The Peacock horror thriller series “Hysteria!” has been canceled after just one season, Variety has learned exclusively.
The show aired its one and only season at the streamer in October 2024. It had originally been ordered to series in August 2022 and began production in 2023, but was forced to shut down after filming just a few episodes due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. It eventually resumed production in late 2023.
Peacock does not release viewership data for its shows, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how many people watched “Hysteria!” However, the show did not make an appearance on the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon its release. It was well-received by critics though, holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The official series description states:

Beauty and the Beast and Legion star Dan Stevens first boarded the Monsterverse in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
The British actor played Trapper in the 2024 blockbuster, serving as a dentist and veterinarian to the monsters. He quickly became a firm fan-favourite and now, The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) reveals that Stevens is in talks to reprise this role in Grant Sputore's (I Am Mother) unnamed follow-up to The New Empire.
Booksmart and The Last of Us star Kaitlyn Dever was the first human addition to the cast. More are expected to follow.
Gareth Edwards helmed 2014's Godzilla, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts taking charge of Kong: Skull Island. Later, Michael Dougherty expanded the Monsterverse with Godzilla: King of the Monsters before we got a full-blown crossover in Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong. MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. So, we thought of compiling every project that exists in the MonsterVerse and ranking them according to their Rotten Tomatoes score, here it is.
7. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Max & Rent on Prime Video) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 42% Credit – Warner Bros.

Deadline reports that Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle has been tapped to write and direct the live-action adaptation of Gundam, which is being co-developed by Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, Gundam has been described as a space opera depicting a battle waged between massive mechs and armies of space colonies fighting for independence from Earth. The Gundam franchise has grown into a juggernaut over the decades, with dozens of TV shows, video games, manga, and much more.
Now, you may recall that this isn’t the first time Hollywood has attempted to get a live-action Gundam movie off the ground. It was announced in 2021 that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was working on a Gundam movie for Netflix and he seemed quite pumped about the project. Some concept art was even released showcasing one of the giant mechs, but Deadline’s report states that...

Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. During a recent press day, I caught up with Bruce Campbell, where we talked about his new role and his experience with satanic panic in the 1980s.
Synopsis: "When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a...

Plot: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.
Review: There have been many 1980s-set retro horror movies in recent years, ranging from My Best Friend’s Exorcism to Totally Killer and more. If you’re a circumspect first-time TV creator given vaguely free rein, you have two choices (for the purposes of this exercise).
One, you can render your vision in the most easily digestible way possible, to make a series that is clearly promotable and satisfyingly resolved, in the hopes of engineering a hit and getting to make other shows in the future.
Or two, you can throw every idea in your brain in the general vicinity of the screen, aware that success is never guaranteed and you may never have another shot.
Sure, the result of the second course of action might be complete and utter chaos that audiences won’t know how to process and networks won’t know how to sell. Still, at least you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing you left nothing on the table.

Matthew Scott Kane and David A. Goodman are taking audiences back to the Satanic Panic for a hilarious and twisty ride with Hysteria!. The TV show serves as Kane's biggest project to date as a writer, having primarily worked as a production assistant on everything from American Horror Story to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, while having also penned one episode of the ABC Family sci-fi crime drama Stitchers. Goodman, on the other hand, has six Emmy nominations under his belt for his work on Futurama and Family Guy, while also having worked on Seth MacFarlane's The Orville.
Created by Kane and showrun by him and Goodman, Hysteria! is set in a fictional small Michigan town in the '80s that is rocked by the disappearance of a local varsity quarterback, which seemingly points to a potential Satanic cult in the area. As the investigation continues, a trio...

The devil is in the details, or in the case of Hysteria!, in a local heavy metal band.
Hysteria! is one of two original series Peacock has lined up to scare the bejesus out of viewers this Halloween.
The other is Teacup, based on Robert McCammon’s 1988 science fiction horror novel Stinger, set to premiere on October 10.
(Photo: NBCU)
Horror icon Bruce Campbell guest stars in Hysteria! as the town’s police chief, so you know it’s going to be good.
Here’s everything else we know so far about Hysteria!
What is Hysteria About?
Set in the fictional town of Happy Hallow, Michigan, in the 1980s, Hysteria! explores the “satanic panic” of that era.
The story follows a group of high school kids who decide to put the pedal to the metal, literally, by rebranding their heavy metal band as a Satanic metal band.
Why would they do such a devilish thing?...

