This fall can’t come any faster for fans of the hit NCIS spin-off, NCIS: Origins, as it makes its highly anticipated return in October. Chronicling the early career years of young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, before the events of the original series, the procedural was renewed for a second season in February before its nineteen-episode debut season came to an end on April 28. Now with Season 2 fast approaching, many are curious about what’s next for Gibbs, who, as seen in the Season 1 finale, killed Pedro Hernandez, the man responsible for his family's death.
Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell in NCIS: Origins, experienced a couple of firsts in Season 1 with even more to come this fall. Speaking with TVLine, co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal has teased a significant scene involving another first for the character: a proper interrogation coming up next season, even though viewers may have seen him already conduct some questioning in previous episodes.

NCIS: Origins season 2 will introduce one of Gibbs' trademarks from the main show. The first prequel in the NCIS franchise focuses on the formative years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in the early 1990s, as he works with an unlikely team under the guidance of Mike Franks. Franchise veteran Mark Harmon narrates, with Austin Stowell taking over the lead role.
The formula has proven successful for CBS, with NCIS: Origins season 2 set to debut at 9 Pm on Tuesday, October 14. Steadily, however, Gibbs will begin to shift away from the relative newcomer to the seasoned pro that viewers would come to recognize from Harmon's decades on NCIS. That process, in many ways, is already taking shape.

The original NCIS TV series has been on the air for more than two decades, but some of its spin-offs have had far shorter runs. NCIS: Hawaii was cancelled after three seasons. How long will this newest entry last? Will NCIS: Origins be renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A police procedural and action series, the NCIS: Origins TV show stars Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, Kyle Schmid, Tyla Abercrumbie, and Diany Rodriguez, with Mark Harmon as narrator. Recurring players include Daniel Bellomy, Caleb Martin Foote, Robert Taylor, Patrick Fischler, Julian Black Antelope, Tonantzin Carmelo, Lori Petty, and Bobby Moynihan. NCIS: Originsstar Caleb Foote shares the advice that franchise veteran Mak Harmon gave him. Harmon returns to narrate and executive produce the prequel, which debuted in October, and focuses on a younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) in the early 1990s. Gibbs works alongside an unlikely team, which includes Foote as Special Agent Bernard "Randy" Randolf.
Even though the prequel is focused on Gibbs, zeroing in on the pivotal NCIS character and highlighting a different side to him, NCIS: Origins season 2 is poised to continue highlighting the people who helped him along the way. Randolf, the so-called golden boy, is far from it. Though he's capable, he's also still evolving and growing.
In recent comments to Entertainment Tonight, Foote revealed that Harmon encouraged him to be himself. In the quote below, Foote also praises Harmon and his veteran status as a performer and as part...

'NCIS: Origins' Executive Producer Hints at Gibbs’ Growth From Probie to Assertive Agent in Season 2
NCIS: Origins is a prequel series which looks to set up the foundation that many of the other NCIS shows are built upon. Mark Harmon played one of NCIS' most beloved characters in Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and for a significantly long time. The character has been brought back in a younger version, with Austin Stowell taking on the role as the burgeoning career of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991 begins to take shape. As we know, Gibbs will some day lead the D.C. office, and do that very successfully as well. However, in NCIS: Origins, he has remained quiet and studious for the most part, learning the ropes as a "probie."
So when does Gibbs move from probie to assertive, confident agent? Season 1 saw a young Gibbs working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), alongside “Randy” Randolf (Caleb Foote) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez...

NCIS: Origins might be a prequel, but it’s still stuck in the same old loop, worshipping Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs like he’s the one and only law of the land. A recent comment from Austin Stowell, admitting that he “was scared for so many reasons,” proved that the franchise still refuses to move on from its golden boy.
Instead of carving out its own identity, Origins looks set to keep polishing Harmon’s legacy while newer characters play second fiddle. For longtime fans hoping the series would evolve, this latest soundbite might just confirm their worst fear: NCIS still lives and dies in Gibbs’ shadow.

The latest update on NCIS: Origins season 2 confirms a key change for Gibbs. The prequel to the long-running NCIS franchise debuted in October 2024, focusing on a younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) as he assembles a ragtag team in the 1990s. NCIS: Origins season 2was renewed in February.
With an NCIS: Origins cast that includes Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote, with the narration of Mark Harmon, the prequel intentionally doesn’t perfectly align with Harmon’s version of Gibbs that viewers know from his decades on the original NCIS series. According to co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal, it’s an intentional choice.
In an interview with TVLine, North opened up about how Gibbs will evolve in NCIS: Origins season 2. In the quote below, the co-showrunner and executive producer specifically talks about how Gibbs will learn to trust...

When it came to taking on the role of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, actor Austin Stowell had his work cut out for him as the star of the hit prequel series NCIS: Origins. For over two decades, Mark Harmon played the older version of the character, and Stowell still feels like he'll never get fully comfortable in the role.
Stowell and co-star Mariel Molino fielded some questions about NCIS: Origins while at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, per Deadline. Concerning playing Gibbs, Stowell shared that the role is no less nerve-wracking now than it was at the start, even with the success of the first season. While he likes the challenge as an actor, feeling he can actually "thrive" in these instances, Stowell still feels like the role belongs to Harmon.
“I was scared for so many reasons,” Stowell explained about joining the show. “There were just so many first times.

