Ben Affleck jumped back into action earlier this year with his acclaimed, high-octane new sequel, The Accountant 2, pairing him up with Jon Bernthal for a bigger and badder adventure for Christian Wolff. Next month, though, Hulu subscribers will be able to look back on one of the actor's best films that earned Best Picture honors at the Academy Awards for its story of a CIA agent posing as a film producer in an attempt to rescue six Americans. Released in 2012, the smash hit also paired him up with an ensemble packed with massive stars, from Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston to Bosch's Titus Welliver. The historical political spy thriller Argo is one of several new films coming to the Disney-owned streaming service starting on August 1.

As 'Superman' Soars in Theaters, Some of DC's Most Underrated Heroes Shine in a New Super Powers Set
James Gunn's Superman featured a ton of great and relatively unknown DC superheroes – at least where mainstream moviegoers were concerned. These heroes included Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Guy Gardner's Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion). However, this debut Dcu film was just the tip of the iceberg for what will hopefully be a whole world full of colorful Justice League members. Now, as Superman continues to be a major success at the box office, McFarlane Toys has debuted their next wave of DC Comics figures.
A part of McFarlane's nostalgic Super Powers line, there are four new 4.5-inch-tall figures for DC fans to clamor over. This includes Animal Man, Cyborg, Deadman, and Nightwing all in their classic comic looks. They join a long lineup of Super Powers figures that have featured heroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, alongside villains like Lobo, The Riddler and Sinestro. McFarlane...

Following the success of Superman, fans are eager to see who else will enter the Dcu. While many names have already been confirmed, there are plenty of characters in this superhero franchise that are under speculation. One notable team is Teen Titans, which has found success over the years as a children's show program. But as the DC Studios prepares to expand its roster, James Gunn has some unfortunate news if you were hoping to see this group on the big screen anytime soon.
Over on Threads, Gunn responded to a fan who wanted to audition for the role of Beast Boy in the Dcu. The superhero filmmaker gave a direct response, saying that they're not casting anyone for the role. This is the second time Gunn has addressed casting rumors for DC's Teen Titans project, as the filmmaker debunked claims that casting would begin sometime in the fall.

The world of film entertainment knows Zack Snyder for the director's unmatched ability to weave lengthy storylines. Oftentimes, audiences don't get to see the entirety of the work, but with his Netflix sci-fi franchise, Rebel Moon, they get to see quite a lot. Since stepping aside from the DC Universe, the sci-fi franchise has become the director's most popular and profitable. The first film, Rebel Moon: Part One — A Child of Fire, was released in December 2023, and was followed a few months later in 2024 by the sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. The Rebel Moon films follow a human colony on the outskirts of the universe that finds itself the target of a much larger enemy. To resist and fight subjugation, they rely on a small band of rebels, with one being a famed officer with the tyrannical ruling force.

Despite seemingly wanting to create his own Star Wars and build an ever-growing franchise brimming with sequels and spin-offs, it’s been pretty quiet when it comes to Zack Snyder and the future of the Netflix action sci-fi epic series, Rebel Moon. Until now. The divisive director has now finally teased the future of the equally divisive franchise while revealing the first look at the upcoming Rebel Moon video game tie-in, Blood Line (for which you can check out the new trailer below).

Citing “uptown problems,” the director revealed that, while he’s busy right now with an action thriller for Netflix, he has “tons of stories in mind” when it comes what’s next for Rebel Moon.

James Gunn could be taking us to Themyscira sooner than expected. The Dcu-head told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman movie is "being written right now." He clarifies this is different from the Paradise Lost prequel series at HBO that will be about the Amazons of Themyscira. That project, Gunn says, is "slow moving, but it's moving." Gunn also tells Entertainment Weekly that Wonder Woman has not yet been cast. All this ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Superman movie from Gunn's Dcu, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Gunn notes that in terms of looking to four of the bigger players in the Dcu: Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman, "I wouldn't say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we're dealing with the other two.

It's safe to say 2003 wasn't the best of years for Ben Affleck, as he was the face of several critically panned films, including Daredevil and the historically bad Gigli alongside then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. However, another dud from that year has garnered newfound momentum on streaming, with Paycheck becoming a Netflix hit.
Per Flix Patrol, Paycheck, a sci-fi action blockbuster starring Affleck alongside Uma Thurman, is on Netflix's top 10 movies chart at the time of writing, locked in at #6 after accumulating 376 points since its Jun. 1 debut. The film joins a list that's topped by Widow's Game and also features Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Nonnas and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
What Is Paycheck About?
Directed by John Woo, Paycheck sees Affleck play Michael Jennings, a top reverse engineer who specializes in helping corporations figure out the secrets behind their competitors' products. After doing the deed, he erases his memory to avoid remembering his acts.