A few months ago, we got the release of the fifth film in WB/Legendary’s MonsterVerse saga, Godzilla x Kong: The New Era. These films have attempted to somewhat reinvent the traditional Kaiju film for Western audiences, with our mighty monster heroes being called Titans. While the franchise arguably stumbled out of the gate with director Gareth Edwards’ coolly received Godzilla, the saga has steadily grown in popularity, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was a big hit. But how do the films stack up against each other? Let’s take a look with our MonsterVerse Movies Ranked List!
Godzilla (2014)
Audiences were pretty hyped for Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla reboot, with awesome early trailers that used Ligeti’s Requiem II from 2001: A Space Odyssey, promising the most intense Kaiju movie to date. It didn’t really work out that way, with many complaining about how dull the film was,...

Helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, this reimagined origin story propels us onto an untamed Pacific island that’s as treacherous as it is magnificent. The visceral energy of the film carried us away, arousing the same feelings of awe and fear that only splendid visual storytelling can. No surprise then that the movie snagged a Best Visual Effects nomination at the Academy Awards.
With the world still talking about the film, speculation that the Loki star could be the burgeoning MonsterVerse’s Robert Downey Jr. has reached fever pitch.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga recently crashed into theaters, marking our return to the Mad Max Universe. However, an homage to Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series has sparked debate. Is the Dune star Oscar Issac the best fit to play the titular Solid Snake?
In a blink-and-you-miss-it scene, Praetorian Jack, as portrayed by Tom Burke, dons black face paint which produced a striking similarity to Snake’s bandana. The mixture of stealth-like cinematic combat and makeup instantly caught the attention of movie-goers.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the ninth entry in the King Kong franchise. The film remains Jackson’s only monster movie and he didn’t return to direct a sequel film. But he was interested to see a sequel of the film from one director who has a lifelong fascination with monsters. Jackson thought it would be great if Guillermo del Toro helmed the sequel, after hearing rumors of it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.

However, the sequel eventually went nowhere and WB rebooted the franchise with Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Del Toro’s work includes films like Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim. He had worked with Peter Jackson to write the screenplay of The Hobbit trilogy.

MonsterVerse is currently one of the most significant franchises in pop culture. It kickstarted with 2014’s Godzilla and went on to produce 4 films and 2 TV series. However, there is one film in the franchise that was initially conceived as a different venture, Kong: Skull Island.
The 2017 film was initially planned as a sequel to 2005’s King Kong. After the critical and commercial success of Peter Jackson’s King Kong remake, he thought of making a sequel. Co-incidentally, the director of the last two MonsterVerse films, Adam Wingard, was slated to direct it.

In an interview, director Adam Wingard revealed that he never had to make any official pitch for his MonsterVerse films. He shared the exciting story about the connection shared between Kong: Skull Island and the iconic Peter Jackson film starring Jack Black, Adrien Brody, and Naomi Watts.

The MonsterVerse keeps getting bigger and bigger, with the TV series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" landing a second season on Apple TV+ (along with multiple other spin-offs in the works) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" becoming the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever. (In case you missed it, you can check out our review of the latest monster mash right here.) The film takes place after Godzilla and Kong -- having joined forces for their battle against Mechagodzilla in "Godzilla vs. Kong" -- divide the planet between them. Godzilla stays on the surface, sleeping on the Roman Colosseum like a cat, while Kong goes on a little bachelor adventure in Hollow Earth.
However, things get complicated when Kong encounters a civilization of giant apes and winds up in a fight with their leader, Skar King. This leads to a larger battle against an army of giant apes and a...

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is off to a downright excellent start at the box office. The latest entry in Warner Bros. and Legendary's ongoing MonsterVerse franchise serves as a follow-up to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong," with the two titular Titans reluctantly teaming up to take down a bigger threat. It turns out that audiences are still very much on board with these movies, so much so that the latest installment pulled in a record-breaking $10 million during Thursday night preview screenings. This bodes very well for the movie's opening weekend prospects.
That $10 million figure represents a new record for the MonsterVerse, topping 2014's "Godzilla," which took in $9.3 million in preview grosses in its day en route to a whopping $93 million opening weekend. In comparison, 2017's "Kong: Skull Island" took in $3.7 million in previews before opening to $61 million, while 2019's "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" fell in the middle with...

