Beekeeper 2 Filming Update: Director Tjahjanto Shares Exciting Details
Image
The sequel to Jason Statham’s $162 million hit action movie gets an update from the director, and it’s exciting news.

One of worldwide cinema’s most bankable stars, Statham in 2025 has added another hit movie to his list of successes, as the gritty David Ayer-directed A Working Man grossed $100 million on a budget of $40 million.

Statham’s bruising thriller about a former commando seeking to rescue a friend’s kidnapped daughter has also been a hit on streaming. That’s no surprise, as Statham is just as popular on services like Netflix and Prime Video as he is in theaters around the globe.

2026 will see Statham back in theaters with Mutiny, an action thriller about a man wrongfully accused of murder, who goes looking for the real killer. Statham is also set to return in the sequel to his big 2024 hit, which has nabbed The Night Comes For Us...

The first reactions to Nobody 2 hit social media
Bob Odenkirk returns as suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell in the new chapter to the hit 2021 bare-knuckle action-thriller Nobody. The first film opened at number one at the U.S. box office upon its release. Can the second follow suit? Universal has just screened the fun-filled Nobody 2 for an audience. The follow-up to the original film that put a twist on the action genre has now twisted things even further as it plays out surprisingly like a violent send-up of National Lampoon’s Vacation. The reactions have hit social media.

Stay tuned for our full review coming soon, but until then, we posted our first reaction on the official JoBlo account that stated, “Our Eic @cbumbray saw #Nobody2 last week and it’s a total blast. Hyper violent, gory, and tons of fun. The great @mrbobodenkirk channels his inner Jackie Chan during one of the movie’s signature action sequences,...

Jason Statham at an event for The Beekeeper (2024)
The Beekeeper 2: Director Timo Tjahjanto offers a promising update
Jason Statham at an event for The Beekeeper (2024)
Jason Statham movies tend to be a variation of the same thing over and over (and “variation” might be quite generous). But he has found his fanbase in a way that so few modern action stars have. For those who have faced Statham burnout, did we really need another movie about kicking ass in the name of vengeance? As it turned out, The Beekeeper was actually pretty damn good – so where’s that sequel?

Timo Tjahjanto – who will be taking over directing duties from David Ayer – said that he’s officially underway figuring out where to shoot The Beekeeper sequel. He also discussed what draws him to the story. “I was, literally two days ago, I was in London scouting for locations [for Beekeeper 2], and now I’m here in LA, but I love…I can’t wait, to be honest, because, you know, Beekeeper is obviously one of those movies where...

30 Best Action Movies Ever: A Definitive History from Samurai to Super Spies
Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, N.T. Rama Rao Jr., and Ram Charan in RRR (2022)
The action film is our modern campfire story, a universal language spoken in shattered glass and exquisitely choreographed fisticuffs. Its appeal is primal, tapping into a shared human fascination with kinetic energy and high-stakes problem-solving. But in a genre so saturated with spectacle, a crucial question emerges: What makes a good action movie truly immortal? What separates a fleeting sugar rush of adrenaline from a film that endures?

This list is an attempt to answer that, an exploration of the best action movies guided by a clear set of action movie criteria.

First, there must be character-driven action. The violence isn’t just noise; it’s narrative. Every punch is a paragraph, every chase scene a chapter in a desperate protagonist’s story. The chaos must have a human anchor. This is tied directly to the necessity of tangible stakes, where the threat feels crushingly real, whether it’s the...

Nobody Was A Modest Pandemic Box Office Hit, But Can The Sequel Succeed?
Image
2021 was a very bizarre year for the movie business. The box office was on straight-up life support after the 2020 shutdowns brought on by the pandemic. But Hollywood did try to bring audiences back to theaters, with blockbusters like "Godzilla vs. Kong" welcoming people back in a meaningful way. Then there were smaller movies like Universal's action/comedy "Nobody," which became a decent little hit for the studio, particularly while grading on the pandemic curve. Now, four years later, Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul") is back as Hutch in "Nobody 2." The question is, can the sequel succeed on its own terms in a radically different marketplace?

