Samuel L. Jackson Teams With Sylvester Stallone To Play Ruthless Crime Boss In New TV Series
Image
Samuel L. Jackson is stepping into new territory with crime and redemption as he takes the helm in Nola King, his first lead role in a television series debuting through Paramount+.

The 76-year-old screen icon will portray Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character set to make his debut in the third season of Tulsa King, which is scheduled to arrive in September.

The spinoff expands on the world built by Sylvester Stallone‘s Dwight Manfredi, introducing Jackson’s character as a federal prison acquaintance sent by the Renzetti crime family on a dark mission: eliminate Manfredi.

But what starts as a hit job turns into something more layered.

“Nola King follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) during a 10-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all,” a synopsis from Paramount+ reads.

Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family and friends, and to take control of the city he left behind.

Star Wars icon to finally 'return from the dead', reports say
Image
The Star Wars story incorporates a lot of things. Lightsabers, spaceships, and even Baby Yodas all highlight just how vast and intricate that legendary galaxy so far, far away truly is. One other element that has been prevalent throughout the franchise's near-50-year run is death.

Death is inevitable in the Star Wars franchise, as some of the saga's most beloved characters have met their end at the hands of some of the galaxy's most treacherous villains. The question is: Could any of them ever return from the dead?

In a film series like Star Wars, absolutely. We've already seen multiple characters return in recent years thanks to the various Disney Plus shows. Boba Fett is a perfect example of this, as it was heavily implied that this character had once died. But there he was by The Mandalorian's side just a few short years ago.

And now, one Star...

Jurassic Park: Here’s why no other film in the franchise can compare to the original
Image
This week sees the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, and it seems like it’s being met with a bit of a shrug from fans, even if it’s still going to make a solid amount of cash—these movies always do. Jurassic Park has become a franchise for Universal, and a profitable one at that. Yet, none of the films have had the magic the first one did. But what magic was that? I’m glad you asked.

You see, younger audiences may not appreciate it now, but Jurassic Park gave us Dinosaurs. The new Jurassic World movies are full of CGI dinosaurs, but we had never seen them convincingly portrayed on the big screen before. At best, we’d seen—admittedly impressive—stop-motion versions such as those made by Willis O’Brien and Ray Harryhausen, but Spielberg’s Jurassic Park truly brought them to life in a way no one could have ever imagined.

Image
Bryce Dallas Howard has spoken to Dave Filoni about Samuel L. Jackson returning to the Star Wars franchise. While Bryce Dallas Howard is an accomplished actress, having appeared in films like Jurassic World, The Village, and Spider-Man 3, she has also made a name for herself as a director. She has excelled in the Star Warsuniverse, directing episodes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew. Howard's episodes are often regarded as some of the best in their series, and fans have been hoping Lucasfilm will take the leap and upgrade her to a feature film.

In an interview with The Direct, Bryce Dallas Howard spoke about wanting to reteam with her Argylle co-star Samuel L. Jackson. The Mandalorian Director Addresses Samuel L. Jackson’s Potential Star Wars Return
Image
The return of Mace Winduis something that Star Wars fans and Mace Windu actor Samuel L. Jackson himself have long expressed interest in, and director of The MandalorianBryce Dallas Howard has provided some new insight into this possibility. Although it seemed Mace died in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith when Palpatine sent him flying out the window, Star Wars movies and TV shows have seen more bizarre returns than this, including Palpatine's resurrection. With Jackson backing the idea that Mace could have lived, rumors have been flying that this could be coming eventually.

Per The Direct, Bryce Dallas Howard, one of the directors of The Mandalorian, has indicated that she has spoken with Dave Filoni regarding the possibility of Mace Windu's Star Wars return. Sadly, though, Howard explained:

"I want to work with Sam Jackson, just no matter what, in any circumstance. And I also love working in Star Wars.

The Mandalorian Director Clarifies Those Mace Windu Resurrection Comments
Image
After previous teases, this Mandalorian director is walking back her comments about Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu resurrection. From 1999 to 2005, Jackson played the fierce Jedi master, appearing in George Lucas' Prequel Trilogy before getting offed by Ian McDiarmid's Emperor Palpatine directly preceding his iconic Order 66 massacre of the Jedi Council. Since then, Jackson's purple saber-wielding Jedi has not been heard from outside of some appearances in the animated Clone Wars series (which was not voiced by the Nick Fury actor).

Despite that, fans have been loud and clear about wanting Mace Windu to be restricted in some form in the Disney Star Wars era. In an exclusive conversation with The Direct, while promoting her new movie Deep Cover, The Mandalorian director Bryce Dallas Howard addressed her previous comments about potentially getting Samuel L. Jackson back into the Star Wars fray with his Mace Windu character.