2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" was one of the key movies that helped to save theaters as the industry was trying to recover from the pandemic. Now, the MonsterVerse returns with a new entry that is once again poised to give theaters a much-needed boost. "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" sees the two legendary monsters teaming up to tackle a new threat. What does that mean? Even more monsters! Three years later, moviegoers still appear to be eager to see these versions of these characters as the film is eyeing a strong debut at the box office over Easter weekend.
Director Adam Wingard's "Godzilla x Kong" is currently tracking to debut between $45 and $50 million over the holiday weekend, per Deadline. Unlike many holiday weekends, there is no Monday or Friday that the general public has off from work to help goose the numbers. Which means that, all things considered,...

They are Garret Dillahunt (The Last House on the Left remake), Nolan North (Pretty Little Liars), Elijah Richardson (Fantasy Football), Milly Shapiro (Hereditary), Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), and Jessica Treska (Alex & Me). Legendary visionary Hideo Kojima has expressed his satisfaction with the live-action debut of Moon Knight on his show exclusively streaming on Disney+. Moon Knight follows the story of a former mercenary named Mark Spector and how he received powers from the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu, and served as his avatar to exact his vengeance on those who mean harm while dealing with his other personality, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley.
The premise is definitely up the director’s alley, and this is the kind of story he finds interesting and the weirdness and spectacle is something he can relate to.

This year, Godzilla celebrates his 70th anniversary as the original, groundbreaking classic "Godzilla" was released in 1954. With all of those decades and dozens of films, it can be tough to break new ground. Well, Adam Wingard did that in 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" when he had the King of the Monsters get down on all fours and go "animalistic" on Kong during the film's climactic battle in Hong Kong. It's not really something we had seen before — at least not in that way — and it was certainly memorable. So, how did Wingard decide to have Godzilla do that in the movie, exactly?
Wingard participated in a Reddit Ama around the release of "Godzilla vs. Kong" back in 2021. A fan asked the director about Godzilla getting down on all fours. Aside from the creative choice, the filmmaker was also asked if Toho had to weigh in on the decision, as it...

Snake? Snake!? Snaaake! Stop me if you heard this one, folks. The long-gestating Metal Gear Solid movie may have hit another snag. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Oscar Isaac will no longer play Solid Snake in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s beloved video game fever dream.
It’s been a dog’s age since we heard any updates about Vogt-Roberts’ Metal Gear film project, with the last word coming from the director in 2021. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Roberts said the road to bringing Metal Gear Solid to theaters is long and winding.

James Gunn is launching the new DC Universe with a brand-new Superman (not to mention a new Supergirl), which puts the final nail in the coffin of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel… or does it? Fans are eager to find a way for Henry Cavill to return to the role and Argylle director Matthew Vaughn wonders if Superman: Red Son might be the perfect opportunity.
While speaking on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn praised Superman: Red Son, the Elseworlds mini-series written by Mark Millar. “I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn said, before wondering what it would be like if Henry Cavill reprised his role for the project.

The Metal Gear Solid movie has faced multiple setbacks and is unlikely to happen due to struggles with finding the right story. A24's announcement of a Death Stranding movie, in partnership with Kojima Productions, further decreases the chances of the Metal Gear Solid adaptation taking place. Compared to Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding is easier to adapt into a film due to its more accessible story.
For years, Oscar Isaac's Metal Gear Solid movie has been stuck in development hell. Following a new film announcement from A24, it looks even less likely that the adaptation of Hideo Kojima's signature series will happen at all. Since 2015, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been attached to helm Metal Gear Solid: The Movie, and, in 2018, Isaac expressed interest in playing protagonist Solid Snake. In 2020, Oscar Isaac was officially cast in the project, but little headway has been made on the film.