"Nobody 2" hits theaters next weekend and is currently looking at an opening in the $11 to $16 million range domestically, per Box Office Theory. While that's not exactly lighting the charts on fire, the original opened to a mere $6.8 million in North America before...

Jason Statham Action Thriller 'Mutiny' Suffers Release Date Delay
Image
Action and Jason Statham fans just got some bad news. The genre icon’s upcoming thriller has now been delayed, meaning we will all have to wait a little longer to see The Stath once again ply his action hero trade and put his particular set of skills to good use.

Mutinysees Statham in the role as both star and producer as he joins forces with the director behind 2023’s acclaimed Gerard Butler-led action outing Plane, Jean-François Richet. Led by Jason Statham, the rest of the Mutiny cast includes Peaky Blinders and Malignant star Annabelle Wallis and Wrath of Man and The Gentlemen’s Jason Wong, as well as Roland Møller, Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester.

While Mutiny was originally scheduled to land in theaters next year on January 9, 2026, Lionsgate has now revealed (via Variety), that the action outing will now hit the big screen in summer 2026 instead, with...

Jason Statham's Wildly Underrated Sleeper Action Flick Quietly Dominates the Streaming Charts 1 Year Later
Image
Streaming audiences cannot get enough of Jason Statham. At any given time, the actor has at least one or two movies dominating the streaming charts.

According to FlixPatrol, as of Aug. 4, The Beekeeper is ranked No. 10 on MGM+'s Top 10 in the United States, down two spots from the day before. The 2024 action movie has been bouncing between the last few spots on the streamer's Top 10 list for the past week, as Statham fans discover (or rediscover) the well-received David Ayer-directed hit. This isn't the first time that The Beekeeper has performed well on an Amazon-owned streaming service, as the action movie was also frequently in the Top 10 on Prime Video last month.

Unlike Amazon MGM Studios' recent action movie Heads of State, which went straight to Prime Video, The Beekeeper was given a theatrical release, which paid off big time for the studio, as it became a sleeper hit,...

Jason Statham’s 92% Rt John Wick Replacement Picks Up Momentum on Global Streaming Charts
Image
Jason Statham’s next action movie gets closer by the day, but ahead of its arrival in theaters, one of his more recent classics is gaining steam on streaming charts. Statham stars alongside Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) inThe Beekeeper, the 2024 John Wick-esque action thriller following a man pulled out of retirement to search for vengeance after someone close to him dies. The Beekeeper is currently streaming on Prime Video in the United States and globally, where it remains one of the most popular movies in countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, and Lebanon. The film grossed $162 million against a $40 million budget, following its strong reception with scores of 71% from critics and 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Beekeeper immediately drew comparisons to Keanu Reeves’ first outing as John Wick upon release. Although a sequel to the film is in the works,...

The 7 Best Hidden Gems on Netflix in August
Image
Netflix has so finely tuned its production pipeline over the years that the streamer has gotten into the routine of adding new TV and film originals to its platform every week. It has, consequently, become increasingly common for certain movies and shows to fall through the cracks of Netflix’s content library. Some of the hidden gems streaming on Netflix right now include Adam Sandler‘s most underrated ’90s comedy, a disappointingly unloved British romance and an Indonesian action movie that cuts like a recently sharpened samurai sword.

Here are the seven best hidden gems streaming on Netflix in August.

“Big Daddy” (Sony Pictures Releasing) “Big Daddy” (1999)

“Big Daddy” is the film that taught an entire generation that McDonald’s transitions from breakfast to lunch at 10:30 a.m. — and not a minute later than that. It is also the most underrated of star Adam Sandler’s beloved 1990s comedies. He...

Jason Statham's $529M Game-Changing Jaws Replacement Movie Is Blowing Up on Streaming
Image
Actor Jason Statham is no stranger to starring in movies that put his characters into perilous situations. In 2018, Statham led a creature feature that drew comparisons to Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film, Jaws.

