People will be interested in a new Malaysian-Singaporean movie that mixes magic and crime, which starts filming this month. Adrian Teh directed “Magik Rompak,” which began shooting on November 9th with a budget of RM13 million. The movie promises to be a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience that combines high-stakes theft with theatrical illusion.

The movie is about a master magician who puts together an odd group of people to pull off a complicated heist involving a valuable gem. At its heart, the story looks at its characters’ complicated relationships and shared pasts as they try to pull off a daring crime.

Sharnaaz Ahmad and Zul Ariffin, new to acting after recent box-office hits, are in charge of the group. In 2023, Ahmad’s “Polis Evo 3” made RM54 million ($12.3 million), and this year, Ariffin’s “Sheriff” made RM62 million ($14.1 million).

Leading Malaysian director Adrian Teh has begun filming thriller “Magik Rompak,” a high-stakes heist thriller.

The narrative follows a leading magician who assembles a reluctant crew for an audacious and daring heist to steal a priceless gem. As their pasts intertwine and the stakes rise, the team must perfect the art of illusion, confront their own vulnerabilities, and orchestrate the ultimate vanishing act to protect their futures.

“Magik Rompak” is structured as a co-production and hails from Act 2 Pictures (Malaysia) and Clover Films (Singapore). May Woo of Act 2, Paulyn Chua and Lim Teck of Clover Films will serve as executive producers.

Clover will be handling international sales. Gsc will be handling theatrical distribution in Malaysia. Clover and Gv will handle theatrical distribution in Singapore.

Disney+ Hotstar to launch in Malaysia with premieres of local films

Streamer has multi-year agreements with leading Malaysian studios, including Skop Productions and Primeworks Studios.

The Walt Disney Company is rolling out its Disney+ Hotstar streaming service in Malaysia on June 1, with a wide range of local and other Asian content to complement its Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic brands.

As part of the local content offering, the service has entered into a series of multi-year agreements with leading Malaysian studios, including Skop Productions, Revolution Media Films, Primeworks Studios, Wau Animation, Act 2 Pictures, Les’ Copaque Production and Red Films, among others.
