Superman is a reminder of how perfect María Gabriela de Faría was in Deadly Class
Image
The cast of Superman was created with patience and precision. Everyone was carefully picked to complete one of DC Studios and Warner Bros.' most important projects in years. Of course, the Man of Steel, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor had to be the top priorities, but they were only the start. Characters like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific had to be carefully selected because they’re mostly well-known. Another crucial person (that may have gotten swept under the rug) is María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, a.k.a. Angela Spica.

I didn’t know much about the Engineer, but she was fantastic in Superman. She wasn’t portrayed as another goon Lex Luthor experimented on for his needs. Angela had a personality of her own and believed in Lex’s cause. And when it was time to do crucial jobs, she did things that even the genius Lex Luthor couldn’t.

Rumor: There Are Major Plans For Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Beyond Avengers: Secret Wars
Hugh Jackman
Back in May, we learned that Deadpool & Wolverine writer and star Ryan Reynolds is in the early stages of penning a new Deadpool movie that will see the Merc with a Mouth paired up with "three or four" X-Men characters.

Widely believed to be an X-Force movie, we've previously heard that Josh Brolin's Cable, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and the McU's Storm are being considered to lead the project alongside Reynolds' Wade Wilson.

It remains to be seen whether this Deadpool & Wolverine follow-up happens, especially as it's only something Reynolds is in the early stages of developing (it's also no secret that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shot down many of his initial Deadpool 3 pitches).

We have an update from scooper @MyTimeToShineH today, who claims, "Hugh Jackman's Wolverine appears in Ryan Reynolds' script for the next Deadpool movie, which means he won't be retiring the role after Secret Wars.

12 Lesser-Known Avengers That Could Appear In Doomsday And Secret Wars
Image
Ever since Marvel Studios officially announced "Avengers: Doomsday," True Believers have been clamoring to know more about the first part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga finale. First, the House of Ideas revealed at Sdcc 2024 that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom. Then, in March 2025, the studio shared a number of cast members who would be returning for the Russo Brothers' next epic featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes. And though that list includes nearly 30 names already, there is no way that this is the entire Avengers roster for the upcoming Phase 6 film and its sequel, "Avengers: Secret Wars." After all, there are some heavy hitters still missing from the lineup.

But while looking at the landscape of the MCU as it is now, there are a number of characters that have been introduced in films and TV shows that also have a history with...

Rumor: Ryan Reynolds' X-force Movie Leads Possibly Revealed (And There Are Some Big Surprises)
Image
Earlier this month, we learned that Deadpool & Wolverine writer and star Ryan Reynolds is in the early stages of writing a new Deadpool movie that will see the Merc with a Mouth paired up with "three or four" X-Men characters.

The idea is that Wade Wilson would be a supporting player in a project which will be separate from the X-Men reboot being written by Michael Lesslie for Marvel Studios. Reynolds is currently working independently from the studio, so it hasn't been officially greenlit (it's also no secret that Kevin Feige turned down several of his Deadpool 3 pitches).

The trades broke the news about Reynolds' plans, while social media scoopers later claimed to have learned that it's an X-Force—or, at the very least, X-Force-inspired—movie.

Now, scooper @MyTimeToShineH is reporting that Josh Brolin's Cable and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will both be on this team.

Is Deadpool & Wolverine Star Ryan Reynolds' Mystery X-men Team-Up Movie Really X-force?
Image
Yesterday evening, the news broke that Ryan Reynolds is in the early stages of writing a new Deadpool movie that will see the Merc with a Mouth paired up with "three or four" X-Men characters.

Wade Wilson would be a supporting player in the project that's separate from the X-Men reboot being written by Michael Lesslie for Marvel Studios. Reynolds is currently working independently from the studio, so it's unclear whether the project will come to fruition.

However, with Marvel Studios looking to put the X-Men front and centre and Deadpool & Wolverine proving to be one of its biggest hits during the Multiverse Saga, we're sure Kevin Feige won't hesitate to bring Reynolds back into the fold.