‘Ted’ Goes Animated as Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfriend Return for New Series
Image
Ted (Seth MacFarlane) just doesn't know when to quit! Peacock has announced that an animated series based on the unpredictable bear created by Seth MacFarlane is officially in development. The announcement comes almost a year after the live-action Tedtelevision series was renewed for a second season by the streaming platform. In order to share the news with the public, Peacock posted a video featuring several stars recording their lines for the animated story. Judging by the actors who appear in the video, it could be safe to assume that the Ted animated show will take place within the timeline of the movies.

The first Ted movie introduced the bear as a creature who was brought to life thanks to John's (Mark Wahlberg) insecurities and fears as a child. While it was adorable to see a child having a best friend to care for him, things changed radically when the pair grew up.

‘Ted’ Animated Series From Seth MacFarlane Set at Peacock With Mark Wahlberg Co-Starring
Image
Peacock has given a series order to “Ted: The Animated Series,” the working title for an animated spinoff of the 2012 and 2015 live-action comedy film franchise created and directed by Seth MacFarlane, who starred with Mark Wahlberg.

The order further expands the franchise following the success of “Ted,” Peacock’s live-action prequel series.

MacFarlane of course will voice Ted, the foul-mouthed, magical talking teddy bear at the center of the story, with Wahlberg providing the voice of Ted’s human companion, John Bennett.

Also returning from the original films are Amanda Seyfried as John’s girlfriend, Sam Jackson, and Jessica Barth as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn.

Joining them are Kyle Mooney as the voice of “Apollo,” most likely Ted and Tami-Lynn’s adopted son from “Ted 2,” and Liz Richman (“Little America”), who plays “Polly” on Peacock’s “Ted” live-action series and will voice “Ruth” for the cartoon.

The show comes from...

‘Star Wars’ Master of Vaapad Deserved a Revenge Story, and That’s the Real Missed Opportunity
Image
Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars marked a massive turning point for the sci-fi behemoth, and not for all the right reasons. Although the media giant took its fair share of time to get the sequel trilogy running, post- The Rise of Skywalker, it has been nothing but crickets for the IP on the big screen.

While a plethora of projects are currently in development, including The Mandalorian & Grogu, one story that could’ve proved to be a major hit for the brand, and simultaneously elevated the prequel saga, has been mostly ignored.

Among all the new characters that were introduced in the prequel trilogy, Mace Windu was arguably the most iconic, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. Considering the master of Vaapad’s fate has been a topic of much discussion,...

The Star Wars Director Who Could Bring Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu Back
Image
Could Samuel L. Jackson return as his seemingly-dead-but-maybe-not-really-dead Jedi Master Mace Windu in a future "Star Wars" project? Well, anything could happen but will it happen? That's the better question. For years, Jackson has been absolutely insistent that Mace Windu survived "Revenge of the Sith," despite the fact that he was seemingly killed by Palpatine. What's more, Jackson has expressed a strong desire to reprise his role. Now it seems Bryce Dallas Howard has at least explored the idea of doing something with this long standing idea.

On a recent episode of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Howard touched on the idea of possibly directing a "Star Wars" movie. Howard has directed episodes of "The Mandalorian," "The Book of Boba Fett," and "Skeleton Crew," with her name often coming up online as someone who should helm an upcoming movie in a galaxy far, far away. "I would always say yes,...

Samuel L. Jackson’s Box Office Trick: Why His Films Never Flop — Even If He Has To Buy The First 1,000 Tickets
Image
Samuel L Jackson Box Office ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Samuel L. Jackson knew how to guarantee box office numbers, even if it meant personally fronting the first thousand bucks. During a hilarious appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Jackson cracked the secret: “I know when I have a movie that’s opening, I know it’s going to make at least $1,000 that weekend because I buy $1,000 worth of tickets. I give them to the church, or I give them to somebody, and their kids go.” That’s not just confidence. That’s commitment.

The moment had the audience in stitches, but he wasn’t joking. Jackson backed his films, literally. And while $1,000 wouldn’t dent today’s box office reports, the gesture summed up Jackson’s larger-than-life energy. Whether it was Pulp Fiction or Snakes on a Plane, he showed up for his work.

Before becoming the legend everyone quoted, Jackson...

At this point in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it often feels as if every actor known to man has worked on the franchise. Though that may not actually be true, the sheer amount of well-known faces who have shown up in, or at least offered their voice to, either an MCU movie or TV show (if not both) is pretty mammoth, extending across ages and generations. And while there are still a few notable standouts among the biggest film stars in the world, many big names pop up in even small parts.

As an example, consider one of the biggest action stars of the 1980s: Sylvester Stallone. The multi-hyphenate made himself into an icon through a few different franchises, most notably the "Rambo" and "Rocky" properties, the latter of which began with a film he wrote and starred in (and which eventually took home a Best Picture...