"NCIS: Origins" is a change of pace for CBS' long-running procedural franchise. As demonstrated by shows like the canceled "NCIS: New Orleans" and the short-lived "NCIS: Hawaii," the saga previously set its spin-offs in the present day but changed up the locations, leaving the door open to some exciting crossovers. "Origins," on the other hand, travels back to the 1990s and focuses on the Naval Investigative Service (which was later restructured as the Naval Criminal Investigative Service) during a time when some familiar characters were still rising through the ranks -- and dealing with some serious personal drama outside of work.
The prequel aspect of the show allows "NCIS: Origins" to answer some long-lingering questions fans of the property have been asking for years, such as what actually happened to Leroy Jethro Gibbs' wife and daughter prior to "NCIS" and why he came up with some of his famous rules.

In the entertainment industry, several projects are tossed before they can make it to the development stage. Out of those that do end up being made, only a fraction of them end up surviving and getting more than a few seasons. However, the majority of these are canceled before they can take flight, ending the saga with just a single season, and leaving fans on a cliffhanger for the rest of their lives. This is what happened with Peacock’s latest TV series, Teacup.

It's going to be one and done for the horror series Teacup on Peacock. While the reviews were respectable, with horror legend Stephen King even offering his endorsement, the show is not going to get a chance to continue.

Its fate has since been unclear, but unfortunately for fans, it's ultimately turned out to be bad news. Among those feeling the disappointment is likely Stephen King, who publicly encouraged others to check out the series after he was impressed by what he saw.

Per Variety, Teacup has been officially canceled by Peacock after just one season. The news follows the series dropping on the streaming platform in October 2024, culminating with the debut of its finale on Halloween. Its fate has since been unclear, but unfortunately for fans, it's ultimately turned out to be bad news. Among those feeling the disappointment is likely Stephen King, who publicly encouraged others to check out the series after he was impressed by what he saw.

Yet another well-received 2024 show has found itself on the chopping block, and this time it's one that was well-received by Stephen King. The past few years have seen the acclaimed horror author turn his creative endeavors to also sharing his reviews on a variety of films and TV shows, with everything from Apple TV+'s Constellation to The Midwitch Cuckoos getting his approval. The horror genre, in particular, has seen plenty of reviews from King, including Blumhouse's Night Swim and Strange Darling.
Though his voice has helped certain shows find success, many 2024 TV releases have still found themselves cancelled after just one season. Many of them also, unfortunately, left audiences on cliffhanger endings, including the Child's Play sequel show Chucky, the Apple TV+ sci-fi show Sunny and the Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte, while others that left off on mostly closed notes still came to a close, including American Born Chinese.

There are so many pivotal elements that go into nailing a successful show, and one of those is having likable characters. Luckily, NCIS: Origins has plenty to work with in Mike Franks.
Don’t get me wrong, because I am the unofficial leader of the “Mary Jo Fan Club,” but Mike Franks is something else.
Since the start of NCIS: Origins, many viewers have found themselves drawn to Kyle Schmid’s iteration of the Nis leader, and we can’t exactly blame them.

The character has been a staple of the franchise’s flagship series, NCIS, since its inception. So, his presence in a prequel series was heavily expected and very much appreciated.
However, there’s no way anyone could have known the amount of talent Schmid would bring to the character, let alone the unexpected, well, sex appeal.

Due to the rich history of the flagship series, conclusions exist about the fate of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Mike Franks’ original Nis team in NCIS. The franchise’s most recent spinoff explores the backstory of Agent in Charge Gibbs, bringing conversations about his former colleagues back into orbit with NCIS: Origins. The show revives critical figures from Gibbs' background, such as Mike Franks and Vera Strickland. The NCIS: Origins cast also brings connections from Gibbs' narrative out of the shadows, introducing new characters whose involvement bolsters the story of what happened to Gibbs’ wife and daughter in NCIS.
NCIS: Origins has been a significant project for the franchise, making an established character’s story even more robust. The prequel explains how Gibbs navigated his family’s death in more detail, shifting the narrative and perceptions of Gibbs’ story. Still, some facts established in the flagship NCIS series can never change,...

NCIS: Origins sometimes feels and looks more like an NCIS spin-off series than a prequel. While NCIS: Origins has effectively presented young Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early development as a rookie special agent at the Nis Camp Pendleton branch, NCIS: Origins has offered few surprises to longtime NCIS viewers.
However, the ninth episode of NCIS: Origins, “Vivo o Muerto,” unleashed a major surprise with the revelation that Pedro Hernandez, the Mexican drug dealer who murdered Gibbs’ daughter and wife, was killed by Gibbs before Gibbs joined the Camp Pendleton branch, as viewers, along with the show’s supporting characters, had been led to believe that Gibbs’ pursuit of Hernandez would serve as the show’s primary conflict throughout the show's first season.
The surprises continued with the mid-season finale, “Blue Bayou,” which opens in the aftermath of the events of “Vivo o Muerto” before jumping back in time six months to...

The midseason finale of NCIS: Origins explored an untold story in Jethro Gibb's early years in the service. Focusing on Gibb's redemption, "Blue Bayou" became the first non-procedural episode in NCIS history.
The midseason finale of NCIS: Origins finally addressed one mystery in Jethro Gibbs' backstory. Speaking to The Wrap, series co-creator David North said they set out to explain what Gibbs was doing months after he killed Pedro Hernandez; the mainline series ignored this time gap entirely. "As someone that wrote for NCIS for years, and was there on the ground floor when the original creator, Don Bellisario, came up with a lot of this stuff with Gibbs and [his family] Shannon and Kelly, I always felt there was a huge part of this that was missing, which was what happened after Gibbs killed Pedro," he said. "Well, what happened in those months?...
