‘Smash’ Sets Spring Broadway Opening, Cast To Include Robyn Hurder, Krysta Rodriguez, Brooks Ashmanskas, More

Smash, the new stage musical adaptation inspired by the cult favorite 2012 NBC TV series, will begin Broadway previews on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Imperial Theatre, with an official opening on Thursday, April 10 and a cast that will include Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez, John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen, Caroline Bowman, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Bella Coppola and Casey Garvin.

The dates and cast were announced today by producers Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg.

Directed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), the company also will include Wendi Bergamini, Sarah Bowden, Jacob Burns, Deanna Cudjoe, Chelle Denton, Daniel Gaymon, Merritt David Janes, Megan Kane, David Paul Kidder, Ian Liberto, Libby Lloyd, McGee Maddox, Connor McRory, J Savage, Jake Trammel and Katie Webber.

‘Smash’ Musical Plans to Open on Broadway This Spring

Smash is coming to Broadway this spring.

The musical, which is an adaptation of the NBC television series, will open at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre on April 10, 2025, with previews starting March 11. Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg are lead producing, with Susan Stroman, a Tony Award winner for The Producers, as the director.

The show, directed by Stroman, will star Robyn Hurder (Moulin Rouge) as Ivy, Brooks Ashmanskas (The Prom) as Nigel, Krysta Rodriguez (Spring Awakening) as Tracy, John Behlmann (Shucked) as Jerry, Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) as Susan, Caroline Bowman (Frozen) as Karen, Jacqueline B. ‘The Great Gatsby’ Musical to Open on Broadway in April

The Great Gatsby musical, the highest grossing show in Off-Broadway theater Paper Mill Playhouse’s history, will be coming to Broadway this spring.

The musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s acclaimed novel will debut at The Broadway Theatre on April 25, the show’s lead producer Chunsoo Shin announced on Tuesday. Directed by Marc Bruni, Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada are set to reprise their Off-Broadway roles as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, with previews beginning March 29.

“I am passionate about producing this show because it provides a modern audience with the true essence of idealism that is expressed eloquently in the novel and now on stage,” said Shin in a statement. “The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece that grows and changes as it’s experienced by each new generation, in every culture, and people — and yet, still maintains its uniqueness, with its fascinating characters that burst with vitality.

A new musical adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Smash‘s Jeremy Jordan and Hadestown‘s Eva Noblezada will open on Broadway this spring, producers announced today.

The musical begins previews on Friday, March 29, at The Broadway Theatre, with an opening night set for Thursday, April 25. The announcement was made by lead producer Chunsoo Shin.

Direct from a record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse last fall, the show features music and lyrics by Tony Award nominees Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square) & Jason Howland (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), a book by Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones), and is staged by award-winning director Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and choreographer Dominique Kelley (Mariah’s Magical Christmas Special).

New 1/52 Project Selects Seven Early-Career Theater Designers For Grants

Exclusive: The 1/52 Project, a new financial grant program founded by Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, has selected the first seven early-career designer recipients to benefit from 100,000 in grants. Each of the inaugural recipients will receive grants up to 15,000, with applicants chosen based on talent, creativity, innovation, and potential for future excellence in the professional theatrical field.

The 2022 recipients are Brittany Bland, projection designer; Everett Elton Bradman, sound designer; Stefania Bulbarella, projection designer; Jessica Alexandra Cancino, set designer; Frank Cazares, costume designer; Jordan McCree, sound designer; and Jingyi Johanna Pan, costume designer.

‘Some Like It Hot’ Musical Sets Broadway Cast, Opening Night Date

A musical comedy based on the classic film “Some Like It Hot” will premiere on Broadway in the fall of 2022.

The show, which was originally scheduled to open in Chicago last year before transferring to the Great White Way, will begin performances on Nov. 1. “Some Like It Hot” officially opens Dec. 11 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre.

The company will be led by Christian Borle as Joe/Josephine, J. Harrison Ghee as Jerry/Daphne, Adrianna Hicks as Sugar, Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue, Adam Heller as Mulligan and Mark Lotito as Spats. The full cast will be announced at a later date.