Nicholas Simon is busier than ever. The Thailand-based American producer has had a very productive 2023 thus far with all the various projects he’s been involved in via his production services company Indochina Productions making their mark. Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench did solid business at the global box office, Gareth Edwards’ The Creator became a hot topic in the industry due to its frugal budget and stunning use of real-life locations and VFX and Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard from Earth has wowed the crowds as the first film specifically made for the new $2.3 billion Sphere in Las Vegas.
After a tough few years for Asian film and TV production due to Covid, Simon sees the industry ramping back up in the region, attracted by proactive government incentives in places like Thailand and Japan, but also continued spending by the likes of Netflix, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

The Creator has been a long time coming for Gareth Edwards. The earliest spark of the movie occurred to him nearly seven years ago after finishing work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The world has thus had a lot of time to change and change again as the film developed. Which makes its arrival in cinemas in September 2023 feel like kismet. After all, this is a film about humans ruthlessly hunting down artificial intelligence, with the desire being to eradicate A.I., root and stem.
“I remember when we wrote the first draft about four years ago,” Edwards says when we catch up with him on the eve of The Creator’s theatrical release. “And there was a big studio note. Everyone who read the screenplay would ask, ‘But why would you ban A.I.? Why would anyone do that? That sounds like an amazing tool, it doesn’t make sense.

“No one is really creating original sci-fi blockbusters anymore, it’s an endangered species.”
Such was the wise insight from Gareth Edwards at the special screening of his latest movie The Creator last week. This from a filmmaker who has run the gamut from the half-million-budgeted 2010 indie Monsters to the $265 million-budgeted, billion-dollar-plus grossing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which despite any headlines about reshoots with Tony Gilroy truly had Edwards’ fingerprints on it down to its The Day After end-of-the-world finale.

The Creator follows ex-soldier Joshua on a mission to kill the mysterious AI architect, the Creator, who has created a powerful weapon in the form of a child. Director Gareth Edwards was inspired by his trip to Vietnam, where he imagined everyone as a robot, leading to the creation of a unique film combining elements of Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner. The film emphasizes the humanity of its characters, with the actors portraying AI robots as though they believe they are human, and explores the potential of AI to democratize filmmaking in the future.

The Creator, directed by Gareth Edwards, draws inspiration from Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner, resulting in a unique blend of war drama and AI-centric sci-fi storytelling. The movie sets itself apart from similar sci-fi stories by exploring the concept of a still-functioning society in the midst of a war with artificial intelligence. With a focus on the war for survival, The Creator offers audiences an unofficial Blade Runner chapter and showcases Gareth Edwards' directing return in exciting and distinct ways.
With the moving pulling from multiple genres, The Creator director Gareth Edwards explains how Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner have inspired his new sci-fi action movie. The movie marks Edwards' first stint behind the camera in seven years, his last project being the acclaimed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Led by John David Washington, The Creator centers on a grieving ex-special forces operative tasked with putting a stop to...

Peacock’s Twisted Metal series will debut on the streaming service tomorrow, but Anthony Mackie already knows what video game franchise he’d like to tackle next — Metal Gear Solid.
Anthony Mackie spoke with The Wrap about Twisted Metal and was asked what video game he’s love to see turned into a movie or TV show next. “There’s so many video games that I would love to see turned into movies just so you can go on a journey with those characters,” Mackie said. “They already did ‘Max Payne,’ they did so many of them already. It’s just another wave of it now. But I would love to do ‘Metal Gear Solid.’ I feel like there’s so many characters that we learned of and we fell in love with through video games that would make cool IP to turn into television shows and movies.“

Gareth Edwards drew inspiration for The Creator while traveling in Thailand and Vietnam, combining the imagery of the Vietnam War with a science fiction concept set in the Blade Runner universe. The film explores thought-provoking questions about artificial intelligence, including its sentience, the ethics of turning it off, and the potential risks it poses to humanity. Edwards realized that these themes were more relevant and closer to reality than he initially believed. Edwards emphasizes the use of readily-available cameras, such as the Sony FX3, for filming "The Creator," highlighting their capabilities in low-light conditions and the freedom they offered in terms of lighting. He expresses that he is unlikely to return to traditional filming methods.
Gareth Edwards returns to the director's chair after several years with his new original sci-fi movie The Creator, which arrives in September. He made a splash in 2016 with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which...

The Death Stranding movie, based on the 2019 sci-fi game, is in development despite the ongoing Hollywood strikes, and promising news is expected soon. Producer Allan Ungar assures that Hideo Kojima, the creator of the game, is involved in the movie's creative process every step of the way. Compared to the long-stuck Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation, the Death Stranding movie seems to be making faster progress, potentially marking a milestone for Kojima in having the first movie adaptation of his games move forward.