Despite having “always been pitched as an anthology,” True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto said the show is perhaps not quite done with Season 1’s Cohle and Hart.
Speaking on a recent episode of Tim Green’s Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, the four-time Emmy-nominated showrunner said that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson would be “open” to reprising their roles, though a script has not yet been written.
“I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we’ll do it one day,” he began, adding that he didn’t feel beholden to continuing the inaugural season’s storyline: “But no, there is pressure, but I don’t really feel or respond to pressure that way. I get pressure [from] myself and beyond that it doesn’t exist so much for me and pressure tends to more revolve around, am I discharging my duty correctly for me?”

Firefly creator Joss Whedon may have fallen from grace after the serious accusations against him, but his creative genius in the Western space show won over many fans. While the ratings of the show during its run did not do justice to its quality, it only rose in popularity in the following 23 years. A key detail about the cast speaks volumes about Whedon’s work.
The stars of the show, Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk, have all gone on to build great careers in successful sci-fi projects. It meant that the 2002 show could’ve gone places if Fox provided favorable conditions for its run. Sadly, the cult show didn’t get enough support from Fox from the get-go.

James Gunn's newly rebooted superhero universe, nicknamed the Dcu (for DC Universe), is set to launch on July 11, 2025, with the release of "Superman," yet another live-action feature film to star the Man of Steel. The people looking forward to "Superman" are likely uninterested in recalling the decade-long debacle that was the Dceu (that is: the DC Extended Universe), the 16-film cycle spearheaded by director Zack Snyder. The Dceu began with the release of the not-at-all-good "Man of Steel" in 2013 and chugged along until the release of the even-worse "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" in 2023. In between, there was at least one great film ("Shazam!"), one good film ("Wonder Woman"), and a lot of tiresome trash.
The Dceu had a lot of defenders, but not enough to make it equal the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney's superhero film...

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon gets a positive progress report from one of its screenwriters amid the franchise's continued expansion. Co-writer of the first two movies, Kurt Johnstad, hints at the titular space opera film series only getting started as he hopes Netflix gives the green light to more installments soon.

Ben Affleck was on set filming his upcoming movie Animals doing what appeared to be a dramatic scene…but it was the hint of skin on his back that caught some attention!
The 52-year-old actor filmed at the river in Los Angeles on Monday (April 14), where he appeared to be angry and throw a bag to the ground. In addition, there appeared to he bullet-like holes in the back of his shirt.
When Ben bent over to pick up the bag, his shirt lifted and some of the bare skin on his back was exposed. What looked to be a black-and-white tattoo peeked through.
You may remember, back in 2015, it was discovered that Ben had a huge, super colorful phoenix back tattoo. This, however, looks quite different.

Ben Affleck is back in action for a new Netflix movie called Animals, and thanks to new set footage, fans have been given a first look at the upcoming thriller. The project is one of two films he's starring in and producing through Artists Equity, the joint company he has with long-time friend and collaborator Matt Damon, and the fourth he's starred in for the streaming platform. Filming began in early March of this year, but new on-set photos taken in the LA River reveal the gritty action side of this political thriller, as reported by What's On Netflix.
Animals was originally supposed to star Affleck's forever friend Matt Damon but it's suspected scheduling conflicts prevented the collaboration. Nathan Fillion’s single-season cult show, Firefly, left a lasting impression on fans. Fox canceled the show after airing eleven out of its fourteen produced episodes. When all of these episodes were later made available for viewers, they wanted more out of this cowboy space drama. There were demands for a revival even two decades after its airing.
On paper, Fox couldn’t justify the huge budget of the show with its below-average ratings. Without giving it another chance, Fox decided to pull the plug by airing another hit pilot, Fastlane. However, it didn’t take much longer for fans to figure out that Fox had made a huge mistake.

Joss Whedon hated every vampire show that came after his seminal work, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reason, though it has some truth to it, will raise your eyebrow since it came from Whedon. The creator explained that the central female characters in works like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries had more of a passive role in their respective stories, unlike Buffy.
Whedon’s protagonist, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, was not just at the center of Buffy‘s plot, but she was also instrumental in driving it. She is a descendant of the Vampire Slayers, who battle vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness.

Ben Affleck’s reign as Batman in Zack Snyder’s DC Universe might have proven relatively short-lived, but in a new interview, the multi-hyphenate shared how that ill-fated run impacted other things beyond just his acting. That includes, in part, the formation of his production company Artists Equity.

