The Peacock horror thriller series “Hysteria!” has been canceled after just one season, Variety has learned exclusively.

The show aired its one and only season at the streamer in October 2024. It had originally been ordered to series in August 2022 and began production in 2023, but was forced to shut down after filming just a few episodes due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. It eventually resumed production in late 2023.

Peacock does not release viewership data for its shows, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how many people watched “Hysteria!” However, the show did not make an appearance on the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon its release. It was well-received by critics though, holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Beauty and the Beast and Legion star Dan Stevens first boarded the Monsterverse in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. 

The British actor played Trapper in the 2024 blockbuster, serving as a dentist and veterinarian to the monsters. He quickly became a firm fan-favourite and now, The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) reveals that Stevens is in talks to reprise this role in Grant Sputore's (I Am Mother) unnamed follow-up to The New Empire.

MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. Now, you may recall that this isn’t the first time Hollywood has attempted to get a live-action Gundam movie off the ground. It was announced in 2021 that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was working on a Gundam movie for Netflix and he seemed quite pumped about the project. One of the most revered animé, Gundam is thought of as the Star Wars or Marvel Universe of Japan, and is the pioneer of the mecha genre of IP. The plot is currently under wraps, but the film is looking to start production in early 2025.

Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. If you’re a circumspect first-time TV creator given vaguely free rein, you have two choices (for the purposes of this exercise).

One, you can render your vision in the most easily digestible way possible, to make a series that is clearly promotable and satisfyingly resolved, in the hopes of engineering a hit and getting to make other shows in the future.

Or two, you can throw every idea in your brain in the general vicinity of the screen, aware that success is never guaranteed and you may never have another shot.

Skydance has closed a deal with screenwriter Derek Connolly to adapt Sega’s “Eternal Champions” video game series into a feature film, the company announced on Friday.

Originally released in 1993, “Eternal Champions” is a fighting game made for the Sega Genesis console. The game’s story follows an omniscient being known as the Eternal Champion who, in order to change the fate of a world on the brink of collapse, gathers the dead souls of individuals otherwise destined for greatness from different eras in history and pits them against each other in a fighting tournament. Those who lose remain in death, while the last survivor gets to regain their life, in hopes of bringing balance back to the universe.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance. Toru Nakahara will produce for Sega. Rob Ree, who brought Skydance and Sega together, is executive producing. Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the ninth entry in the King Kong franchise. The film remains Jackson’s only monster movie and he didn’t return to direct a sequel film. But he was interested to see a sequel of the film from one director who has a lifelong fascination with monsters. Jackson thought it would be great if Guillermo del Toro helmed the sequel, after hearing rumors of it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.

MonsterVerse is currently one of the most significant franchises in pop culture. It kickstarted with 2014’s Godzilla and went on to produce 4 films and 2 TV series. However, there is one film in the franchise that was initially conceived as a different venture, Kong: Skull Island.

The 2017 film was initially planned as a sequel to 2005’s King Kong. After the critical and commercial success of Peter Jackson’s King Kong remake, he thought of making a sequel. Co-incidentally, the director of the last two MonsterVerse films, Adam Wingard, was slated to direct it.

Legendary visionary Hideo Kojima has expressed his satisfaction with the live-action debut of Moon Knight on his show exclusively streaming on Disney+. Moon Knight follows the story of a former mercenary named Mark Spector and how he received powers from the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu, and served as his avatar to exact his vengeance on those who mean harm while dealing with his other personality, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Oscar Isaac will no longer play Solid Snake in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s beloved video game fever dream.

It’s been a dog’s age since we heard any updates about Vogt-Roberts’ Metal Gear film project, with the last word coming from the director in 2021. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Roberts said the road to bringing Metal Gear Solid to theaters is long and winding.

A24's announcement of a Death Stranding movie, in partnership with Kojima Productions, further decreases the chances of the Metal Gear Solid adaptation taking place. Compared to Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding is easier to adapt into a film due to its more accessible story.

For years, Oscar Isaac's Metal Gear Solid movie has been stuck in development hell. Following a new film announcement from A24, it looks even less likely that the adaptation of Hideo Kojima's signature series will happen at all. Since 2015, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been attached to helm Metal Gear Solid: The Movie, and, in 2018, Isaac expressed interest in playing protagonist Solid Snake. In 2020, Oscar Isaac was officially cast in the project, but little headway has been made on the film.

Deadline hears that another remake of the film, which originally starred Burt Reynolds in 1974 and was remade starring Adam Sandler in 2005, is in the works at Paramount Pictures. Rodney Barnes, who was an exec producer and writer on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is writing.

It comes from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler was an exec producer on the 2005 version when he worked at then-MTV owner Viacom. Toffler is producing with former MTV Films boss David Gale, who reunited with Toffler at Gunpowder & Sky and who also exec produced the Sandler version.

The Thailand-based American producer has had a very productive 2023 thus far with all the various projects he’s been involved in via his production services company Indochina Productions making their mark. Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench did solid business at the global box office, Gareth Edwards’ The Creator became a hot topic in the industry due to its frugal budget and stunning use of real-life locations and VFX and Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard from Earth has wowed the crowds as the first film specifically made for the new $2.3 billion Sphere in Las Vegas.

After a tough few years for Asian film and TV production due to Covid, Simon sees the industry ramping back up in the region, attracted by proactive government incentives in places like Thailand and Japan, but also continued spending by the likes of Netflix, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

The Creator has been a long time coming for Gareth Edwards. The earliest spark of the movie occurred to him nearly seven years ago after finishing work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The world has thus had a lot of time to change and change again as the film developed. Which makes its arrival in cinemas in September 2023 feel like kismet. After all, this is a film about humans ruthlessly hunting down artificial intelligence, with the desire being to eradicate A.I., root and stem.

“I remember when we wrote the first draft about four years ago,” Edwards says when we catch up with him on the eve of The Creator’s theatrical release. “And there was a big studio note. Everyone who read the screenplay would ask, ‘But why would you ban A.I.? Why would anyone do that? That sounds like an amazing tool, it doesn’t make sense.

“No one is really creating original sci-fi blockbusters anymore, it’s an endangered species.”

Such was the wise insight from Gareth Edwards at the special screening of his latest movie The Creator last week. Peacock’s Twisted Metal series will debut on the streaming service tomorrow, but Anthony Mackie already knows what video game franchise he’d like to tackle next — Metal Gear Solid.

Anthony Mackie spoke with The Wrap about Twisted Metal and was asked what video game he’s love to see turned into a movie or TV show next. “There’s so many video games that I would love to see turned into movies just so you can go on a journey with those characters,” Mackie said. “They already did ‘Max Payne,’ they did so many of them already. It’s just another wave of it now. But I would love to do ‘Metal Gear Solid.’ I feel like there’s so many characters that we learned of and we fell in love with through video games that would make cool IP to turn into television shows and movies.“
