‘We went into battle every morning’: Susanna Reid thanks Piers Morgan for making her a more ‘argumentative’ host
Image
Susanna Reid has thanked ex co-host Piers Morgan for making her a more “argumentative: presenter.

The 52-year-old celebrated her 20th anniversary of hosting morning television on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain (22 March).

Reid called out Piers, thanking him for making her a “more probing” interviewer.

“Just a huge thank you to Piers Morgan of this parish – five years alongside him,” she said. “He made me bolder, more argumentative, more difficult, I think more probing... asking tricky questions.”

She continued: “We went into battle every day,.” Reid said that the show had “been slightly different since” he left.

The presenter also used the opportunity to pay tribute to her late co-host Bill Turnbull, who she first started hosting morning TV with. Turnbull died in 2022, aged 66, from prostate cancer.

After being told that Gmb had been inundated with support for Reid, presenter Charlotte Hawkins read out a message from a viewer.

‘A line has been crossed’: Good Morning Britain’s Adil Ray condemns Jeremy Clarkson’s Meghan Markle rant
Adil Ray
Adil Ray believes “a line has been crossed” by Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial rant about Meghan Markle.

While discussing Clarkson’s comments on Monday’s show (19 December), the Good Morning Britain host said: “Our words have consequences. We sometimes spark debate but we know our words have consequences.”

Clarkson found himself on the receiving end of backlash with his recent column for The Sun, published on Friday (16 December).

He wrote of Markle: “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

The former Top Gear host said that he hates Markle, but not in the same way he hates Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West, for example: “I hate her on a cellular level,...

‘Thought it was just me’: Gmb viewers baffled by ‘ambient music’ technical glitch
Andrew Pierce in Good Morning Britain (2014)
Good Morning Britain viewers are confused after ambient music played over the NHS strike debate this morning.

The music was played during a panel discussion that included Daily Mail editor Andrew Pierce and Dr Vivek Trivedi, who were speaking about the junior doctor’s strike ballot.

Soon after the interruption, Gmb’s official Twitter page ended up posting original clips of the debate where Dr Trivedi, who is the BMA junior doctors committee co-chair, said: “Poor pay and working conditions are causing doctors to leave the profession or move abroad.”

Gmb hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins have also issued an apology for the glitch.

Many nurses throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland are striking as they demand a pay rise of 5 per cent above the Rpi inflation rate.

The first strike was conducted on 15 December and the second one is set to be held on Tuesday (20 December).

Michael Jackson’s son Prince says ‘it’s worth celebrating’ the fact his father ‘is the greatest’
Image
Michael Jackson’s son Prince has maintained that his father is the “greatest” music star of all time.

On Friday (28 October), Prince appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his father’s legacy 40 years on from the release of Thriller.

He told hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins: “I was born into it – I was born in ’97 in the middle of the History tour – so anytime we were travelling aorund, there was always people surrounding him and, for me, that just kind of felt normal.

“When I started to realise that this was something more was when I started weatching videos of men fainting over my day. Even now, I’m understanding the full weight of his legacy – as I grow up, as I learn more about his history. His impact is so much deeper than I can fully comprehend.”

Prince said that he finds it “gratifying” and has...

Mo Gilligan addresses ‘beautiful speculation’ he’ll replace James Corden on The Late Late Show
Image
Mo Gilligan has addressed whether he’ll replace James Corden on The Late Late Show.

The comedian appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday (28 October), where hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins grilled him on whether he’ll be stepping into Corden’s shoes.

In April, Corden announced he was quitting the series after eight years. Since then, Gilligan has been rumoured to be taking over.

When Ray asked Gilligan if he would soon be moving to New York, where he believed the late night show was filmed, the comedian responded: “It’s filmed in LA.”

Asked if this was him confirming he would be Corden’s replacement, Gilligan replied: “No, it’s not confirmation. It’s beautiful speculation. To be linked with that job is really cool.”

Corden made a pre-precorded appearance on Gmb earlier in the episode, where he teased his return to the UK once his final...

Hawkins added that she wasn't ready for the lack of sleep, explaining: "I thought because of the job that we do and I'm used to getting up in the middle of the night, not getting that much sleep, so I thought I'd be quite used to that.

Ben Shephard "really proud" of Good Morning Britain
Ben Shephard has said that he is "really proud" of Good Morning Britain.

The presenter co-hosts the ITV breakfast programme, which was this week rumoured to be facing the axe after drawing fewer than 300,000 viewers, though the broadcaster has denied such claims.

"We're loving it. It's a fantastic team," Shephard told Digital Spy ahead of Soccer Aid.

"We're really proud of what we're doing. It's been amazing. I think we've got a great camaraderie amongst us and everyone's really enjoying it. That's the most important thing."

Shephard co-hosts the programme with Susanna Reid, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh, Kate Garraway and Sean Fletcher.

Asked about juggling the breakfast show with his Soccer Aid training, Shephard added: "I've been finishing with Susanna and then coming over here and running around.

Good Morning Britain not facing axe, insists ITV
ITV has denied reports that Good Morning Britain may be on the verge of being axed.

The broadcaster stated that it intends to support the new morning show "for the long run".

Good Morning Britain one month on: Is the breakfast show doomed?

The Sun had previously claimed that the Susanna Reid-fronted series was in danger, due to falling ratings that are below its predecessor Daybreak.

An ITV spokesperson has since stated that there is "no plan" to end the show.