There have been a lot of rough DC Comics movies but which ones are truly the worst of the worst?
DC started early on the superhero movie trend with 1978’s Superman and later 1989’s Batman. However, despite successes like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the Dceu faltered compared to the MCU. Somehow, Warner Bros and DC couldn’t make it all work right and it all came to a lame ending.
There have been some pretty poor to outright bad movies based on DC Comics such as Batman v Superman or The Flash. However, there are several films that stand out for how truly awful they are and leave us thinking they shouldn't have happened. They waste great casts and story potential while also being just flat-out terrible movies.
Here are how the ten worst DC Comics movies rank and marvel (no pun intended) on how badly they botched these characters.

Zack Snyder thanked the fans for making the Snyder Cut happen, four years after it was released. He's humbled to know his Justice League movie exists, acknowledging its troubled production.
Zack Snyder's Justice League celebrates its 4th anniversary this year, thanks to its dedicated fan base; Snyder took to X to thank everyone responsible for that success. "It's been 4 years," he wrote. "Still humbled by the fact that this exists at all. Big thanks to all of you that made it happen. If you have a spare 4 hours, go give it a watch on Max." The post spurred overwhelming support, with many requesting that Snyder finish the saga in the comments. His original vision for the Dceu was a five-film arc fleshed out by Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a Justice League trilogy.

Gal Gadot rose to prominence with her debut in Fast & Furious (2009) with her relatively small role in the fourth film of the franchise. Her recurring role in the subsequent Fast films made her a familiar face but it wasn’t until Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) that she attained fame and popularity unparalleled on a global scale.

However, Snyder’s DC Extended Universe has always been mired in controversy and it reflected poorly on all the actors involved with the trilogy. The grimdark vision of the DC filmmaker was further brought under scrutiny when WarnerMedia brought in Joss Whedon to finish Snyder’s rough cut of the film after the latter’s exit in 2017.

When Malcolm Washington was working his first movie job — as a camera production assistant on Jon Favreau’s 2014 Chef — he struck up a friendship with Roy Choi, the film’s food consultant. As a lifelong Angeleno, Washington, 33, was a huge fan of Choi’s restaurants, and the two bonded over their shared experience of being new to a movie set (apart, of course, from Malcolm visiting his dad, Denzel Washington, at work as a kid).
“We didn’t stay in touch, because I was just a P.A.,” says Washington. But a decade later, he was celebrating picture lock on his directorial debut and decided to treat himself to dinner at a sushi bar. When he sat down at the only open seat, he found himself next to Choi: “I told him, ‘I just finished my first movie as a director 20 minutes ago,’ and he said, ‘I always knew you’d do something.

Serialized television has been around for decades, but for many, it hit its peak with the 1997 cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the burgeoning feminist movement of the '90s, the horror comedy series hit the sweet spot of cable television. A high school drama wrapped in the metaphors of monsters, Buffy was the first show to do a lot of things. Putting an unlikely hero to the forefront, Buffy Summers saves her Southern California town from vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. It mixes the ever-popular monster of the week format with long-form storytelling that gets to the heart of what it means to be human.
Buffy stands the test of time and is a frequent source of nostalgia for many fans.

On one level, the return of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with Sarah Michelle Gellar — the news of which Variety broke today — is the most 2020s thing that could happen. Updating a beloved TV series from the last four decades with at least some of the original cast has become a central pillar of our current popular culture. From “And Just Like That” on Max to “That ’90s Show” on Netflix to “Star Trek: Picard,” “Frasier” and whatever new version of “Dexter” is streaming on Paramount+, we’re habitually invited now to live in updated versions of our TV pasts.
A new “Buffy,” however, feels more totemic. There are all the TV history reasons, of course: Dismissed when it premiered on the nascent network The WB in 1997 as a mid-season replacement, “Buffy” rapidly roundhouse kicked itself into the vanguard of both television form and content. One of the most divisive movies in the entire Dceu is now available to stream for free, as 2017's Justice League joins Tubi's content library. During the mid-late 2010s, Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios were locked in a battle for the best cinematic shared universe. While the MCU was the clear favorite, the Dceu didn't back down, rushing head first to establish the Justice League on the big screen. The film starred Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman (both returning from their face-off in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice), Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash, with J.K. Simmons portraying Commissioner Gordon and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

Fans can’t believe that some of the most brilliant films of 2024 were ignored by the Academy altogether. Before the 2025 nomination list was announced on January 23, some of these films were the most popular contenders in some categories. However, the Academy didn’t even consider Zendaya’s Challengers, Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl, or Kirsten Dunst’s Babygirl for an award.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introduced a great number of DC Universe heroes to live-action, and the most ignored hero that would go on to feature in Justice League was given one of the most compelling introductions. While there is much to love about the Dceu, the franchise faced pressure to quickly introduce many of its characters, leading to a theatrical cut of Justice League that felt underdeveloped. This has led the new Dcu to prioritize even Teen Titans before another Justice League film. However, much of the Dceu worked, especially a few particular hero introductions.
Looking at ranking the heroes in the Dceu, many of the best characters came about early in the franchise. Following the success of Man of Steel, Warner Bros. rushed to put their Justice League cast together, introducing nearly all of them at least briefly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. All of...

