Review Round-Up: ‘Throwback’ & Summer of Blood’
Throwback

Stars: Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, Melanie Serafin, Vernon Wells, Warren Clements, Andy Bramble | Written and Directed by Travis Bain

There’s seems to be a renaissance in Ozploitation for the bigfoot movie (more commonly known as the Yowie down under), a genre which had, until very recently, died a slow an painful death, becoming as extinct as the very creatures themselves. Of course, if you’ve been reading our reviews here on Nerdly, you’ll know all about There’s Something in the Pilliga – the brilliantly funny “drunk Aussie’s versus Yowie” flick that played last Novembers MonsterFest. Well now we have another example of the genre with Throwback.

The film sees two pest exterminators head into the bush to search for the legendary lost treasure of the bushranger, Thunderclap Newman . The pair find their bounty but what they didn’t count on was an encounter with Australia’s mythical Yowie,...

Premiere Date Announced for Sasquatchsploitation Flick Throwback
It's been awhile since we've had anything to report about Australian filmmaker Travis Bain's homage to 70s Bigfoot flicks, entitled Throwback, but today that silence has been broken with news that the film is finally ready for its festival premiere. Read on for details!

Throwback will have its North American premiere at California's Famous Monsters Film Festival, taking place in San Jose on May 17th and 18th. The film has yet to be picked up for home video/VOD distribution, but we can expect that to happen shortly.

Written and directed by Bain, the film stars Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, Vernon Wells, and Melanie Serafin.

Synopsis

Two modern-day treasure hunters -- Jack and Kent -- venture into the remote jungles of Far North Queensland in search of lost bushranger gold. But their adventure goes terribly awry when they are threatened by a savage creature, a legendary monster known as a Yowie,...

More Outback Terror on the Way with Throwback
Australians may be a very friendly bunch, but maybe that's to lull us into a false sense of security? Either way, the Outback is a vast area that can be frightening if you don't know where you're going. Case in point...

Below you'll find the first and fairly badass poster art for writer/director Travis Bain's new flick Throwback, starring Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, Melanie Serafin, and Vernon Wells of The Road Warrior and Commando fame.

"From the get-go I knew I wanted an illustrated poster rather than your typical modern ‘floating heads’ Photoshop design,” Bain says of the design by Brazilian artist Juarez Ricci. “Juarez’s work reminds me of the old Drew Struzan and Richard Amsel posters I grew up with, so he was a natural choice to create this artwork.” Like it? You can buy it here.

Throwback recently premiered at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival in England,...