Quentin Tarantino Nearly Took Steve Buscemi’s Iconic Reservoir Dogs Role Until One Audition Changed Everything!
Image
Did Steve Buscemi almost take the Iconic Reservoir Dogs Role? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

Quentin Tarantino nearly stepped into a very different pair of shoes in Reservoir Dogs and had it not been for one absolutely killer audition, the entire film might have looked a little different.

Now, Tarantino isn’t just any director, he’s Hollywood’s mad genius, the mind behind Pulp Fiction, the Kill Bill saga, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and a whole blood-soaked parade of cult classics.

If you consider yourself a true Tarantino fan, you would probably know by now that there’s one thing he loves almost as much as crafting razor-sharp dialogue and unforgettable violence – that’s sneaking himself into the frame. He’s done it in Inglourious Basterds, Death Proof, and, of course, Reservoir Dogs, where he played the ill-fated Mr. Brown.

Sphere (1998) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
You guys really seem to be digging on Michael Crichton huh? Well let’s look at what almost stopped his adaptations from happening. After a heck of a run from his adaptations both good and mediocre, Sphere would be a big enough bomb that it would follow with two straight sub-par adaptations before a quiet death of his worked being put on the big screen. The movie should have been a no doubt success with stars like Dustin Hoffman, Sam Jackson, Sharon Stone and a more than capable, Oscar winning, director in Barry Levinson. What we would end up with is one of the biggest bombs of the late 90s and a movie that is derided or outright forgotten from the annals of 90s cinema. Was it the cast, the story, or the general public being over Chricton things that didn’t have dinosaurs in it that was the culprit.

Tom Holland Engaged In John Grisham’s ‘The Partner’ At Universal; Graham Moore Adapting
Image
Exclusive: Tom Holland has made a deal to star in and produce The Partner, a drama based on the John Grisham 1997 bestseller that The Imitation Game’s Graham Moore is scripting for Universal.

The novel was written by Grisham at a time he was getting as much as $8 million for movie rights to compulsively readable thrillers that made strong vehicles for stars and directors. That included putting Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock and Sam Jackson on fast tracks in A Time To Kill, along with Tom Cruise (The Firm), Matt Damon and Claire Danes (The Rainmaker), Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon (The Client), Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts (The Pelican Brief), and John Cusack, Gene Hackman and Rachel Weisz in The Runaway Jury.

Holland will see if there’s still some gold in Grisham’s lawyers-in-distress sagas. After completing a year-long hiatus from acting following his grueling turn as a...

Image
Sylvester Stallone has been a part of numerous major projects throughout his nearly five-and-a-half decades-long (and counting) star-studded career, building his own iconic public image through his genius writing and even better acting and fighting chops. If anything, it’s commendable how he is now a part of some of the biggest franchises of all time.

While his own Rambo and Rocky franchises continue to leave an indelible mark on fans’ hearts as significant contributors to his current net worth of a whopping $400 million (per Marca), another major saga he has been a part of is the Guardians of the Galaxy (Gotg) franchise from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Pulp Fiction: How All Those Bullets Missed Jules & Vincent Explained By Expert (& It Wasn’t Divine Intervention)
Image
A firearms expert explains why Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta's Pulp Fiction characters do not get shot at the beginning of the movie. Jackson's Jules Winnfield and Travolta's Vincent Vega are among Quentin Tarantino's best characters, an iconic duo in one of the director's most critically acclaimed movies. Jules and Vincent are widely remembered for their banter, including Vincent's line about "a Royale with cheese," but they are also remembered for surviving outrageous scenarios.

In an Insider video, firearms expert Patrick McNamara reveals how Jules and Vincent survive being shot at close range. The scene occurs toward the beginning of Pulp Fiction when an individual, credited as the Fourth Man, emerges from the bathroom and shoots at Jules and Vincent from a close distance, only for all the bullets to miss them. Jules declares that this is a miracle, but McNamara explains that it is...

‘Mic Drop, We’re Done’: Limited Series Writers Talk Learning Curves, Endings and the Art of Collaboration
Image
Limited series writers have one big advantage over scribes working on recurring series: They can build to a big, flashy ending without worrying about what to do next season.

“Limited gives us that opportunity to just be like — leave them wanting more. We’re out. Mic drop, we’re done,” said Marco Ramirez, executive producer and showrunner of the upcoming Hulu limited series “La Maquina,” set in the world of boxing in Mexico.

Ramirez was one of five writer-producers who gathered Thursday night at the London Hotel in West Hollywood for a lively conversation that was part of Variety’s A Night in the Writers Room: Awards Season Edition event.