What will this mysterious movie be? Well, scooper @MyTimeToShineH is strongly hinting that, as many of you have theorised, this is an X-Force feature.

Deadpool has a storied history with the team; one...

Image
Welcome everyone to Bam Smack Pow's Creator Spotlight series, where we delve into the lives and creative works of some of the best and brightest creators in comics, looking at some of their most popular works.

For the first installment, let's look at one creator whose stories and artwork took my breath away from the first comic of his that I picked up (and he remains one of my favorite creatives currently working in comics today). That is none other than Sean Gordon Murphy.

Get to know Sean Gordon Murphy

Sean Gordon Murphy was born in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1980. At an early age he become enraptured with the world of comics and began drawing. While his love of comics and art made him secluded from the rest of his peers, that didn't stop him from continuing to pursue his passion, which led to Murphy going to Salem, New Hampshire...

5 Marvel Crossovers You Need to Read Asap (And 5 You Should Definitely Avoid)
Image
Throughout their decades of continuity, Marvel Comics has featured countless crossovers and globe-shattering events featuring thousands of characters from across their publishing line. Oftentimes, many these events are held in high regard, while every now and then, a handful of other crossovers just don’t land the way that creators – or fans – may have wanted.

So for every must-read Marvel Comics crossover, there are just as many stories that fans would be better off avoiding entirely. And readers will want as mnuch guidance as possible when it comes to finding the best and worst Marvel Comics crossover events.

Avoid: Avengers & X-Men: Axis By Rick Remender, Adam Kubert, Leinil Francis Yu, & more

After facing off with an Onslaught-powered Red Skull, several of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes find themselves spurred to villainy to varying degrees of success. Source of the infamous and oft-maligned retcon surrounding the familial relationship between Magneto, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch,...

Admit It, Marvel Is Trying to Make Wolverine a Promise It Can Never Keep
Image
Wolverine has been through countless battles, which have left lasting mental scars, and Marvel just made the bold decision to address the long-lasting issue of the adamantium-clawed hero’s mental health – yet sadly, it seems the publisher is making a promise it simply can't keep. Wolverine's healing arc ultimately sets up the X-Men for even greater disappointment and sends a mixed message to readers.

Uncanny X-Men #6 – written by Gail Simone, with art by Javier Garrón – features Rogue pushing Wolverine to accept his Ptsd, setting up an arc of healing and recovery. Addressing Wolverine’s mental health would be a new direction for the hero; however, it goes without saying that Marvel will not allow its most iconic X-Men superhero to go through a permanent drastic shift in character.

One of Wolverine’s defining traits is his hardened attitude, stemming from countless hardships, and Marvel can’t help but continue...

Wolverine Wednesday #81 – 50th Birthday Celebration Part 4
Image
50: Wolverine (v1) #87 W: Larry Hama P: Adam Kubert I: Dan Green C:Marie Javins

This issue was never not going to make the list. I choose it because it centres around Maverick but of course, it is a Wolverine story first and foremost. When I got into collecting Wolverine comics one of the things I wanted to learn about first was the history of Team X. In that regard this issue delivers as it alternates between the past and present. In te present Maverick has contracted the Legacy Virus and is attempting to trick Wolverine into killing him. The flashbacks reveal how Maverick would go to any lengths to complete a mission after Sabretooth has sabotaged their exit route. There are elements in this story that are touched upon in novels and cartoons that I had read before this issue, so to see it in comics was very cool.

It's Official: Marvel's New Avengers Roster Is the Strongest Team We Have Ever Seen Thanks to Magneto
Image
The Avengers have been a staple in the Marvel Universe for decades, and the roster is constantly evolving - which is why it might be surprising to hear that I think the team was at its strongest under Magneto's unexpected leadership. It's hard to top a line-up like Loki, Doctor Doom, Enchantress, Carnage, and even more heavy-hitters, and I believe that the Master of Magnetism recruited the most powerful Avengers ever.