While The Piano Lesson primarily centers around the Charles family, their lineage, and the treasured piano they possess, there is an unassuming yet vividly present character who plays a pivotal role in uncovering the family’s history: Lymon Jackson. In Malcolm Washington’s new feature film adaptation of the landmark August Wilson play, the earnest and bright-eyed Lymon, played with true sincerity by Ray Fisher, is tasked with helping his childhood friend Boy Willie (John David Washington) in his quest to acquire the piano from his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) and reclaim the land where the Charles ancestors once lived. “For Lymon, I think the piano itself symbolizes what it is that Lymon’s ultimately after, which is a family of his own,” says Fisher. Bringing the role to the screen feels like a full-circle moment for Fisher, an actor who first earned rave reviews as Muhammad Ali in the...

Sometimes, in the grand shuffle of Hollywood casting decisions, it feels like a game of musical chairs—when the music stops, you’re left holding a character you’ve barely had a chance to make your own. Jason Momoa’s recent announcement that he’s officially joining James Gunn’s DC Universe as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo is a perfect example.

It’s like watching a quarterback swap jerseys mid-game—unexpected, but full of possibility. And it’s got us wondering: if Momoa can bounce from Aquaman to Lobo, why can’t Henry Cavill play the role of his dreams? After all, he earlier expressed his favorite villain as Brainiac, the ultimate foe of Superman.
Cavill made his Superman debut in Man of Steel back in 2013, and it was clear from the get-go that this was a man who gets the character.

The Dceu was dark, but the introductory scene for Cyborg was absolutely wild, with a brief but traumatic cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Dceu had more than its fair share of issues. Despite a promising start in 2013 with Man of Steel, it wasn't long until the entire universe began to fall to pieces. And one of the core issues was how abruptly and rapidly the universe tried to introduce a team of heroes without any real context.
In fact, in the second movie of the entire Dceu, the film featured a gratuitous cameo sequence that left all the action of the film behind to essentially set up trailers for upcoming hero movies. Bruce Wayne makes contact with Wonder Woman, and sends over files that he procured from Lex Luthor which reveal a first glimpse of the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and presumably Wonder Woman herself, though her clip is not shown.

Jason Momoa joins James Gunn's Dcu as Lobo, and it gives me hope that Henry Cavill could also get recast and find redemption after his time as Superman abruptly ended. The Dceu had a promising start with Man of Steel, but the universe cratered after several flops left viewers disinterested in the universe. While Gunn's Dcu could be the fresh start DC needs, it's unfortunate that so many cast members had their time in certain roles cut short. One of the biggest disappointments with the Dceu is what happened to Cavill's Superman.
Cavill's Superman only got one solo film before collaborating with other heroes in Batman V. Superman. He returned in Justice League, but it was unclear what his future looked like following the crossover film. After Cavill returned again for a brief post-credit scene in Black Adam, audiences had hoped he'd return for a possible Man of Steel 2. Unfortunately,...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a monster-hunting fantasy series that ran from 1997-2003; it's been over a for a long time now, but in an age of constant reboots and revivals, it's surprising that it's never come back in one form or another. "Into every generation a slayer is born," we're told in the intro. It's been over 20 years. Where's the next one?
Well, there actually was a reboot in development at one time, executive produced by original Buffy creator Joss Whedon with Monica Owusu-Breen serving as showrunner. But so far as we can tell, it's dead. Why? Well, it might have something to do with Whedon being excommunicated from Hollywood after allegations of his toxic workplace behavior surfaced, with multiple stars on his shows and movies — among them Justice League star Ray Fisher and Angel star Charisma Carpenter — coming forward. Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original star on Buffy the Vampire Slayer,...

If you haven’t heard, Jason Momoa has been officially cast as Lobo in the Dcu and will reportedly make his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which I wrote about here. It’s exciting news as fans have said Momoa is the perfect choice with some even comparing the appropriateness of the casting to Robert Downey Junior’s Iron Man. Gunn has said he was open to casting old Dceu actors in roles for the Dcu and has made good on his word. Now that the door is open, let’s take other actors from the Dceu and cast them in the fresh Dcu.
Ray Fisher - Cyborg
Give the man another shot. He absolutely deserves it. His role in Justice League was cut down exponentially for the theatrical cut. In fact, so much was cut or changed that Ray Fisher even said there was only a single scene...