The scribes discussed the idiosyncracies of working in the format. Shaye Ogbonna, creator, executive producer and showrunner of Peacock’s “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist,” said the rising demand for limited series during the height of the Peak TV...

Superman Star Frank Grillo Reveals Rick Flag Sr.'s Link To A.R.G.U.S. And What His Dcu Future Looks Like
Image
Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker season 2 are all on the way over the next year and there's one character who will appear in each of them: Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr.

So far, we believe he'll lead Task Force M, help Ultraman apprehend the Man of Steel, and take his revenge on Christopher Smith for his role in Rick Flag Jr.'s death in The Suicide Squad. Creature Commandos' trailers have suggested Grillo's character works hand-in-hand with Amanda Waller, but what exactly is his role in the Dcu?

Asked by Collider whether he's akin to the McU's Agent Coulson, the actor replied, "I'll go a step further. I get a little bit of a Sam Jackson vibe. It's that kind of thing where he can swing through for a little bit, like in Superman, and have a critical, pivotal role, and then a bigger role, certainly, in Peacemaker, a very crucial role,...

According to Frank Grillo, A.R.G.U.S. will undergo some changes in the Dcu, beyond just the updated logo spotted on the set of Peacemaker Season 2.

John David Washington Calls Danielle Brooks and Danielle Deadwyler the Next Viola Davis
Image
In the screen adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, several actors who starred in the 2022 Broadway production of the 1987 play reprise their roles onscreen. That includes John David Washington in the role of Boy Willie Charles, Samuel L. Jackson as Doacker Charles, Michael Potts as Wining Boy Charles, and Ray Fisher as Lymon.

In the role of Boy Willie’s sister Berniece Charles — who Academy Award-nominated Danielle Brooks portrayed in the play — comes Danielle Deadwyler, known for her portrayal of Mamie Till in 2022’s Till.

“These Black women are killing it, right?” John David told The Hollywood Reporter of working alongside the actresses onscreen and onstage at the Los Angeles premiere of the film at the Egyptian Theater on Tuesday. “These Black women can go. We’re looking like, ‘Who’s the next Viola [Davis]?’ We got them. They’re here. We need y’all — people with the mic,...

Creature Commandos Star Says His Character Is the Nick Fury of the Dcu
Image
Creature Commandos will feature characters with backstories established in the canon. These include Rick Flag Sr., whose Dcu story arc is confirmed to go beyond his grudge match with Peacemaker.

Frank Grillo asserted that Rick Flag Sr. will have a long-term storyline in the Dcu. Confirmed to appear in Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2, Grillo said his character's motivation will be different in each iteration. Teasing his complex role in the rebooted canon, the actor asserted Rick Flag Sr.'s arc is similar to Nick Fury's in the MCU. "Based on how things end in Peacemaker, in Superman, and in Creature Commandos, Rick Flag will be around for a while. I kind of liken him to the Sam Jackson character in the Marvel world," he told Inverse.

Malcolm Washington Built His Family Legacy Into Directorial Debut ‘The Piano Lesson’: “A Big Part Of This Was Based On My Grandfather”
Image
For director Malcolm Washington, generational Black resilience and complex familial bonds are the underlying themes in front of and behind the camera for Netflix’s The Piano Lesson. Making his feature film debut, Washington enlisted the talents of his family as his brother, John David Washington, plays the lead role alongside appearances from his mother, Pauletta, and twin sister, Olivia. Older sister, Katia and father Denzel Washington are producers. Based on August Wilson’s 1987 play, the story centers around a bitter feud between two siblings (played by John David and Danielle Deadwyler) who disagree about what to do with the family’s antebellum-era heirloom piano.

Deadline: How did this adaptation find its way to you? Did Virgil Williams approach you first?

Malcolm Washington: He was involved in it many years before this started, but I don’t think he worked on it yet. So, I approached him with a take that I thought was interesting.

The Beast: Renny Harlin directing action flick starring Samuel L. Jackson and Joel Kinnaman
Image
Deadline reports that Renny Harlin will direct The Beast, starring Samuel L. Jackson. In fact, Harlin is already halfway through the eight-week shoot in Madrid and Spain’s Canary Islands, and he wasn’t even the original director. James Madigan, second unit director on The Meg, was previously set to helm the action flick. No reason was given for his exit.

The Beast refers to the Presidential limousine, which is an impenetrable tank stocked with grenades, shotguns, armour plating, and bullet-and-bombproofing. In addition to Jackson, The Beast also stars Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) and Guy Burnett (Oppenheimer). “When a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S. presidency, the President (Jackson) uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities,” reads the synopsis of The Beast. “Separated from his wife, the President must learn to control The Beast — and the monster inside himself — in order to save his life,...