The Meg, which dropped on HBO Max in Jul., is now climbing up the streaming charts, according to FlixPatrol. The movie, which also stars Bingbing Li (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Rainn Wilson (The Office), and Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black), is in the No. 7 spot in HBO’s Top 10 Movies in the U.S. It’s ahead of I Love You Forever, A Minecraft Movie, and Fahrenheit 451 on the platform.

Despite its 47% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and 44% audience score,The Meg was a massive success, earning $529 million against a budget of around $130 million. It also spawned the 2023 sequel Meg 2: The Trench. Statham stars in The Meg as deep-sea diver Jonas Taylor. Jonas is hired...

Bob Odenkirk’s Hilarious and Brutal Take on Which Childhood Icons He’d Fight — and Who’s Off Limits
Image
At San Diego Comic-Con, Bob Odenkirk sat down with IGN to talk about his upcoming movie Nobody 2. During their chat, he shared some pretty wild and funny thoughts about which childhood TV and movie characters he would want to fight, and who he wouldn’t dare touch.

Odenkirk didn’t hold back. About The Brady Bunch, he said, “I would happily kill them, they don’t even have to do anything. Not the littlest girl I wouldn’t hurt, it’s not her fault she’s a Brady.” So, the youngest Brady is off limits, but the rest?

Not so much. Then he went after Alvin and the Chipmunks, saying he’d “step on them and crush them under my foot. You have to hear the bones and the gush inside their body, you’re gonna cheer.” That’s a pretty brutal mental image.

When it came to Home Alone,...

Bob Odenkirk’s Presents Hilariously Brutal Take on Which Childhood Icons He’d Fight—and Who’s Untouchable
Image
At San Diego Comic-Con, Bob Odenkirk sat down with IGN to talk about his new movie Nobody 2, and the conversation took a fun and wild turn when he started joking about which famous characters he’d be willing to fight, and which ones he wouldn’t.

Odenkirk didn’t hold back. He said he wouldn’t hesitate to take on The Brady Bunch. “I would happily kill them, they don’t even have to do anything. Not the littlest girl I wouldn’t hurt, it’s not her fault she’s a Brady.”

He even went after Alvin and the Chipmunks, imagining stepping on them and crushing them with a vivid description: “You have to hear the bones and the gush inside their body, you’re gonna cheer.”

But when it came to Macaulay Culkin’s character from Home Alone, Odenkirk drew the line. “I’m not going to hurt Kevin.

Bob Odenkirk Teases the Fate of His John Wick-Like Action Hero After 'Nobody 2' [Exclusive]
Image
Bob Odenkirk is about to take a second stab at action stardom with Nobody 2, and if he has his way, it won't be the last time he plays Hutch Mansell. The Better Call Saul star wants to do multiple entries in the action franchise. He discussed it during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, hosted by Collider's Steve Weintraub.

While Hutch has tried to leave his days as a government-sponsored murder machine behind him, Odenkirk has plenty of ideas about getting him back into action while balancing his life with his family, and the film's balance of fantasy and reality:

"I somewhat boldly state that I think there could be four. I have ideas about where the character goes. The core sort of issue, which is, can you maintain, how can you live a civilized life, a family life, and then vent your worst rages on the world?...

'Nobody 2' Footage Has Bob Odenkirk Paying Tribute to Jackie Chan at Collider's Exclusive Sdcc Panel
Image
Bob Odenkirk is only a few short weeks away from finally stepping back into the ass-kicking shoes of Hutch Mansell for Nobody 2. Before he sets off for his violent vacation in theaters, however, he swung by San Diego Comic-Con for a conversation with Steve Weintraub at Collider's Inside Hollywood panel. While the Better Call Saul star was there delivering some behind-the-scenes stories from his impressive career, we were also able to debut a convention-exclusive sneak peek at the carnage his workaholic assassin will be caught in during his attempts to have a normal family outing. Collider's Samantha Coley was in attendance, describing an action-packed and hilarious homage to the movies of Jackie Chan that's filled to the brim with fun gags.