Avengers & X-Men: Axis #2 by Rick Remender and Andy Kubert is one of the tensest events I've read, as Magneto's rage-fueled murder of Red Skull allowed him to become Red Onslaught and begin using Charles Xavier's telepathic strength to spread worldwide hatred. As readers, we all witnessed many of the most talented Avengers and X-Men reduced to failed plans and inadequate powers.

Red Onslaught may have emerged victorious had Magneto not chosen that moment to rewrite the game.

5 Ways Marvel Could Bring Back Chris Evans For Avengers: Doomsday
Image
And we thought "Avengers: Doomsday" bringing back Robert Downey Jr. was Marvel Studios hitting the red emergency button.

Now, it's confirmed that "Doomsday" will also feature the McU's second anchor lead: Chris Evans, last seen as Captain America back in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame."

Evan's post-Cap career hasn't exactly been envious. He was a riot in "Knives Out" and got some good buzz for the Apple TV+ mini-series "Defending Jacob," but since hanging up the shield he's mostly been in sloppy action movies like "The Gray Man," "Ghosted," and "Red One." Compare this to how his Bucky, Sebastian Stan, who is challenging himself with risky roles in films like "The Apprentice," or Chris Hemsworth giving the villain performance of the year as Dementus in "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," or Downey Jr. pulling in an Oscar for "Oppenheimer."

Now, Evans has previously said he'd be resistant to revisiting Captain America after...

When the Evil Iron Man Debuts in the MCU, He Needs to Bring the 'Evil Avengers' With Him
Image
While Iron Man is perhaps the greatest hero in the MCU (and one of the greatest in Marvel Comics), there is a version of him that’s actually a villain, complete with an entire ‘evil Avengers’ team. In fact, not too long ago, many fans were convinced that this corrupt version of Iron Man was going to appear in the MCU. Given the level of outcry, it’s only a matter of time before the MCU brings this Iron Man into the fold for real, and when it does, it must include his ‘evil Avengers’.

The evil Iron Man in question is known as Superior Iron Man, which is what became of Tony Stark during Marvel Comics’ Axis event. In Avengers & X-Men: Axis, the Red Skull harnesses the power of Onslaught, and the Avengers and X-Men team up to take him down. When it became increasingly clear the heroes were going to lose,...

No, Red Hulk's Opposite Is Not the Hulk, And We Have Proof Now
Image
While Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, aka the Red Hulk, may hate the Hulk more than anything else in the world, transforming himself into a reflection of the Hulk, the Green Goliath isn’t his opposite. Ross is no different from the Hulk, frequently giving in to his anger and responding with brute force. However, the son of Mephisto once revealed Ross’s true opposite, and it’s amazingly insulting.

In Venom (2011)’s “Circle of Four” story arc, Red Hulk, Agent Venom, X-23, and Alejandra Jones’s Ghost Rider have teamed up to put down Blackheart and stop his hellish invasion of Earth. When faced with the foul son of Mephisto, Blackheart reveals a sinister mystical mirror that reflects and creates the perfect antithesis of a person’s soul.

Captain America (Sam Wilson): The Marvel Hero's Origin and Powers, Explained
Image
As the MCU slowly nears the release of Captain America: Brave New World, now is a better time than ever to familiarize oneself with Sam Wilsons Captain America. While the character has been around for nearly 60 years, his tenure as Captain America has been comparatively short but significantly more impactful. Despite the overwhelming and unjust critiques Wilson gets, he still serves as a perfect Captain America.

Sam Wilson has a significant amount of historical importance to Marvel Comics. Debuting just a year after Black Panther, the Falcon was Marvels second-ever black superhero. When Stan Lee first introduced Wilson, the prolific writer expressed a desire to keep his stories up to date with significant social movements.

Decades later, Sam Wilson serves a new purpose, showing people both on and off the page a different perspective of an American hero with their own unique struggles and dreams. But before readers can fully explore Captain Americas modern values,...

James Spader's Marvel Return Report Teases A Huge Ultron Twist
Image
Paul Bettany will soon be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprising his role as the Vision, last seen in "WandaVision," in a new TV series centered around the android hero. The first bit of truly exciting news about the project came a few days ago when it was confirmed that the Vision TV series will also see James Spader return to the MCU as Ultron, the robot archnemesis of the Avengers and the Vision's creator.

