Alyssa Milano, Virginia Madsen, Gina Torres & Milana Vayntrub Join Anthology Film ‘Give Me An A’ Responding To Overturning Of Roe V. Wade
Image
Exclusive: Alyssa Milano (Brazen), Virginia Madsen (Sideways), Gina Torres (9-1-1: Lone Star) and Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) have signed on for roles in the feature-length anthology Give Me an A, which links together 15 short films, in response to the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The film currently in post-production will have been completed within two months from the date of Roe’s overturning — which eliminated the longstanding constitutional right to abortion — in an effort to ensure this is a response and not a delayed reaction. The creators, cast and crew have made a significant effort to expedite the process in order to start a conversation with audiences about the importance of bodily autonomy and address the dysfunction of a democracy that is not protecting the needs of a majority of the population. Support from vendors like Keslow, Panavision and The Ebell of Los Angeles has allowed...

Drafthouse Films announces the Blu-ray and DVD release of the "mind-blowing" (Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times) thriller Cheap Thrills on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Cheap Thrills review: in debasement
The movie equivalent of a mean girls’ game whose only goal is the humiliation of its protagonist, for your entertainment. Also: a failed parable of the twistedness of the 1 percent. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

So I was at this party one time in high school, and a bunch of mean girls thought they could trick me into embarrassing myself. The game was: I put a blanket over my head, and then I had to hand them stuff that was on my person until I hit on the one secret item that they had it in their heads that they wanted me to give them. I can’t remember what the first thing I gave them was — something innocuous, like my watch or a shoe, neither of which was the secret thing, of course.

Cheap Thrills (2013)
Directed by: E.L. Katz

Written by: David Chirchirillo, Trent Haaga

Featuring: Pat Healy, Ethan Embry, Sara Paxton, David Koechner, Laura Covelli, Elissa Dowling

What would you do for $250,000? What about $20,000, or $10,000? What about fifty bucks? What price can you put on your health, your body, your relationships and your soul?

These are the questions asked by the thought-provoking and glorious indie film Cheap Thrills, which found its debut this week at SXSW. Starring Pat Healy (The Innkeepers, Compliance), Ethan Embry (Empire Records, Can't Hardly Wait), Sara Paxton (The Innkeepers), and David Koechner (everything ever), the movie is a smart, relentless and troubling exercise in exploring the depths of a man's resolve.

The movie begins with an introduction to Craig (Healy), a meek, kind family man with a beautiful wife and a toddler son. Craig is a failed writer working as a mechanic, but in the first ten minutes of the...
