962, a year before the prison closed.

These were Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin, who tried to row to freedom on the shore. Authorities ultimately concluded that the escapees' raft never made it to land and they drowned, but with no bodies, imaginations have run wild about their fates. The new comic "Out Of Alcatraz" by writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Tyler Crook will run with the premise that the men did make it to land, but did they ever find freedom? Oni Press has shared an exclusive preview of "Out of Alcatraz" #1 with /Film (via Superfan Promo), including three previously unseen pages. These might help shed some light on that question.

Wonder Woman Has a Lot of Friends, But DC Is Putting All Eyes on Her Connection With... Plastic Man?

Warning: Spoilers for Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2023) #20 and Plastic Man No More! (2024) ahead!

When readers imagine the ideal partner for a Wonder Woman team-up, their minds might immediately go to some of DC's most powerful figures – rather than the perpetual goof-up that is Plastic Man. Phil Coulson Returned to Marvel Continuity in 2024, Replacing a Major Marvel God
Image
2024 was the biggest year for Marvel's Phil Coulson since his death in 2012's The Avengers. That's not just because he was resurrection from death, but because he gained immense cosmic power, literally replacing a god in Marvel canon. Nobody guessed that 2024 would transform Phil Coulson, let alone make him the godlike leader of Marvel's most powerful team.

2024 saw a major upheaval in the lore surrounding the Infinity Stones, as Thanos revealed he had created a new 'Death Stone.' However, things really changed when the Stone escaped its creator, resurrecting and empowering former Shield agent Phil Coulson. Not only did this give Coulson major new powers, but it forced him to replace Death, becoming Marvel's new Grim Reaper.

The Death Stone was created when Thanos bound the entity known as Death (and often manifesting as his cosmic love 'Lady Death') to an artificial Infinity Stone. Now that the...

Justice League Admits Its Most Indestructible Member Has a Hilariously Simple Weakness

Batman is renowned for the contingency plans he's devised over the years to neutralize Justice League members should they ever go rogue. While some of these plans are more elaborate than others, DC has just revealed a laughably simple weakness for one of the League's most invulnerable members—a vulnerability the Dark Knight could easily exploit with nothing more than a quick trip to the grocery store.

Given that the science supports this non-lethal method of neutralization, it’s safe to say Batman would eagerly add it to his list of contingency plans for Plastic Man.

Star Trek Is Ready to Embark on a Klingon Redemption Story No One Saw Coming, And I'm Not Sure It Will Work Out

Idw Publishing's rebooted line of Star Trek comics turned the cloned Klingon Emperor Kahless into its first major antagonist, as he unleashed havoc upon the galaxy in his quest to become a god. Now, Trek is boldly going to turn Kahless back into a hero – and though I have to admit I'm skeptical about the attempt, if the series manages to pull it off, it's going to be awesome.

The synopsis for Star Trek #30 – written by Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing, with art Travis Mercer – teases a redemption story for Kahless, who "must decide what Klingon honor really means." This comes as a major surprise to many fans, as the character's fall from grace in the ongoing series' first year was swift and severe, and had Universe-altering consequences.

As a reader, I've come to trust Trek's creative team, and so I am excited by this narrative decision, yet I have...

Later in Worf’s tenure, during the height of the Dominion War, he and O’Brien made a puzzling bet, especially considering O’Brien’s heritage. Now, years later, the matter has been settled, as seen in Star Trek: Defiant #21.

Star Trek: Defiant #21, written by Christopher Cantwell and drawn by Angel Unzueta, is the final part of the “Stars of Home” storyline, which saw Worf and his crew turn back an entire Romulan invasion. They had a little help from O’Brien and another Deep Space Nine stalwart: Julian Bashir. After the dust settles, Worf presents O’Brien with a bottle of scotch, referencing a bet they made years prior.

Star Trek Shares Spock's True Feelings About Worf, Leaving Us All in Tears
Image
Idw's line of ongoing Star Trek comics have already made many stellar contributions to the franchise's sprawling lore, but perhaps its most touching thread has been the deepening of Spock and Worf's friendship – as Spock openly affirms that the Klingon is his last living friend in the latest issue of the Defiant series.