"We are in this for the long game," she said. "We are proud of the show, we are trying something new, and different."

The tabloid report quoted an ITV source claiming that it needed to average a 15% audience share, and may be replaced by cartoons if it fails to do so in six months.

Ben Shephard, Charlotte Hawkins and Sean Fletcher also co-host the show, which launched a month ago.

Good Morning Britain one month on: Is the breakfast show doomed?
Judging a breakfast show on its ratings alone is always dangerous.

Watching breakfast TV is a habit and it has to fit into our busy morning schedules, so a slight change to the format can mean that our 10-minute breakfast break with our corn flakes and the telly suddenly coincides with the weather and we'll probably switch channels or even switch off altogether.

Viewers look for familiarity, comfort and something easily digestible in the mornings. BBC Breakfast has nailed all three of these traits over the last five years and for that reason, ITV has been floundering to match them in the early morning ratings war.

GMTV had grown tired and grey, and Daybreak was an ugly explosion of colour and dreadful decisions. The channel's latest attempt to wrestle back viewers, Good Morning Britain, opened with lukewarm reviews one month ago and the ratings have been dropping ever since.

But are the problems terminal?...

Adrian Chiles has wished the presenters of Good Morning Britain success.

The 47-year-old, who previously presented Daybreak alongside Christine Bleakley, said that the new breakfast show could do well if given a chance, reports The Mirror.

He commented: "They just have to stick to their guns. It is a perfectly good show now - it was a perfectly good show when we left. It wasn't getting the audience so they changed it.

"They are good broadcasters and they will find a way. It seems to be national sport to give it a bloody kicking, and having been on the end of that, it is no fun.

"I am not enjoying watching them suffer now. They have just got to stick to it and they will be fine. It will come round. It just needs to be given time, and it is difficult in the current climate."

Good Morning Britain launches with 800,000, beaten by BBC Breakfast
Good Morning Britain launched with just under 800,000 viewers on Monday (April 28), according to overnight ratings.

ITV's new morning show attracted 768k (19.6% audience share) at 6am on average, with an added 32k (0.6%) tuning in on +1.

Good Morning Britain review: Steady start for ITV's Us-style breakfast TV

This is up from Daybreak's final edition ratings of 553k (14.4%) on Friday.

However, it was still beaten by rival BBC Breakfast, which was seen by 1.4m (34.4%) on average.

It was also less than Daybreak's launch ratings of 1.02m back in 2010.

Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins co-hosted the brand new format on Monday morning.

It has been met with a mixed reaction from critics and viewers alike, with most people noting its similarity to Good Morning America in the Us.

Good Morning Britain review: Steady start for ITV's Us-style breakfast TV
Well, it's definitely better than Daybreak.

It might not be the highest praise ever heaped on a breakfast TV show, but ITV's big cheeses will probably be breathing a sigh of relief this afternoon that they haven't found themselves another laughable turkey.

Good Morning Britain: Reactions and reviews round-up

Good Morning Britain launch: As it happens - Live Blog

Despite numerous revamps and hosts, Daybreak was doomed from its opening show, which failed to match the hype and was an uncomfortable hybrid of its predecessor GMTV, ITV's fierce rival BBC Breakfast and most oddly of all, The One Show.

Good Morning Britain's launch has, deliberately, been much more low key. The tabloids have been fed some quotes from Susanna Reid and her poaching from the BBC gave the Daily Mail plenty more reasons to ogle at her "pins", but the show hasn't suffered from the same pre-debut hullabaloo...

Good Morning Britain: Reactions and reviews round-up
ITV launched its latest attempt in the breakfast TV war earlier today (April 28), with Good Morning Britain landing on our screens.

Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins co-hosted the brand new format, following Daybreak's end on Friday. But how well did they fare?

Most of the early reviews appear to be largely positive, with most people commenting on its similarity with Us morning show Good Morning America. Digital Spy has compiled a round-up of reviews and reactions from around the web below:

Critic Reviews

Alex Fletcher - Digital Spy

"The new 'serious news' format for Good Morning Britain feels like it's having to battle with ITV's natural lean towards fluff. The presentation of 'One Direction talking loves and relationships' as breaking news undermines a lot of the hard work they're putting in elsewhere. Do ITV really believe we can't absorb some serious news in the morning...

Good Morning Britain launch as it happens: Live Blog
Goodbye Daybreak. Good morning, erm, Good Morning Britain.

ITV's latest attempt to revive their breakfast schedules and make a dent in the ratings of their fierce rivals at BBC Breakfast comes in the shape of four familiar faces from morning television.

Sky's Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins, former GMTV host and all round good egg Ben Shephard and the star attraction, who ITV no doubt hope is the jewel in their crown, Susanna Reid.

Poached from the BBC and fresh from a successful run on Strictly Come Dancing, ITV are hoping she's the perfect mix of sharp journalism and warm presenting. Just don't say the words Christine or Bleakley.

Will Good Morning Britain be ITV breakfast's biggest hit since Roland Rat? Or have we got another Daybreak disaster on our hands?

From 6am on Monday (April 28) morning we'll be live-blogging the launch and trying to avoid dropping ketchup from our bacon sandwich on our keyboard.

"Obviously things have been challenging in my personal life but we are getting things sorted," she added.

The 43-year-old, who recently moved from the BBC to host ITV's new breakfast show Good Morning Britain, said that she was still on good terms with Cotton for the sake of their three sons.
