Danila Kozlovsky, Zoey Deutch, Dominic Sherwood, and Lucy Fry in Vampire Academy (2014)
Vampire Academy Cast: Where Have You Seen Them Before?
Danila Kozlovsky, Zoey Deutch, Dominic Sherwood, and Lucy Fry in Vampire Academy (2014)
Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy is one of those beloved book franchises that should have gotten a TV series adaptation at least five years ago. Set in a world in which two distinct races of vampires—the Moroi and the Strigoi—exist, the six-book series centers the best friendship between Moroi princess Lissa and half-vampire bodyguard Rose.

While the series was made into a pretty good movie starring Zoey Deutch back in 2014, it was one of those adaptations that, while fun, didn’t actually do a good job adapting its source material. Now that Peacock has announced a series adaptation from Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec and promising “the elegance of aristocratic romance” combined with “the supernatural thrills of the vampire genre,” the Vampire Academy fanbase might finally get the adaptation they’ve long been asking for. Today, we got our first insight into what the Peacock series will actually look like,...

Wasted: crude, stoner TV comedy with a heart
Louisa Mellor Jul 26, 2016

E4’s new comedy, starting tonight, about a group of West Country 20-somethings boasts a star turn from Sean Bean…

Looking back now, the most outlandish part of brilliantly inventive 1999 sitcom Spaced isn’t a movie parody, cutaway gag or eccentric character, but the idea that you could rent a fully furnished two-bedroom flat in Zone Two for ninety quid a week. If Tim Bisley and Daisy Steiner were house-hunting in London today, they’d be forced to pack up their Gillian Anderson posters and typewriter and head back to their respective hometowns to crash on a mate’s sofa.

That’s the fate of Kent (Dylan Edwards) in the first episode of Wasted, a new UK comedy series starting tonight on E4.

Having failed to make it as a Bristol-based DJ, Kent goes back to the village of Neston Berry and to the bosom of his...

A 25-year-old virgin, he’s massively into fantasy – Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, computers. Rose Reynolds (represented by Conway van Gelder Grant) plays his neurotic sister Sarah. Of the four she seems to be the one that is most likely to leave her hometown. At the beginning we find her planning to go away to India and then Kent arrives back from uni and that puts a...

Difficult beginnings…
Dylan Edwards - writer, director and star of Difficult Second Coming - writes about the new landscape for comedies.

Five years back I cracked my knuckles and clacked out my first ever script. I had no clue what I was doing, but I wrote it because I was fed up auditioning for comedy shows I felt were s***ty and cliched. So, rather than be a moany actor, passively shuffling in and out of castings, slowly losing the will to live, I decided I would put my money where my mouth was and write my own.

Trailer: Difficult Second Coming
He can barely make rent - let alone save humanity

Dylan Edwards (High-Rise, Pramface, E4′s forthcoming Wasted) and Natasha O’Keeffe (Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, The Last Panthers) have announced the release of their brand new digital series Difficult Second Coming.

Difficult Second Coming is a digital series following 20-something Jc and his merry band of misfits as they struggle with life in the big smoke. However Jc also happens to be the second coming, Jesus Christ reborn – and he’s struggling to make any impact whatsoever. Not only does nobody know who he is, but like a lot of his generation, he can barely make rent – let alone save humanity!

Difficult Second Coming stars, alongside Dylan and Natasha, Joel Fry (Plebs, Game of Thrones), Fiona O’Shaughnessy (Utopia), Emer Kenny (EastEnders) and Sally Dexter (Poldark).

Benny & Jolene director completes Modern Romance Trilogy with Downton Abbey’s Tom Cullen, Alice Lowe and Dolly Wells.

British director Jamie Adams is preparing to release the final part of his trilogy of improvised films later this year.

Black Mountain Poets stars Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey), Alice Lowe (Sightseers) and comedy actress Dolly Wells.

The relationship comedy was shot in five days last October in the Black Mountains of Wales and was entirely improvised.

It will mark Adams’ third feature in two years when it is released theatrically and on demand this autumn, self-distributed by Jolene Films.