Star Trek: Defiant #21 – written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Angel Unzueta – solidifies the connection between two of Trek’s most beloved characters, with Spock going as far as to say their relationship is “no less strong” than the one between him and his oldest allies.

The development of this bond across multiple generations of Trek has been pivotal to making Defiant a definitive portrayal of both Worf and Spock – a duo fans didn’t realize they needed until it was given to them.

As A Long-Lived Vulcan, Spock Has Had Many Friendships Come And Go – Now,...

This Apocalyptic Dark Fantasy Comic Reimagines A Classic Disney Fairy Tale
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Ah, the public domain. It's what allows reinterpretations of classical stories in radically new contexts, hence the recent wave of slasher films starring children's characters like Winnie the Pooh. Twisting fairy tales is not only the domain of movies, though.

See the comic "Briar" — written by Christopher Cantwell, drawn by Germán García, and published by Boom! Studios. The comic is "Sleeping Beauty" as dark fantasy, not the whimsical and romantic kind. "Sleeping Beauty" is a tale that goes back to the 1300s, but "Briar" might be its most violent and irreverent retelling. The comic's title is taken from Briar Rose, the name the Brothers Grimm gave the Princess and which Disney then used in its animated adaptation.

The comic has been advertised as "What if Sleeping Beauty never got her happily ever after?" Here, the prince never bestowed true love's kiss,...

Robin has officially found Batmans match within the Justice League, but while this might sound like a compliment to the mystery hero, its far from one. This comparison has nothing to do with their heroics and everything to do with their parenting skillsone of the few areas in the DC Universe where the Dark Knight has repeatedly fallen short.

Within the Justice League, Plastic Man is legendary for his unparalleled healing factora power that makes him nearly unkillable, virtually immortal, and capable of regenerating even severed limbs. I Can't Believe It Either, But Star Trek Is Steadily Becoming the Gold Standard For Ambitious Comic Book Storytelling
Image
As a fan of Star Trek in general, with a particular soft spot for Star Trek comics, I have considered Idw Publishing's current ongoing run a true renaissance for the franchise but now, I think it has started to take a step even beyond that, toward becoming a legitimate standard-bearer for ambitious comic book storytelling using classic franchise IP.

The franchise is steadily building toward next year's major storytelling event, Lore War, which is set to be the culmination of over two years of patiently plotted storytelling, across two titles, Star Trek written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing and Christopher Cantwell's Star Trek: Defiant.

I have been steadily more impressed with both series as they have progressed; like most readers, I thought the sweeping Day of Blood storyline was impressive enough, but as it turns out, it was just the first act in an even more sprawling saga.

I Can't Believe the Dark Change DC Just Made to a Justice League Icon's Power (& It's Permanent!)
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Wonder Woman #13Of all the Justice League's heroes, I've always been particularly fond of Plastic Man and Elongated Man due to the zaniness of their powers. Their rubber-like abilities appear identical on the surface, but they have plenty of differences, and that has never been more apparent than now. ‘Speak No Evil’ Star Mackenzie Davis Breaks Down the Film’s ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ Reunion
Image
A decade ago, Mackenzie Davis’ breakout role as Cameron Howe on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire had just finished airing as part of the series’ well received but criminally underseen first season. Fortunately for Halt, the network’s flagship shows, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, had mostly concluded their decorated runs at that point, and AMC, in the interest of creating new critical darlings, decided to invest further in Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers’ under-viewed drama series, something that’s a rarity in this day and age of increasingly impatient networks, studios and streamers.

Davis played a gifted young computer programmer who was at the forefront of the personal computing and internet revolutions in the ’80s and ’90s, and throughout the rest of the series, she had an off-and-on romantic relationship with Lee Pace’s visionary entrepreneur, Joe MacMillan. Alongside their initially married friends and intermittent business partners,...
