The city of Rimini is known for its famous son, Federico Fellini, the genius director behind the likes of La Dolce Vita and Nights of Cabiria, but it’s now home to the Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf) too. The first edition of the fest has been taking place this week, bringing the likes of The Assassins, Sandokan and Bookish to the sunny seaside locale.
Given the growing number of TV festivals around the world, launching something new is always a challenge, and we were keen to hear from Marco Spagnoli, the Artistic Director of the Igsf about how this first attempt has been going, ahead of the event’s finish this weekend. “I feel like when Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were on the moon,” was one assessment of the whirlwind proceedings from the engaging programmer and film director.

Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has said he forgives “those who rushed to judgment” before the results of his legal cases, but won’t work with those people in future.
The comments came during an on-stage interview today at the Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf) in Rimini, where the actor said he was “incredibly excited about going back to work in a substantial way.”
Asked by Igsf Artistic Director Marco Spagnoli about how his legal issues have changed him, Spacey said: “These experiences have allowed me to stop, assess, reassess and listen, and be very grateful for the work I’m able to do both on screen and off screen.
“I’m filled with gratitude for those in my industry who stood by me, those individuals who were willing to wait for an outcome in the courts before they decided how they felt about me. Those people have my trust,...

Launching later this month, the Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf) marks the long-awaited revival of the dormant RomaFictionFest, now with a spiffier, Riviera-side setting and a more ambitious remit. Running June 21–28 along the Adriatic beachfront between Rimini and Riccione, the revamped event signals more than a simple rebrand for a venerable TV showcase last seen in 2016.
“When Roma went dark, Italian drama lost its home,” says Igsf artistic director Marco Spagnoli. “We lost a place to spotlight our talent and connect creators from different backgrounds and storytelling traditions. In today’s fragmented, content-saturated world, a curated festival is more vital than ever—not just to champion great shows, but to foster real collaboration.”
Indeed, the original festival played a pivotal role in launching breakout Italian hits like “Gomorrah” and “The Mafia Kills Only in Summer,” while serving as a bridge between local talent and the international market. After winning best...

In 1993, David Lynch quietly traveled to Italy to pay his final respects to his Rimini-born inspiration, Federico Fellini.
Three decades later, the Rimini-based Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf) will honor the late American master with louder fanfare, presenting a tribute called “The Light of David Lynch” that includes a screening of the “Twin Peaks” pilot in a 600-seat open-air venue just 100 meters from the theater where Fellini first discovered cinema.
“Lynch and Fellini even shared the same birthday, January 20,” explains Igsf artistic director Marco Spagnoli. “Being in Fellini’s city, it felt essential for our inaugural edition to pay tribute to that profound cinematic, ethical, and spiritual connection between these two great artists.”
The tribute, organized by Carlo Chatrian, director of Italy’s National Film Museum and former chief of the Berlin and Locarno film festivals, and Dennis Lim, head of the New York Film Festival and Lynch biographer, centers...

Organized by Italy’s Audiovisual Producers Association (APA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Siae (the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers), the Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf) is designed to welcome international productions and talent while establishing globally oriented frameworks for the domestic industry.
The initiative marks a major step forward for the Italian television sector, building on the momentum generated since the last edition of RomaFictionFest in 2016.
“Italy has finally moved beyond viewing television as cinema’s poor cousin,” says Chiara Sbarigia, president of both APA and Cinecittà. “The quality of our series deserves cultural recognition, which is why the Igsf has been reborn. The festival will play a crucial role in putting Italian TV production in the global spotlight.”
To that end, the inaugural edition will feature two competitive tracks: international productions will vie for jury-awarded prizes across comedy, drama, and limited series categories, while...

Italian drama event – the Italian Global Series Festival – kicks off this summer with a new awards offering. The Igsf organizers told Deadline they hope winning one of their new accolades will become the Italian equivalent of landing an Emmy. The U.S. has various awards for TV, the UK has the BAFTAs, France has the Césars, Spain the Goyas and so on. With Igsf’s Maximos, Italy’s TV folk will have a new chance to get their hands on some awards hardware.
Location and timing are crucial for any festival. The Igsf will be held in Riccione and Rimini in June – two popular summer beachside locales. Its first edition will feature nine world premieres including Italian dramas Alex Bravo, Poliziotto A Modo Suo and Noi Del Rione Sanità from Italy, epic Euro co-production Rise of the Raven, Spanish language drama Los Sin Nombre, and Who Almost Killed Melody? from Canada.

A new high-profile event dedicated to global TV series is being launched in Italy with “Bridgerton” star Adjoa Andoh, Evangeline Lilly (“Lost”) and Italy’s ‘Godfather of Disco’ Giorgio Moroder on board to be feted with career awards.
