The 14 Best Horror Movies About Grief
Image
Grief is a common thread in many horror films. It often plays a minor role in the film, or as you'll see from our list, grief lies at the heart of a film's emotional core. It drives the story forward and grounds the character(s) in realism when spooky things start to happen. In dealing with the supernatural, the occult, a masked killer, or any manner of other genre foes, the protagonists learn how to finally process their grief and slay their demons. The external forces are sometimes the least of their worries.

For the sake of our list, we take a look at grief as a direct response to death. Grief, as we know, can result from any sort of loss, from the death of a pet to a lost friendship. Below, we picked through decades of films to compile the 14 best titles depicting grief, each possessing a mood and approach all their own.

Pro surfer Sage Erickson all smiles in a checkered bikini
Image

Pro surfer Sage Erickson seemed to enjoy catching some rays while beach-side, taking a little break from her usual routine of hitting the waves for board time.

The 31-year-old native Californian soaked up some rays from the hot summer sun as she sprawled out on a sandy beach to get her vitamin D session in gear.

Sage, who captured her first Championship Tour victory in 2017 at the Vans US Open of Surfing after a long five-year battle to prove herself in the surfing world, looked sunkissed to perfection as she showed off her toned abs and lean legs while laying flat on her back on the oceanside turf.

Joining fellow surfers like Alana Blanchard in giving fans a bit more of an eye-full with her latest post, Sage worked it for the camera, letting...

How Surfer Sage Erickson Caught Feelings for MLB Player Daniel Norris
Daniel Norris
Sage Erickson is catching waves—and feelings—this summer. For the next week, the professional surfer will compete for her third win at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif. And while all eyes will be on the 31-year-old as she surfs her way to another potential victory, some are just as invested in her romance with MLB player Daniel Norris. "He's just incredible," Sage exclusively shared with E! News from Surf City. "We actually met on Instagram when Instagram suggested three people to follow when you're browsing and he was one of them." After Daniel posted a photo of some surfboards, Sage said she decided to slide into his DMs first....

NBC Cancels ‘Ellen’s Game of Games’ After Four Seasons
Image
NBC and Ellen DeGeneres will not be teaming up again for another season of fun and games. “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which has aired on the network for four seasons, has been canceled, Variety has confirmed. This coincides with the conclusion of the comedian’s award-winning daytime talk show, slated to end this upcoming spring with Season 19.

DeGeneres served as host and executive producer of the one-hour alternative series, which included supersized versions of some of the most popular games from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The series also features Stephen “tWitch” Boss who, with DeGeneres, oversaw the contestants playing different games over four rounds. The winner of each round advanced to the “Know or Go” stage, and the winner of that round proceeded to “Hot Hands” for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize.

The move to end the spinoff series isn’t entirely surprising, given that DeGeneres’ current contract ends this year.

‘Ellen’s Game of Games’ Canceled At NBC After Four Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Ellen DeGeneres’ game show Ellen’s Game of Games is not coming back to NBC.

Deadline understands that the fourth season of the unscripted primetime series will be its last on the network.

The series launched with an eight-episode order in 2017 and its fourth season, which debuted in October 2020 and ran through May 2021, featured 20 episodes.

The family friendly format had previously been a strong performer for the network – tying for fourth among all primetime entertainment programs on broadcast with kids and ranking as primetime’s number one game show in 2019.

However, last year, the show lost a sizeable portion of its audience.

It comes as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which airs on a number of NBC-owned affiliate stations, is ending later this spring with its 19th season.

DeGeneres served as host and executive producer of Ellen’s Game of Games, which includes supersized versions of the most popular games from the talk show.

Ellen's Game of Games Exclusive Sneak Peek: Don't Hold Me Back!
Ellen DeGeneres in Ellen's Game of Games (2017)
Do you sometimes feel like someone is dragging you down?

Does it feel as if someone is keeping you from achieving your goals?

Maybe you feel like if you could just pull a little harder, you'd go in for the win.

Well, we have the clip for you!

On Ellen's Game of Games, this wackadoodle game ties two contestants to each other and then sets them onto a challenge.

It seems that they can't use their hands, and since they're tied together at the waist, both contestants need to dive headfirst toward their target.

And that target is just far enough apart that there is no way either one of them could reach their respective targets at the same time.

So, what happens? Well, that would spoil the clip, wouldn't it?

On the May 5th episode, "My Heart Will Know or Go On," contestants will play “Aww Snap,” “Dizzy Dash,...

Let the games continue. NBC has handed a Season 4 renewal to Ellen’s Game of Games, the hourlong series hosted by Ellen DeGeneres that ranked as primetime’s No. 1 game show last season.

The announcement — which comes six weeks into the series’ third season — was made during her talk show today, and the host had audience members play the messy “Danger Word” game to celebrate.

“I’m so excited. I love this show so much,” DeGeneres said. “It makes me so happy. I love games. It combines all my favorite things: prizes and surprises. I’m sure you’ve seen it, but if you haven’t, you’ve been missing out.”

Airing at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, the family-friendly Game of Games reached more than 66 million viewers last season and is averaging a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.2 million viewers in Live+7 this season. It is tied for fourth among all primetime...
