Dope Girls Trailer and Key Art Revealed by Hulu

Hulu has revealed the official trailer and key art for the UK series Dope Girls, from Sony Pictures Television. The six-part period drama premieres on Tuesday, July 29.

The Dope Girls cast includes Emmy-nominated Julianne Nicholson, Eliza Scanlen, Umi Myers, Eilidh Fisher, Geraldine James, Michael Duke, and Ian Bonar.

In the aftermath of WWI, London is changing as returning soldiers from the front find a society changed by a newly empowered generation of women.

In Soho’s emerging underground club scene, women begin to seize opportunities, both legal and illegal, and shape the nightlife industry.

Creators Polly Stenham and Alex Warren and director Shannon Murphy acted as executive producers alongside Kate Crowther and Jane Tranter from Bad Wolf, and Michael Lesslie for Storyteller Productions, with Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC.

Other writers on the series included Matthew Barry, who also acted as executive producer, and writers Matthew Jacobs Morgan and Xiao Tang.

BFI & BAFTA Unveil 2024 Participants For 10th Lgbtqia+ Mentoring Scheme

The BFI and BAFTA have unveiled the 2024 intake for its 10th BFI Flare x BAFTA professional development program, supporting six emerging Lgbtqia+ creatives working on their debuts in film and TV.

They comprise writer and performer Travis Alabanza, creative producer Isabella Bassett, actor and writer Zak Ghazi-Torbati, filmmaker Cherish Oteka, writer and actor Miles Sloman and screenwriter and director Charlie Tidmas. (see full bios below)

The participants benefit from industry mentorship, bespoke events and workshops at BAFTA and BFI as well as wellbeing and career coaching and access to BAFTA Connect, the academy’s membership programme for emerging and mid-level talent.

They will also be given networking opportunities during the BFI Flare: London Lgbtqia+ Film Festival, running from March 13 to 24 March.

BFI and BAFTA noted that the festival’s opening night film, Layla, was created by two alumni of the scheme.

‘Dope Girls’: Julianne Nicholson & Eliza Scanlen To Lead BBC Drama About Female Crime Boss In Soho; Filming Underway

Exclusive: Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown) and Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects) have landed the lead roles in the BBC’s upcoming crime drama series Dope Girls, we can reveal.

Umi Myers, Eilidh Fisher and Geraldine James have also landed major parts in the series, which we first told you about back in March. At the time, our sources said the BBC sees Dope Girls as a spiritual successor to Peaky Blinders, which ended last year.

Filming on the show, which is set in London’s Soho in the early 20th century, when female gangs ran the clubs, drugs and moonshine, is now underway. It will launch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and comes from Polly Stenham and Alex Warren (Eleanor).

Exclusive: The BBC is delving into the history of Soho’s criminal underworld for its next big-budget drama series.

Dope Girls will be a six-part series from His Dark Materials producer Bad Wolf for BBC One.

Our sources say the BBC sees Dope Girls as a spiritual successor to Peaky Blinders, and Bad Wolf is understood to be in early stage discussions with U.S. co-production partners and global streaming services.

Polly Stenham and Alex Warren (Eleanor) are writing Dope Girls, which is inspired by Marek Kohn’s non-fiction book Dope Girls: The Birth of the British Drug Underground.

The stars of film and television came together tonight to celebrate the official kickoff to the 2023 awards season at the Golden Globes.

Held at the Beverly Hilton, the HFPA’s gala event was attended by directors Rian Johnson, Tim Burton, Baz Luhrmann and Sheryl Lee Ralph, Austin Butler, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams, Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega, Jennifer Coolidge, Jamie Lee Curtis and many more who all walked a tented red carpet due to torrential rains in Los Angeles.

The three-hour NBC telecast was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, and Golden Globe winner and six-time nominee Eddie Murphy will receive the 2023 Cecil B. DeMille Award. Five-time Golden Globe winner and 16-time nominee Ryan Murphy will receive the Carol Burnett Award.

Amazon’s Prime Video has announced a January 6th premiere date for the supernatural thriller series The Rig, and along with that announcement comes the release of a trailer for the show! The Rig is set on the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. Brit List 2022: Producers Left Bank, Carnival, Eleven Sign Up to Buzzy U.K. Scripts

British production companies such as Left Bank, Carnival Pictures and Eleven Film have already signed up to a slew of new writing projects comprising the annual Brit List. Just 5 out of the 19 scripts this year are still without a production company attached.

The U.K. platform for emerging British screenwriting talent and their unproduced scripts unveiled its 2022 lineup at its first in-person gathering since 2019.

The Brit List was established in 2007 to discover writing talent from the U.K. that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. It has built a reputation for being the country’s leading showcase for emerging British voices. The list is compiled from recommendations by British production companies, talent agencies, sales companies, financiers, distributors and broadcasters.

A comedy-drama series from Downton Abbey producer Carnival Films about an ambitious young model tops this year’s Brit List of the best unproduced TV and film scripts.

Issy Knowles’ Model Behaviour has landed seven recommendations to put it two ahead of the second-placed Hat Trick Mercurio series The Hoax, which is based on the true story of a lonely Parisian ambulance driver who faked his own heroic involvement in the 2015 Bataclan massacre.
