‘Weapons’ Star Alden Ehrenreich Wants You to Go to More Theater in Los Angeles
Image
In the nascent days of the pandemic, many found themselves participating in activities that would otherwise have been deemed out-of-character (see: sourdough, jigsaw puzzles, ceramics.) Alden Ehrenreich, the actor who played a young Han Solo and has worked with everyone from the Coen Brothers to Park Chan-wook, found himself Googling Los Angeles commercial real estate.

For years, Ehrenreich would walk into various spaces — friends’ houses, restaurants, anywhere with a semi-raised platform, really — and offer the same refrain: “You could do a theater here.” The pandemic-induced downtime gave him the space to finally pursue a long-held desire to open a theater in Los Angeles. And the Google search led him to Huron Substation, a historical building in the Cypress Park neighborhood in the northeast of the city.

Originally built as a service station for Los Angeles’s one-time Yellow trolley cars up until the 1960s, Huron has been more recently used...

“I’m not the brash young man that I once was”: Poker Face Season 3’s Fate Sounds Murky After Rian Johnson’s Latest Comments
Image
Who’s keeping us on the edge of our seats again? None other than Rian Johnson, director of Brick, Knives Out, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He brought his twist-loving mind to Poker Face, Peacock’s retro-style murder mystery series starring Natasha Lyonne as the lie-detecting drifter, Charlie Cale.

Since its 2023 premiere, the show’s witty blend of crime, comedy, and Lyonne’s eccentric charisma has made it a fan favorite. But what happens now? After season 2’s wild finale cliffhanger, in which Charlie and the assassin Iguana plunge off a gorge, when we’ll see season 3 remains a mystery for now.

Where’s the renewal? Not here yet. And why not? That’s the kicker. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson admitted,

We haven’t really started the conversations. If it all makes sense and all comes together, I do love doing the show… but there...

K-Pop Demon Hunters on Netflix Reminded Me of Michelle Yeoh’s Absurd Role
Image
K-Pop Demon Hunters broke records with its debut on Netflix. Produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation and directed by Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang, the movie combines the gleaming energy of K-pop with supernatural demon-slaying action.

The film features Huntrix- a demon-slaying musical girl-group facing off against the Saja Boys, a rival band who are using demonic powers to serve the Demon King Gwi-Ma. The movie is doing brilliantly on Netflix, with incredible reviews.

Among the girl group, Rumi stands out as she’s harboring a secret in shame: she’s half demon. Rumi tries her best to conceal the truth, as that’s what she’s always been taught. Her eventual transformation into a demon without being weighed down by guilt or shame surreally resembles a touching arc in Michelle Yeoh’s Everything Everywhere All at Once.

And the Emmy Nominations Should Go to…
Image
The key races for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards couldn’t be more different.

The comedy categories appear to be heading for another showdown between The Bear — once again prompting an obligatory “Is it a drama or a comedy?” debate — and Hacks, with several returning shows still in the mix while the drama fields, which Shōgun dominated last year, are wide open.

While voters can, and in many cases should, absolutely go back to prior favorites like The White Lotus, Severance and The Last of Us, the THR television critics have recommendations on some familiar and some quirky and offbeat ways to fill out ballots.

Voting for the nomination round closes on Monday, June 23, with nominations announced on Tuesday, July 15. The 2025 Emmys will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Sept. 14, with Nate Bargatze serving as host.

Emmys Acting Contenders: From Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Who Was Officially Submitted
Image
With Emmy nominations voting officially underway, the Television Academy’s ballots are offering insight into which performances could break through when nominations are unveiled on July 15. While submission totals in several key categories are down — reflecting the industry’s ongoing post-strike recovery — the races remain competitive and dynamic, with marquee names and fresh talent jockeying for recognition.

The lead actor and actress categories in drama are notably tighter this year. Only 77 actors and 75 actresses were submitted — down slightly from 2024 (81 and 67) and a sharp decline from 2022’s highs (134 and 114). As a result, each category will have only five nominees unless ties boost the field to six.

The drama actor race includes a trio of Latino contenders making waves: Diego Luna for “Andor,” Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us,” and Ramón Rodríguez for “Will Trent.” They’ll face off against a rising generation, and established career performers such as Matthew Goode (“Dept.

Peacock cancels an overrated comedy, so we saw this one coming
Image
The future of Laid on Peacock has been in limbo since December 2024 when the Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet series premiered on the streamer. Since then, viewers have been wondering whether a second season was in store for the comedy, and now we finally have that answer.

Laid has officially been cancelled at Peacock, meaning there won't be a season 2. An exact reason wasn't given, though Deadline reports that the show didn't make it into the Nielsen streaming rankings, so the viewership numbers more than likely played a role in the decision.

