‘Aew: Dark’ Review (Nov 15th 2022)
Image
Another week, another episode of Aew: Dark which features 8 matches on the card this week (thankfully; I do love a shorter show)… On with the review!

Match #1: Sky Blue def. Paris Van Dale

My Thoughts: Paris Van Dale is back again to get squashed by a signed Aew talent! I jest but Van Dale at least got more of a chance to show off her skills in this match than against Tay Melo. Sky Blue once again delivered a solid performance and the growth in her skills is very apparent every time she wrestles. As is the case here. A solid start to the show.

My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: The Iron Savages def. Brando Lee & Lucas Chase

My Thoughts: I still can’t get behind the change to The Iron Savages… Give me Bear Country any day. It’s a shame the duo haven’t hit the highs they had before injury,...

Film Review: Don’t Look at the Demon (2022) by Brando Lee
Image
Few setups and storylines have been explored and exploited more in the horror genre than the team of paranormal explorers contacting the other side and being confronted with their skeptical beliefs being confirmed wrong. From “The Legend of Hell House” to “Grave Encounters” and its sequel, “Ghost Killers vs. Bloody Mary” to the celebrated South Korean effort “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum“, to an entire franchise of TV shows based around “Ghost Hunters” performing this around the world, this concept is a huge part of the genre with entries being found around the globe. This Malaysian Barnstorm Entertainment-Brando Studios co-production, from director Brando Lee and starring a slew of recognizable American actors and actresses, arrives as a new entry in the style on October 7 from Outsider Pictures.

Led by troubled medium Jules (Fiona Dourif), her friends Mattie (Jordan Belfi), Wolf (Randy Wayne), Ben (Harris Dickinson), and Annie (Thao Nhu Phan), an American television crew of paranormal investigators,...

Jason Momoa's The Crow Remake Finally Has a Release Date
Sony's The Crow remake now officially has a 2019 release date, which is pretty amazing. The idea of another Crow movie has been tossed around forever with all kinds of studios and actors attached to the project. When it was announced that Jason Momoa was going to play the lead, many fans didn't believe that it was going to happen after getting burned so many times before. However, a little ray of sunshine poked through the clouds late last year when it was confirmed that The Crow reboot would begin production this year under the direction of Corin Hardy.

Sony has announced that The Crow reboot will officially hit theaters on October 11th, 2019. The project was dropped months ago by Relativity Media after working on it for years. Sony was quick to snatch up the property and soon Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy were on board with the promise that...

Why ‘Beach Rats’ Breakout Harris Dickinson Isn’t Afraid of Risqué Roles (or Sex Scenes)
Image
IndieWire’s Springboard column profiles up-and-comers in the film industry worthy of your attention.

For his first feature, British actor and filmmaker Harris Dickinson didn’t shy away from some significant challenges. As the star of Eliza Hittman’s Sundance premiere “Beach Rats,” Dickinson appears in nearly every frame, tasked with striking a delicate balance between rough-and-tumble teen and a young man struggling with his sexuality. His Frankie lives out parallel existences that threaten to not just bump up against each other, but with annihilation.

“Beach Rats” follows Frankie over the course of one summer, a season spent alternately lazing around with his rabble-rousing pals at the beach and exploring visits to gay chatrooms that steadily go from digital-only to all-too-real. When Frankie meets Simone (Madeline Weinstein), he gets a glimpse of what his life could be like, but that’s a choice that could mean denying his real feelings.