In the lengthy sequence, Hutch sends his family off on a duck boat ride before a few suspicious individuals arrive with bad intentions. With a clearly fake story about a tummy ache,...

Bob Odenkirk will always be known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but a few years ago, he starred in an action thriller that took him to a new level of stardom. Odenkirk first turned up to crack skulls as Hutch Mansell in 2021’s Nobody, the John Wick-esque action thriller that grossed $57 million against a modest $16 million budget. Now, Hutch is back for a tropical vacation in Nobody 2, and Collider is thrilled to partner with Universal Pictures to exclusively unveil the Nobody 2 4Dx poster ahead of the film’s August 15 release date. The new poster shows Hutch doing what he does best: bashing heads even in the most unexpected environments with the most unconventional tools — this time, it’s punching someone in the face while wearing a duck mask. Who else but Hutch?

Image
The new “Getting Vacay Ready” featurette for Nobody 2 has been released. The film will be in theaters on August 15, 2025.

Sometimes the most dangerous place for a dad is a family vacation and Bob Odenkirk returns in Nobody 2 as suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell in the new chapter to Nobody, the hit 2021 bare-knuckle action-thriller that opened at number one at the U.S. box office.

Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs. Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (International Emmy nominee Connie Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and...

Kung Fu (1972)
Film Review: Forbidden City (2025) by Gabriele Mainetti
Kung Fu (1972)
Oh, the Italians… They take the genre or genres that are not native to their cinema, put a twist on it and – it somehow works! More than that, it sports its own style. They did it with spaghetti westerns and giallo pulp, so why they would not try the same thing with the Kung Fu flicks. Spaghetti or noodles, it is just a matter of taste, right? And, truth to be told, many “outsiders” tried their luck with Asian-style martial arts-powered action, from Gareth Evans to Timo Tjahjanto, and their efforts were far from embarrassing.

Enter the Italian actor and filmmaker Gabriele Mainetti who already flirted with the Asian-sourced sub-genres with his 2015 “They Call Me Jeeg Robot” and his vision of the “old-school-new-school” countdown between the mob dinosaurs and the triads newcomers on the streets of Rome. “Forbidden City” was released to selected theatres without a flashy festival premiere, but...

Jason Statham's Buzzy Box Office Hit Takes a Surprising Dip on Streaming Charts
Image
The Beekeeper may have stung the box office with a sweet $162.6 million global haul earlier this year, but Jason Statham’s conspiracy-fueled revenge thriller is starting to lose steam on streaming. Despite boasting a strong 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the David Ayer-directed film has dropped down on MGM+’s Top 10 chart as of July 9, according to FlixPatrol. Currently sitting at No. 5 on MGM+, The Beekeeper has slipped behind newer titles but is still outperforming heavy-hitters like Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, The Magnificent Seven, and even Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. Not bad for a sleeper hit with a modest $40 million budget.

While The Beekeeper is cooling off, Statham’s fans don’t have to worry — he’s still dominating elsewhere. His 2025 film A Working Man, another collaboration with Ayer, is currently No. 1 on MGM+’s Top 10 Overall list. The action star shows no signs of slowing down,...

Today's a Sad Day for Jason Statham Fans
Image
Jason Statham’s 2024 movie The Beekeepermay have a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but the conspiracy thriller is seeing a dip in viewership on streaming. Per FlixPatrol, as of July 9, The Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer, has dropped down in MGM+’s Top 10 list.

The film, which also stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons, has fallen to fifth place. However, The Beekeeper is still ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, The Magnificent Seven, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.

Another Statham Film is Dominating Streaming

It’s not all bad news for fans of Statham, though. His 2025 hit film, A Working Man,also directed by Ayer, is currently in the No. 1 spot on MGM+’s Top 10 Overall. The Beekeeper was a sleeper hit when it debuted in theaters in January 2024. It grossed more than $162.6 million worldwide,...

