Film Review: And The Rest Will Follow (2025) by Pelin Esmer
Image
Shattered dreams and multiple shades of loneliness are central to the plot of Pelin Esmer‘s indie title “And The Rest Will Follow”, which world-premiered in the Harbour strand of IFFR. The Turkish helmer continues where she stopped with her critically acclaimed drama “Watchtower” in 2012, digging into the psyche of her characters to expose the consequences of their traumatic experiences.

And The Rest Will Follow is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam

A young film aficionado Aliye (Merve Asya Ozgur) finds refuge from her unbearably toxic atmosphere at home, and boring uninspiring job through activity not far away from stalking, in Esmer’s melancholic script written for “And The Rest Will Follow”. It all starts very harmlessly. Curious to see her idol Levent (Timucin Esen) live on stage, Alyie stays for the Q&a session with the established filmmaker upon the screening of his movie at the cinema in the hotel where she works.