Spader last appeared as Ultron in writer/director Joss Whedon's 2015 MCU bow-out, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." (Ultron also showed up in the animated series "What If...?" but was voiced by Marvel's go-to understudy Ross Marquand.)

The movie took some liberties with his character, making Tony Stark Ultron's creator, not Hank Pym, and instilling the villain with his "dad's" snarky sense of humor. Spader's performance, though, was rightfully praised. Ultron and Vision's final scene,...

After 12 Years, Wolverine Redefines His Son's Death... By Killing Him Again

Akihiro, possessed by a demon, becomes the Hellverine, leading to a heartbreaking confrontation with Wolverine that results in Akihiro's demise. The redefining aspect of Akihiro's death is that Wolverine tried to save him, when originally, Wolverine meant to kill him, making it all the more tragic.

1 Sentence Convinced Wolverine to Kill His Son (& He Was Right)
Image
Wolverine's loyalty was tested when he was convinced to kill his own son, Akihiro, to save the X-Men from a deadly fate. Despite being haunted by Akihiro's death, Wolverine was right to listen to his future self's warning about his son's murderous intentions. Wolverine's decision to kill Akihiro was a chilling reminder of how one sentence can change the course of history, even within Marvel Comics.

Wolverine is one of the deadliest characters in Marvel Comics canon, though that doesnt apply to those he considers his friends and family, as Logan is viciously protective and fiercely loyal. However, that depiction of Wolverine was flipped on its head the moment he decided to kill his own son, Akihiro, which he was convinced to do with a single sentence.

Deadpool Dated This Unexpected X-Men In Marvel Comics
Image
The first "Deadpool" film was a love story buried underneath an action-comedy. The root of every choice Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) makes is his love for Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin). The two share both many wild love scenes in "Deadpool" and a running in-joke about which of them had the worst childhood. Vanessa can even look past Wade's tumorous skin because she likes the man underneath.

Silver screen Deadpool only has eyes for Vanessa but the comics are a different story. Like most of his fellow superheroes, Deadpool has had many short-lived flings with women from all corners of the Marvel Universe. He's even bested Thanos by catching the eye of Lady Death. Deadpool is an X-Men adjacent character; he's not a mutant, but he debuted in "The New Mutants" and has deep ties to Wolverine and Cable. No surprise, he's dated an X-Woman or two.

Doctor Strange's Avengers Team Would Eat the Original Roster for Breakfast (In Some Cases Literally)
Image
The "Avengers of the Supernatural", led by Doctor Strange, were a powerful and intense team, ready to take on the most horrifying threats in the Marvel Universe but they only existed for a span of pages. Villainous alien TV executive Mojo's pitch for the Avengers of the Supernatural in Uncanny Avengers Annual #1 offered a potentially exciting new team for Marvel Comics, one the publisher should revisit now that it is placing more emphasis on horror and supernatural stories. Marvel should return to the idea of the Supernatural Avengers, a team that combined the forces of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Blade and more to make an incredibly formidable squad.

The supernatural Avengers squad briefly led by Doctor Strange was one of the most intense teams ever assembled in the Marvel Universe, with members that wouldn't hesitate to take a bite out of their counterparts in the main roster often, literally.

Scarlet Witch & Ghost Rider's Romance Revealed Why They're Marvel's Most Forbidden Couple

Scarlet Witch and Ghost Rider's forbidden romance could lead to the birth of a world-destroying demon child. Fans are eager to see Marvel explore the idea of this immensely powerful offspring in a supernatural storyline. If Ghost Rider and Scarlet Witch did have a child, it would result in an epic 'versus' story between the two characters.

