Stars: Andrew Lee Potts, Beatrice Fletcher, Amber Doig-Thorne, Graham Skipper, Matt McClure, Poppy Anne Williams, Johnny Vivash, Martina Greenwood | Written by Damon Rickard, Andrew Lee Potts, Mitch Bain | Directed by Damon Rickard

Never Have I Ever, is the first feature film by Damon Rickard and is an impressive debut. Having built up his talents on some short films, including The Tour and The Package, he finally decided to tackle the feature film. The film unfolds as a psychological thriller with an expanding undertone of horror. The plot delves into the tumultuous life of Sam, portrayed by Andrew Lee Potts. Sam is a struggling screenwriter grappling with alcoholism and the looming threat of repaying an advance due to missed deadlines. The creation of a nuanced sense of dread helps the film hold our attention. Sam’s day takes a series of unfortunate turns, culminating in a chance meeting with Mara, played by Beatrice Fletcher,...

Abandoned Scottish Horror Film Finally Sees The Light Of Day
Image
In the summer of 2007 a group of emerging filmmakers and actors set out into the Scottish wilderness to make a low budget horror film in homage to the low budget American horror films of the 1970s. The grizzly slasher titled The Bench has never been completed, until now.

Inspired by Tobe Hooper’s original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), this team of filmmakers led by writer / director Sean Wilkie (Matter of Time) used the HD revolution to their advantage, shooting the film on Hdv tape lends a quality that’s been absent from cinema since 16mm celluloid went out of fashion some decades earlier, the film taps into elements established by the grungy guerilla films such as The Blair Witch Project.

Magic Monkey Films (Mercy Falls / Lost At Christmas) is proud to announce the revival of the long-dormant horror film, The Bench, a project that echoes the raw terror and unrelenting suspense...

The Bench (2024)
The Bench | Scottish horror film released 17 years after filming
The Bench (2024)
Indie Scottish horror film The Bench began filming 17 years ago, and it’s only now streaming on Amazon Prime.

When writer/director Sean Wilkie set out to make horror film The Bench 17 years ago, he surely couldn’t have imagined it would take until 2024 for audiences to see it.

According to the BBC, production began in 2007, with scenes shot in the Caves venue in Edinburgh, with exterior scenes shot in Lochwinnoch and Drumpellier Country Park.

The synopsis reads as follows:

A breakdown. A kind invitation. A cabin with a bloody past. Alex and her newfound friends face a nightmarish reality as they are picked off one by one, drawn to the sinister bench below. Inspired by low-budget horror films of the 1970s.

The cast includes Jennifer Byrne, Matt McClure Ilaria Nardini and Joy McAvoy.

Wilkie wrote and directed the film. Of the delay, he said, “The first two weeks on...

‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Homage ‘The Bench’ Finally Releases After 16 Years [Trailer]
Image
If you poke around the Bloody Disgusting archives you’ll see that we wrote about an indie horror movie titled The Bench way back in 2012, a film that actually began production in 2007. The movie never ended up seeing the light of day… until now, that is.

17 years later, The Bench is available now to rent or buy on Prime Video!

The official press release explains, “In the summer of 2007 a group of emerging filmmakers and actors set out into the Scottish wilderness to make a low budget horror film in homage to the low budget American horror films of the 1970s. The Kentucky Gentlemen Beat Nashville at Its Own Game in ‘Whatever You’re Up For’
Image
The most compelling commercial-country slow jam of the year can’t yet be heard on the radio or on any corporate streaming playlist. It begins as a Luke Bryan-style slow jam before crashing into a guitar-crunch country-rock power chorus that would sound right at home playing between songs by Jason Aldean and Chris Young.

“Whatever You’re Up For” is the lead track from the self-titled debut EP by the Kentucky Gentlemen, a twin-brother duo (Brandon and Derek Campbell) based in Nashville and originally from the Bluegrass State. The self-released EP’s five songs,...

The Jack in the Box: Awakening review – gothic toy clown horror springs few surprises
Robert Strange in The Jack in the Box (2019)
An unsavoury oedipal pact provides the only original note in a sequel that otherwise goes through the motions

By this point there is surely no way back for the clowning profession: every minor horror movie knows it can serve up a demonic pierrot as a bogeyman. With this sequel to 2019’s The Jack in the Box, Lawrence Fowler’s would-be franchise doubles down on the eponymous creepy toy by having its hellspawn harlequin manifest once the crank is turned. It’s rather beholden to The Conjuring (and uses the same title font) and, while writer-director Fowler obviously knows his horror, he doesn’t really show enough imagination here to blaze a bloody trail of his own.

The knick-knack of the title is delivered to the country mansion of Olga Marsdale (Nicola Wright), a rich collector of vintage toys who is bedridden with bone cancer. Aware of its cursed past, she...