‘She Just Goes Batsh*t Crazy’: Nobody 2 Director Teases Sharon Stone’s Villainous Role
Image
Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto has opened up about Sharon Stone’s casting in the upcoming Nobody 2 movie. This marks the first English-language directorial feature for Tjahjanto, who is best known for his work on action thrillers like Killers (2014), Headshot (2016), and The Big 4 (2022), as well as horror movies such as Macabre (2009) and May the Devil Take You (2018).

In Nobody 2, Stone will be playing the sequel’s main antagonist named Lendina. Golden Globe winner is no stranger to villainous roles, following her iconic performances in 1992’s Basic Instinct and 2004’s Catwoman. Speaking with Empire, Tjahjanto teased the acclaimed actor’s lethal character, while also recalling Stone’s unbelievable casting. “She’s like a snake,” he said. “Sometimes she plays it calm, and sometimes she just goes batshit crazy! I thought we could never get Sharon Stone,” he explains. “We sent a script and a couple of days later I was sitting on her couch,...

Sharon Stone's First Big Screen Role in 4 Years Teased by Nobody 2' Director
Image
This summer's movie line-up is blazing hot, and the action thriller Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk is emitting a good portion of that heat. The original film, Nobody, was released in 2021 and saw the sketch comedy maestro graduate to an action hero with flying colors. Featuring an abundance of glorious fight sequences, the movie earned a near-unanimous reception among critics and audiences alike. Anticipation is sky-high for what the follow-up will offer, and from the little glimpse of it seen so far, there's no reason to worry. In addition to a few returning actors, Nobody 2 welcomes new additions in Colin Hanks and the iconic Sharon Stone, with this being the latter's first significant feature film role in 4 years. Now, director Timo Tjahjanto is teasing what we can expect from the latter's villain role.

A multi-talented artist, Stone was revered in her heyday for portraying femmes fatales, with notable works including Basic Instinct,...

'Nobody 2' Director Timo Tjahjanto Describes Sharon Stone's Performance as "Batsh*t Crazy"
Image
'90s icon Sharon Stone is set to make her comeback in the sequel to the surprising hit Nobody 2. The John Wick-esque movie will feature Bob Odenkirk again as the retired government mercenary whose past comes back to haunt him because of some unresolved business. The first film was quite successful with audiences and critics, and naturally, the producers were going to capitalize on it by making a sequel with an additional ingredient: a notable film icon as the villain. Director Timo Tjahjanto is grabbing the reins for the action follow-up, and he had nothing but good things to say about the Academy Award-nominated actor who has been missing from the spotlight lately.

Nobody was one of the films released in 2021 right as the Covid-19 pandemic shook the film industry. It suffered a delay in its original release schedule, and although this may have affected its performance, the film was well-received.

Nobody 2 Sees Sharon Stone Turn Action Villain: ‘She Just Goes Batshit Crazy!’
Image
After the explosive action delivered in Nobody, the sequel demanded a serious foe for Bob Odenkirk’s Hutch. In Ilya Naishuller’s 2021 original, Odenkirk’s family man relished in unleashing the brutal government hitman he’d long buried inside him after a home invasion tapped his inner badass. Now, in Nobody 2, from cult Indonesian action director Timo Tjahjanto, Hutch simply wants to go on holiday with his wife and kids. Except – wouldn’t you know it! – their chosen resort is also a wretched hive of scum and villainy, one that brings Hutch’s violent tendencies back out to play. And his nemesis, this time, is a Hollywood legend.

Enter Sharon Stone as the lethal Lendina, ready to raise some hell. “She’s like a snake,” Tjahjanto tells Empire. “Sometimes she plays it calm and sometimes she just goes batshit crazy!” The director first had Stone in mind as a...