When considering Marvel Comics supernatural side, there are two characters who arguably stand out as the most powerful: Scarlet Witch and Ghost Rider. Therefore, the idea of the two of them together romantically sounds awesome, as theyd literally be Marvels most Op power couple. 10 Best Captain America Stories in Marvel History, Ranked

"The Captain" storyline sees Steve Rogers step down as Captain America due to government obligations, showcasing his independence and principled spirit. "Castaway in Dimension Z" takes Cap on a sci-fi adventure in an alternate dimension, highlighting his struggle as a new father and survivor. Captain America is one of Marvels oldest and best superheroes. From his debut punching Hitler in the face in 1941 Captain America Comics #1, Marvels patriotic hero has made his impact on the comic book world thanks to the tireless efforts of hundreds of writers and artists over the decades.

With over eighty years of comics to draw from, stretching all the way back to when Joe Simon and Jack Kirby first introduced him to the world, Cap is certainly not hurting for great stories.

"I Thought I Heard My Butt Screaming": Marvel Settled the McU's Thanos Butt Theory in the Grossest Way Possible
Image
Marvel disproved the "Thanus" theory several years before Avengers: Endgame, showing that it wouldn't work against Luke Cage. Luke Cage's superhuman biology, including his steel skin, allowed him to contain Ant-Man's rapid growth, rendering the tactic ineffective. The theory gained attention among MCU fans online, prompting Disney to address it in a short film, but its failure against Luke Cage suggests it may not have worked against Thanos either.

"Thanus," or the theory that Ant-Man could have defeated Thanos by flying up his butt and growing to massive size, exploding the villain from within, became popular among MCU fans in the lead-up to the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019 – but as it turned out, Marvel had already settled just how feasible this plan was several years earlier.

“Fear Agent” on Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video continues developing the Image Comics title "Fear Agent", by Rick Remender and Tony Moore as a live-action TV series, to be directed by David F. Sandberg ("Shazam"):

"...the 'Fear Agents' are no more. Once known throughout the universe for driving three invading alien races from Earth, they stood as a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

"Many Times the Speed of Light": Marvel's Fastest Hero Makes Flash Look Like an Underachiever
Image
Sentry's powers allow him to alter reality on a molecular level, granting him unsurpassed speed. The upgraded Sentry, powered by a Death Seed, is even more powerful, and exceeded the speed of light several times over while dragging Thor. Unlike the Flash, who experiences physical limitations at ultra-high speeds, Sentry has no limits because of how he warps reality.

While the Flash is generally known as the fastest superhero of all time, there is one Marvel character who may be his equal - or even faster. However, as is typical when it gets to the maximum strength of superhero powers, the answer is so extreme, it depends who can bend the laws of reality furthest without breaking them.

In Rick Remender, Daniel Acuña and Clayton Cowles' Uncanny Avengers #10, the titular team face some of the most powerful figures in Marvel history. The Grim Reaper, Banshee, and Wolverine's son Daken...

Kang Beat the Avengers Worse Than Thanos for 1 Reason - He's a Human
Image
Kang the Conqueror defeated the Avengers in the major "Kang Dynasty" storyline by spreading them too thin and forcing major powers to surrender. Kang humiliated the Avengers by making the Wasp sign the articles of surrender, breaking their spirits in a way Thanos never did. While Thanos has defeated the Avengers in more obvious ways, Kang's victory is significant because of the human element involved.

Kang the Conqueror and Thanos are two of the Avengers' most powerful villains – and while both have gotten the best of Earth's Mightiest Heroes before, Kang's defeat of the team stands as the most significant, with one thing in particular setting him and his actions apart from the Mad Titan – Kang is human.

“Kang Dynasty” was a massive Avengers storyline running from 2001-2002, encompassing over a dozen issues. It was authored by Kurt Busiek, with art by Kieron Dwyer, Rick Remender, Tom Smith, and many more.

Death Seed Sentry: How Marvel's Superman Unlocked His Most Powerful Form
Image
While the Sentry is already known as Marvel's most powerful hero - the closest the House of Ideas has to its own Superman - even he has the potential to become something greater. This was proved when Celestial technology brought him back from the dead and gave him full control of his powers as an official Horseman of Death. But how did Sentry undergo this transformation, and how powerful was he during this period?

In Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña's Uncanny Avengers #9, the Sentry is resurrected by the Apocalypse Twins and empowered with a Celestial Death Seed, becoming one of four Horsemen of Death Having previously died in the Siege event, Sentry found that for the first time, he was free of his evil alternate persona the Void, and so no longer had to restrict his powers. Deadpool Officially Calls Out 1 Marvel Character as a "Derivative Piece of @$#%?!"
Image
Never one to pull his punches, Deadpool is calling out one of his own publisher's characters as a derivative rip-off. Interestingly, the insult happens in a series from Wade Wilson's famously outspoken original co-creator Rob Liefeld, suggesting that rather than an offhand remark, it may actually be a sincere criticism of the antihero.

In a preview of Liefeld, Chad Bowers, Jay David Ramos and Joe Sabino's Deadpool: Badder Blood #3, Wade takes on Venompool - a monstrous version of the Merc with a Mouth who has combined with the Venom symbiote. While battling the attacker and searching for his X-Force team, Wade curses out his doppelganger, addressing the character as "you derivative piece of @$#%?!" It seems Wade isn't happy to see himself merged with Venom, especially if the monster was used to kill his friends.

Wolverine & Captain America's New Team-Up Redefines Their Friendship
Image
Few heroes have been active as long as Wolverine and Captain America. The two of them met while World War II was raging, and they faced a lot of battles together as both allies and enemies. Things haven't always been rosy between the two, and they've had their fair share of ups and downs over nearly a century. Now, hundreds of thousands of mutants are dead or exiled thanks to Orchis' Mutant Massacre, and Logan still has an ongoing plight with Legacy House - villainous auctioneers who sold his severed hand. Thankfully, Cap is stepping up to have his back, giving them a closer relationship than ever.

The recent solicitation for Wolverine #38 by Benjamin Percy, Juan Jose Ryp, Frank D'Armata and Cory Petit promises that Steve and Logan are "those old friends that go way, way back who you can always rely on." Historically, that hasn't been the case for the two of them,...

Every Terminator Model Uses a Real-World Google Feature to Trick Humans
Image
The T-x might be one of the most advanced Terminator models Skynet has ever built, but a modern-day technological feature provided a crucial element in its mission to eliminate the John Connor-led Resistance.

The comic tie-in issues Terminator 3 #3-#4 by Miles Gunter, Mike Hawthorne, Rick Remender, Giulia Brusco, Richard Starkings, and Jimmy Bentancourt retell the story depicted in the 2003 film Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, wherein Skynet sends its most efficient killing machine to the past to target John Connor's future friends and allies. However, in the comic book all the scenes in which the T-x is present are told from the perspective of a Terminator. In fact, the only dialog uttered is what the T-x would have likely heard or observed from its own vantage point.

10 Avengers Killed by Embarrassingly Z-List Villains
Image
The Avengers are Earth's Mightiest Heroes, representing the best of the best, drawn from the cream of the superhero crop. When existential threats to the world or humanity present themselves, the Avengers are the team called upon to meet the challenge - and sometimes sacrifice their lives. However, not all of these deaths have come at the hands of villains as notable as Doctor Doom or Thanos - often, an Avenger has met their end facing an enemy from the most obscure corners of Marvel continuity.

Marvel regularly introduces new villains for its myriad heroes to battle. While some of these become foundational elements of Marvel, like Magneto or Red Skull, a magnitude more languish in obscurity. This isn't to say they aren't dangerous - unknown villains can still pose a deadly threat, and even command the power of a god - but that they're such unknowns, it's shocking Marvel...

12 Marvel Characters We Think Could Be the Mysterious "New Punisher"
Image
Marvel recently announced there will be a new Punisher taking the mantle from Frank Castle, the identity of who will be revealed during San Diego Comic Con. The official announcement is coming July 21 during the 'Marvel: Heroes, Hulks and Super-Soldiers' panel, but who are the best candidates to take up the skull?