Despite the low viewership numbers, the comedy series does have a 93% score audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. I mean, that's only based on 28 views so I guess that further proves the low streaming numbers. No offense. But still. The majority of those users gave the show a high score on Rt. Though I think it's overrated, so I honestly saw this cancellation coming.

Peacock Has Decided the Fate of Its 93% Rotten Tomatoes Rom-Com Series
Image
It's another heartbreaking day for lovers of television as Peacock has just killed off one of its most promising shows. Laid, a romantic-comedy drama starring Everything Everywhere All At Once star Stephanie Hsu, has been cancelled on the streamer after just one season. The series premiered with all eight episodes on Peacock on December 19. Laid was a hit with audiences and the critics as well, scoring a tidy 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the numbers weren't quite enough for the streamer. In addition to starring, Hsu also served as executive producer, as did the show's writers and co-showrunners, Sally Bradford McKenna and Nahnatchka Khan.

Peacock has not released an official statement explaining its decision; however, Deadline, which broke the news, reports that the series was unable to draw as much attention as other shows from the same creators. Also, its streaming numbers paled against expectations. Many fans would, however, argue that...

‘Laid’ Canceled At Peacock After One Season
Stephanie Hsu in Laid (2024)
Peacock isn’t moving forward with a second season of Laid, pulling the plug on the high-concept comedy just five months after its debut. The eight-episode series—starring Stephanie Hsu, Zosia Mamet, Michael Angarano, and Tommy Martinez—premiered in full on December 19, 2024. Peacock Comedy With 93% Rotten Tomatoes Score Gets Canceled After 1 Season
Image
It's going to be a one-season run for Laid, the romantic comedy series on Peacock. Despite having a strong cast with nearly unanimous praise from critics, the show won't be getting another season on the NBCUniversal platform.

Per Deadline, Laid has officially been canceled by Peacock after one season. The show premiered on the streaming platform on Dec. 19 with all eight episodes made available to watch simultaneously. Its response was stellar, as the show holds a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the show did not become a major streaming hit, as it didn't crack Nielsen's top 10 list, nor did it create substantial buzz on social media. It's not yet known if the show will be shopped around to other streaming platforms for a potential rescue.

Laid was created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, though it takes inspiration from the Australian TV series of the same name...

Stephanie Hsu's 93% Rotten Tomatoes Romantic Comedy Show Canceled By Peacock After 1 Season
Image
In a shocking turn of events, Peacock canceled Stephanie Hsu’s hit romantic comedy show after just 1 season despite overwhelmingly positive reviews. Though she’s better known for her onscreen roles, Stephanie Hsu started her career acting as Karen the Computer in Spongebob the Musical and Christine Canigula in Be More Chill, both of which showed the actor’s comedic chops.

Onscreen, Hsu grew to fame for playing Joy Wang and Jobu Tupaki in Everything Everywhere All At Once, for which she gained a 2023 Oscar nomination. The movie might not traditionally be considered a comedy, but the character of Jobu Tupaki inserts dark humor into the beautifully bizarre storyline.

Falling in line with her Broadway debut and her breakout movie role, Hsu has gained a reputation for being a top-notch comedy actor. Her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel added some levity to the drama. She stands out in the...

Stephanie Hsu, Zosia Mamet's 'Laid' Canceled at Peacock
Image
Another day, another under-appreciated comedy gem gets tossed to the wayside by its streaming home. That's right, the Stephanie Hsu-starring (and executive-produced!) comedy series, Laid, has been canceled after a single season on Peacock. The show was a hit with critics (including our own Greg Archer) and fans who tuned in — gaining it a 93% on the Tomatometer, which seems a big low, all things considered. Unfortunately, praise was not enough to convince Peacock to give the series another season, which is a shame for anyone who watched the show.

The news, which was first reported by Deadline, comes at a time when fewer and fewer comedy series are getting the green light. Laid followed Hsu's Ruby Yao as she —over the course of the series' 8 episodes — realized that all of her former lovers were dying in unusual ways, forcing her to confront her past (and subsequent sex partners) in order to move forward.

Laid Cancelled at Peacock

Hsu (an Oscar nominee for Everything Everywhere All at Once) starred as Ruby, a young woman who discovers that all of her former lovers are dying under mysterious circumstances. Along with her friend Aj (played by Girls alum Zosia Mamet), Ruby “must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward,” according to the official synopsis.

‘Laid’ Canceled At Peacock After One Season

Exclusive: Peacock will not be moving forward with new installments of the freshman series Laid, sources reveal to Deadline.

Laid, starring and executive produced by Stephanie Hsu, premiered on December 19 with all 8 episodes available to stream. While Laid boasted a talented ensemble cast, a catchy title, and a must-stream playlist, the rom-com failed to make the Nielsen streaming rankings, nor did it generate as much buzz as other projects from co-showrunners, executive producers, and writers Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna. It is as yet unknown if the show will be shopped around.
