Fledgling Saudi production company Alamiya Filmed Entertainment (Afe) has partnered with Dubai-based Front Row Productions to make female-led road trip comedy feature My Treat (Mahmool Makfool).

Directed by Egypt’s Karim Abu Zeid, filming is set to begin this September in Riyadh and Istanbul, and is billed as the first time a major Saudi feature has shot in Turkey. A theatrical release across the Middle East is being scheduled for 2025.

Saudi-Turkish, Female-Led Action-Comedy ‘My Treat’ Greenlit By Alamiya & Front Row Productions

Saudi media and film production company Alamiya Filmed Entertainment (Afe) and Dubai-based Front Row Productions are joining forces on Saudi-Turkish road-trip comedy movie My Treat (Mahmool Makfool).

The feature, which is being billed as the first ever Saudi-Turkish, female-led action-comedy, will begin filming between the Saudi capital of Riyadh and the Turkish city of Istanbul in September.

The cast features Saudi stars Khairiyah Abu Laban, Nermin Mohsen, and Egyptian star Engy Wegdan.

My Treat follows the the comic misadventures of three passionate Turkish soap opera superfans on their journey from Riyadh to Istanbul.

Driven by their dream to meet their favorite Turkish actor, the trip takes an unexpected turn when they find themselves falsely accused of kidnapping the very star they idolize and entangled in their very own Turkish soap opera.

Dubai-based Front Row Productions and new Saudi production company Alamiya Filmed Entertainment have teamed on “My Treat” (“Mahmool Makfool”), a Saudi-Turkish road-trip comedy about the misadventures of three young Saudi women who are big fans of Turkish soaps.

“My Treat” will take its cue from the fact that Turkish content is extremely popular in the Arab world due to shared history and cultural similarities. The groundbreaking comedy will start shooting in September between Riyadh and Istanbul, “marking the first time a Saudi feature film shoots in Turkey,” according to a statement.

“My Treat” centers on three female superfans of Turkish soaps, named Abu-Laban, Mohsen and Wegdan, who travel from Riyadh to Istanbul in hopes of meeting their favorite Turkish heartthrob. Their trip takes an unexpected twist when “they find themselves falsely accused of kidnapping the very star they idolize” and become “entangled in their very own Turkish soap,” according to the provided synopsis.
