Nicole Richie on the 20th Anniversary of ‘The Simple Life,’ Starring in ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead’ Remake and Writing a Horror-Comedy
Image
Nicole Richie has been a “diehard fan” of the 1991 cult comedy “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” for as long as she can remember.

“I’ve been quoting this movie my whole life,” she says.

And now, life has come full circle because the former “Simple Life” reality television icon stars in director Wade Allain-Marcus’ “Don’t Tell Mom” remake as fashion company boss Rose.

The new film stars Simone Joy Jones as Tanya, a 17-year-old whose summer plans are upended when her mom (“Ms. Pat” star Patricia Williams) checks herself into a health retreat. Things completely unravel when the babysitter, played by Oscar nominee June Squibb, hired to take care of Tanya and her siblings suddenly dies.

“When I heard it was going to be a remake, I was like, ‘What does this mean?’” she says. “So I jumped on a Zoom with Wade and he was like, ‘This...

Ms. Pat Show Star on Wearing Her Natural Hair in Season 2: 'I Felt So Ugly'
Image
For Black women, our hair isn’t just hair; it is an integral part of our culture and identity. Depending on who you talk to, it can be a symbol of pride (as seen with the Black Is Beautiful movement), a source of pain and self-hatred, or a combination of both.

The Ms. Pat Show unpacks these complicated feelings around Black hair in the episode “Don’t Touch My Hair,” which is currently streaming with the rest of Season 2 on BET+. In Episode 3, Terry makes a careless remark about Ms. Pat’s kinky hair, and that dredges up some painful childhood memories.

Call the Midwife Recap: To Be Human
Image
From the moment Nurse Jennifer Worth narrated the words “everyone needs a place that keeps us secure and safe from harm” at the top of Sunday night’s Call the Midwife, the tone was set. All fans of the PBS drama had to do was wait and see who needed refuge and why.

The answers soon arrived with the introduction of two new patients: Patricia Williams, an expectant mother with weight issues, and Louise Wrigley, who claimed to be pregnant even though she wasn’t. Nurse Lucille and Shelagh Turner tended to Patricia, while Dr. Turner and later Sister Hilda focused on Louise.

Ms. Pat Nabs First Hourlong Comedy Special at Netflix (Exclusive)
Image
Comedian, author and actor Patricia Williams aka Ms. Pat has booked her first hourlong stand-up comedy special at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.

The special, which is still to be titled, will be shot at the Atlanta Comedy Theater on Sept. 25. While this is Ms. Pat’s first hourlong special, she previously appeared in the second season of the streamer’s “The Degenerates” stand-up series, delivering a half-hour set.

Ms. Pat’s unique voice comes from always being honest and personal to her own life, rather than reaching for a hot topic or headline of the moment. That’s why she says you shouldn’t expect Covid jokes in her new special. But you also shouldn’t expect to hear about the same people or pockets of her life she included in “The Degenerates”; her 2017 memoir, “Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat”; or her BET Plus sitcom, “The Ms. Pat Show.