‘Some Like It Hot’ Stage Musical Sets Fall Broadway Opening; Cast Announced

Some Like It Hot, the stage musical adaptation of the classic 1959 Billy Wilder film comedy, will make it to Broadway next fall, following a couple pandemic-bedeviled years that saw the cancelation of a once-planned 2021 pre-New York engagement in Chicago.

With a cast fronted by Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee and Adrianna Hicks, who have been with the project through the workshop phase, Some Like It Hot will begin Broadway previews at the Shubert Theatre on Nov. 1, 2022, with an opening night set for Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, just in time for Broadway’s holiday sweet spot.

‘Funny Girl’ Starring Beanie Feldstein Announces Complete Broadway Cast

Broadway’s upcoming revival of Funny Girl, starring Beanie Feldstein, Jane Lynch, Ramin Karimloo and Jared Grimes has completed casting, with Peter Francis James, Ephie Aardema, Debra Cardon and Toni Dibuono among those joining the cast.

The complete casting was announced today by producers Sonia Friedman, Scott Landis and David Babani. The complete creative team also was announced, including Susan Hilferty as costume designer, Kevin Adams as lighting designer and Brian Ronan as sound designer.

Rehearsals for the musical are expected to begin today, with previews set to start Saturday, March 26, at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre, with an official opening on Sunday, April 24.

‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Musical Announces Fall Broadway Return With Rob McClure In Title Role

Well, poppets, Mrs. Doubtfire is the latest Broadway returnee: Producers of the musical adaptation announced today that the show will begin previews on Oct. 21 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, with an official opening night on Dec. 5.

“I’m thrilled that the Mrs. Doubtfire company will reunite on Broadway this fall bringing their indomitable spirit and talent to this new production based on one of the most beloved films of all time,” said producer Kevin McCollum in a statement.

The musical, an adaptation by the Something Rotten! team of the 1993 Robin Williams movie with book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell and music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, played just three previews performances in Spring 2020 before the industry-wide pandemic shutdown.

Mrs. Doubtfire is directed by Jerry Zaks, and stars Rob McClure in the title role. Tickets go on sale today.

Broadway’s ‘The Prom’ To Take Party On The Road With National Tour
Broadway’s The Prom has a date with the road: The Tony-nominated musical will launch a first national tour in February 2021 in Providence, Rhode Island.

The tour was announced today by producers Bill Damaschke, Dori Berinstein and Jack Lane. Other dates and additional cities will be announced at a later date.

In addition to the tour, producers announced that a worldwide licensing deal has been confirmed with Theatrical Rights Worldwide (Trw).

The Prom opened on Broadway November 15, 2018 at the Longacre Theatre, with direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw, book by Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Chad Beguelin (Aladdin), music by Matthew Sklar (Elf) and lyrics by Chad Beguelin.

Kelli O’Hara & Will Chase To Tame Broadway’s ‘Kiss Me, Kate’
Nashville‘s Will Chase and Tony-winner Kelli O’Hara will take on Kiss Me, Kate in a new Roundabout Theatre Broadway production set for next year. Roundabout’s Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO, made the announcement today.

Kiss Me, Kate will begin preview performances at Studio 54 on Broadway on Thursday, February 14, 2019 and opens officially on Thursday, March 14, 2019. The limited engagement runs through Sunday, June 2, 2019.

We’ve unearthed the running order of the 2018 Tony Awards hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban on CBS on Sunday, June 10. Over the course of upwards of three-and-half-hours, winners will be announced in 26 competitive categories. Below is the order in which the 72nd Tonys will unfold.

The eight design awards will be handed out in the half hour before the show goes live at 8 p.m. Et as will the Tony for Best Orchestrations. Those winners will be showcased throughout the telecast, with inserts of their acceptance speeches.

As usual, the first award on the broadcast will be one of the featured acting races (this year it is on the musical side of the aisle) while the show closes with a big one, Best Musical.