Cardiff-based Jolene Films released Adams’ first feature Benny & Jolene, starring Craig Roberts (Submarine) and Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat), via Verve Pictures in June 2014.

Adams second film, A Wonderful Christmas Time, was the first UK movie to be released exclusively on demand for a month before emerging theatrically in mid-December. It starred Laura Haddock, Oliver Maltman, [link...

First Clip from Benny & Jolene with Charlotte Ritchie and Craig Roberts
Getting its world premiere at the London Comedy Film Festival earlier this year, Jamie Adams’ directorial debut, Benny & Jolene, is just weeks away from arriving in cinemas this summer.

Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat) and Craig Roberts (Submarine) top a great cast, and with its June release date fast approaching, Verve have released a great first clip from the film, teasing a little of the comedy, and difficulty, of traversing the music industry as two young rising musicians.

Benny and Jolene are a folk duo, supposedly on the up. But 19 year old Jolene is having trouble convincing her writing partner Benny to become more commercial. Too many industry types get involved, leaving Jolene feeling dazed and confused and Benny marginalised. Now they are on a crowded tour busy on their way to a festival in the most beautiful, yet remote, location – forcing them to confront their ambitions and emotions for the first time.

Short Film Cinema: Tom & Issy
Shot entirely on a Nokia Lumia 1020, this short film is rather fab and may even bring a tear to your eye! It stars singer / songwriter Ellie Goulding who plays Issy, wannabe music artist who lacks confidence and is egged on by her flatmate Tom. Her boyfriend is far too engaged in his own business to show any interest and it’s Tom who helps her find the form that he knows she can deliver.

The short film was helmed by Notting Hill / director Roger Michell who we interviewed recently for his movie Le Week-End which you can see here. It shows just how event Hollywood’s best and brightest can make a really effective short film with nothing more than a camera phone so if you’re inspired to make your own movie, get out there and do it!

Pramface Season Two Hits On Hulu – TV Review
Jamie and Laura are back, and now they’ve got the baby in tow. The second season opens with our non-couple in the thick of parenting, and few ideas about how to cope. They can’t even pick a name, and time’s running out, because everyone is involved in planning the Christening.

Pramface delivered a lot of laughs in the first season, and the truly ensemble show doesn’t let up for the second. A wonderfully clever series that makes great use of its entire cast, Pramface is a fast-paced vehicle that manages to explore not only the teenagers, but their parents as well, and strips away the varnish to show off how people really are. Well, sort of.

The first season’s drunken one-night stand that turned into teen pregnancy takes off, as I said, in the parenting trenches, but Jamie and Laura also have to deal with their friends,...

Lydia Rose Bewley and Jessica Knappett The team behind The Inbetweeners is launching a new E4 sitcom this time about three twenty-something young women.

The show, called Drifters, features three of the stars of the spin-off film - Lydia Rose Bewley (represented by Curtis Brown) and Jessica Knappett, who played clubbers Jane and Lisa, and Lauren O'Rourke, who played Neil's girlfriend.

For the ‘Drifter' girls it's time to start asking some serious questions: What do they do now? Who are they going to be? And is it ok to shag someone with a sweat problem if you haven't had sex in twelve months?

Not fully paid up career women, they take...

Pramface coming soon to BBC3
Pramface is a new 6-part comedy series, about two teenagers trying, and often failing, to come to terms with impending parenthood, coming to BBC Three.

Laura, 18, and Jamie, 16, meet at a sixth form party after completing their respective A-Level and Gcse exams. But little can prepare them for the result of their brief, drunken hook-up.

From the moment Laura discovers she is pregnant, the series follows the couple as they face the big moments and even bigger decisions about life and responsibility across those all important nine months.

Scarlett Alice Johnson (represented by United Agents), who played Vicki Fowler in EastEnders back in 2003, stars as Laura Derbyshire, an 18 year old who has everything going for her. After years of conscientious study she excelled in her exams and in a few weeks she’ll be escaping home for university and independence. This is all coming at the right time for Laura,...