How American Remake Of Train To Busan Is Connected To Original 2016 Horror Movie Clarified By Producer
Image
James Wan, the producer of Train to Busan's spinoff, The Last Train to New York, has revealed how the film is connected to its predecessor. Released in 2016 at the Cannes Film Festival, the South Korean horror movie debuted to critical and audience acclaim. Due to its domestic and international success, two films were added to the Train to Busan franchise. Seoul Station, the animated prequel, was released the same year as the original movie, while Peninsula, which wasn't as well-received as its predecessors, debuted in 2020.

Train to Busan doesn't exactly end on a cliffhanger since Su-an and Seong-kyeong make it to Busan. However, there's always been interest in a continuation, which is why an American remake of the horror movie was set to be a new addition to the franchise. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wan offered some details about the spinoff film and The Last Train to New York's production status.

You know the hype is very real when the creator of Mortal Kombat watches the sequel and walks away shouting, “Nailed it!!”. That’s right, Ed Boon, creative director of NetherRealm Studios, just gave his bloody stamp of approval after seeing the final cut of Mortal Kombat 2. But no, sadly, there’s still no trailer. That’s really high praise, right? But Boon is not alone in hyping Mortal Kombat 2. Director Timo Tjahjanto, known for The Night Comes for Us, also posted that he cried watching the movie.

James Wan Keeps ‘The Last Train to New York’ on the Rails
Image
James Wan isn’t ready to let The Last Train to New York fade into the sidings. The producer, speaking exclusively to Entertainment Weekly, reaffirmed that the American take on South Korea’s hit Train to Busan remains very much alive, despite Warner Bros. shelving the title indefinitely. “That’s definitely still a passion project of ours,” Wan explained, noting that Atomic Monster has never abandoned hope of bringing the concept Stateside .

Train to Busan (2016)

Rather than a straight remake, Wan says the plan is for The Last Train to New York to run parallel to the original. “Creatively, it takes place in the same world as Train to Busan,” he told EW. “It’s happening epidemically around the world. So if Train to Busan is this particular slice of the story in South Korea, we want Train to New York to be the one set in America. Everything about it is really exciting.

The Last Train to New York: James Wan considers Train to Busan remake / spin-off to be a passion project
James Wan
Seven years ago, it was announced that James Wan would be producing a remake of the South Korean zombie film Train to Busan (watch it Here) called The Last Train to New York. At one point, Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) was on board to direct, with Warner Bros. planning to give the film a theatrical release on April 21, 2023. Obviously, that didn’t happen. The film never went into production. But all this time later, Wan still considers The Last Train to New York to be a passion project… and he doesn’t think it should be called a remake. Rather, it’s a spin-off that’s set in the same world as the original film.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho from a screenplay by Park Joo-suk, the original Train to Busan is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a...

‘The Last Train to New York’ – James Wan Says ‘Train to Busan’ Remake Is Still a Passion Project
Image
It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about The Last Train to New York, a remake of the South Korean zombie film Train to Busan from producer James Wan that was set to be directed by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us, May the Devil Take You, V/H/S/94). At one point the film was to release in theaters in April 2023, which of course never happened.

The Last Train to New York has been without a release date for the last couple years, but producer Wan tells Entertainment Weekly this week that the film remains a passion project. As for whether or not it’s ever actually leaving the station, well, that’s still up in the air.

“That’s definitely still a passion project of ours,” Wan tells EW. “I hope that could get off the ground eventually. Got to be honest with you,...

James Wan's, 48, "Passion Project" Is a Remake of This 95% Rotten Tomatoes Zombie Flick

Two months ago, it was reported that Timo Tjahjanto was still interested in working on the American remake ofTrain to Busan, titled The Last Train to New York. And it's not just him. Film producer James Wan has also expressed interest in bringing this remake to life and shared some details about what this horror feature would be about.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wan stated that The Last Train to New York is something he and the folks at Atomic Monster are still passionate about making. And while the feature was pulled from Warner Bros' release schedule in 2022, the film producer shared details on its plot, revealing that it takes place in the same universe as Train to Busan and follows the same epidemic that occurred in the South Korean feature. But despite his excitement for the project, he, too, has no idea what's going on, nor does...
