‘The Greatest Inheritance’ Review
Image
Stars: Mena Suvari, Jaleel White, Cameron Kelly, Jeff Schroeder, Leticia Jimenez, Miles Mussenden, Grace Pippas, Meredith Riley Stewart, Mychala Lee | Written by John K.D. Graham, Alexandra Boylan, Andrea Polnaszek | Directed by John K.D. Graham

I’ll admit I had never heard of The Greatest Inheritance or the production company behind it, Mustard Seed Entertainment, however I was drawn to the film on its short, but sweet, synopsis:

The estranged DuBose siblings return home to bury their mother and claim their inheritance, only to discover that their deceased mother has hidden the deed to the entire estate somewhere on the property.

That synopsis, to me, screamed “scavenger hunt” movies like Rat Race and Midnight Madness; mixed with a film such as Death at a Funeral, which meant I was immediately intrigued – expecting a fun, perhaps madcap, comedy that also had a touching side given it’s about a family. Unfortunately...

‘Intruders’ VOD Review
Stars: Beth Riesgraf, Martin Starr, Jack Kesy, Rory Culkin, Leticia Jimenez | Written by T.J. Cimfel, David White | Directed by Adam Schindler

Anna Rook is isolated from human contact in nearly every way, which is exactly how she likes it. Suffering from crippling agoraphobia and holed up in an old Victorian mansion on the outskirts of town, the people in Anna’s life can be counted on two fingers: her terminally-ill brother, Conrad, and the charismatic Meals-on-Wheels driver, Dan. But Anna’s home is about to be invaded by a trio of small-time criminals after a hidden stash of cash. She can’t bring herself to flee, but what the intruders don’t realise is that agoraphobia is the least of her psychoses.

Home invasion thrillers are ten-a-penny these days, as are single location horrors and, at first, it looks like Shut In was set to join those ranks. Which isn...

Fly the Coop with Intruders: A Film Review
Tagline: "They Should Have Left Her Alone." Director: Adam Schindler. Writers: T.J. Cimfel and David White. Cast: Rory Culkin, Leticia Jimenez, Jack Kesy, Timothy T. McKinney, Joshua Mikel and Beth Riesgraf. Intruders is a new entry into the home invasion genre. Though, the film relies heavily on dramatic elements, too. From first time feature film director Adam Schindler, Intruders focuses on Anna's (Beth Riesgraf) dark history and a group of burglars. This material requires a serious tone and this causes the film to wade more into dramatic territory, compared to horror ones. Symbolism also makes an appearance, with Anna portrayed as a caged bird. Intruders is a captivating film, which will draw many viewers into its tense narrative. Anna is dealing with a dying brother. Conrad (Timothy T. McKinney) has been Anna's protector. Without him, she appears lost, almost like a little girl. Her tragic past, which is revealed late in the film,...

‘The Historian’ VOD Review
Stars: Miles Doleac, William Sadler, Colin Cunningham, John Cullum, Leticia Jimenez, Glynnis O’Connor, Michael Emery, Mike Mayhall, Scotty Whitehurst, David Simpson, Tamarah Murley, Jillian Taylor, Kristin Samuelson, Lindsay Anne Williams | Written and Directed by Miles Doleac

A troubled, young history professor tries to escape his past by taking a job at a new university, where he struggles with an entrenched and equally-troubled department chair, rampant student apathy, and new relationships that complicate and challenge his world-view.

The Historian is a film that took me a long time to get into. It knows that it is a drama film, and so piles on extra drama. The main problem I found was that it wanted you to feel sorry for its characters and it did this by showing you scene after scene of reasons why you should feel sorry for them. The result is a bunch of characters that are more...