Teased in a Tweet from Marvel promising a brand new Punisher (below), this unidentified character will be taking over for Frank Castle following the events of the latest Punisher series by Jason Aaron, Jesus Saiz and Paul Azaceta. That series saw the Punisher recruited by the Hand ninja clan, where he became the Fist of the Beast, donning an all-new skull logo and trading his guns for katana and demonic superpowers. That series ended with Frank stranded in the alternate dimension Weirdworld, swearing off his former codename. Punisher is Marvel's deadliest and most driven hero, so it will...

20 Most Powerful X-Force Members - Marvel's Deadliest Mutants Ranked
Image
X-Force was first formed in 1991 by the mutant Cable alongside radicalized members of the New Mutants. This outlaw band of former X-Men affiliates sought to protect mutantkind from threats in a manner that wasn't conducive to the rule of law. In the years since, X-Force has gained a sanctioned status from the X-Men leadership, currently serving as Krakoa's intelligence and black-ops team, though their purpose continues to be one steeped in moral ambiguity and violence. While this grim work is over necessary, it has also resulted in X-Force becoming a haven for some of the deadliest mutants in Marvel.

Not only are X-Force's members more often than not capable and willing to undertake lethal measures, but they've counted among their ranks some of Marvel's most powerful mutants. Whether through extensive training, access to advanced technology, or sheer force of their mutant gifts, some of X-Force's members stand out as the...

Wolverine & Deadpool's Most Iconic Ally Is Finally Back - With a New Look
Image
A gorgeous Hellfire Gala variant cover for Deadpool #9 by artist Nick Dragotta brings back super-thief Fantomex - a former member of Wolverine's Uncanny X-Force team - in his first appearance in almost three years.

Fantomex - also known as Charlie Cluster-7, Jean-Phillipe, and Weapon Xiii - is a creation of the Weapon Plus Project. Fantomex was developed as a mutant-killing superhero in the World - an experimental micro-reality where time passes faster - but rebelled and became an ally of the X-Men in his debut in 2002's New X-Men #128.

With the X-Men's third annual Hellfire Gala fast approaching, Marvel has unveiled a whole slew of Hellfire Gala Variant Covers celebrating the dramatic and fashion-forward event, and Nick Dragotta's Fantomex cover for Deadpool #9 - from Alyssa Wong and Luigi Zagaria - is the perfect representation of how Jean-Phillipe would show up to the Gala... aloof, flirty, and with a style all his own.

Avengers’ Most Powerful Hero Ever Can Finally Return in Marvel Canon
Image
Possibly the most powerful Avenger ever died shortly after gaining his powers, but now that the X-Men are resurrecting humans there is no reason he can't return to the Marvel Universe. Dennis Sykes, also known as Flux, died not long after saving the galaxy from one of Marvel's largest characters, making his time as an Avenger an important but minuscule blip in the history of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Since launching the mutant nation of Krakoa, the X-Men have been able to resurrect the dead through what they call the Resurrection Protocols. However, this is initially only used to resurrect mutants. That is, until the events of the A.X.E. Judgment Day miniseries by Kieron Gillen, Valerio Schiti, Marte Gracia, and Clayton Cowles, when Nightcrawler uses the protocols to resurrect Captain America, whom he deems worthy. Since then, they have opened up the Resurrection Protocols to bring back more non-mutants.

Why Steve Rogers' Son Will Never Replace Him as Captain America
Image
Steve Rogers' adopted son Ian Rogers aka Nomad knows that he won’t be the next Captain America, and he's perfectly fine with that. Nomad is a very complicated man with his own sense of justice but has a profound respect for his father’s legacy. However, Steve Rogers himself decides to tell his adopted son why he will not pass the mantle of Captain America to him.

Following the events of 2015’s Secret Wars, Nomad winds up stranded in a New York City controlled by Hydra, which is run by the villainous supercomputer Arnim Zola. The 2015 miniseries Hail Hydra by Rick Remender and Roland Boschi sees Nomad meet up with the former Avengers, now known as the Resistance, which consists of Tony Stark, Daredevil, Nick Fury and his own father, Steve Rogers. Even after Nomad gains the trust of the heroes, the Hydra Avengers attack and kill most of the heroes including Captain America.
