Star Wars has plans for its fourth official spin-off movie, although this one may be its most divisive yet. Since the launch of the Star Wars sequel trilogy in 2015, the star-faring brand has started dipping its toes into the world of cinematic spin-offs. So far, this has come to fruition in the form of Rogue One and Solo. There were originally plans for even more spin-off projects; however, those have since slowed down, with Disney being more intentional about how it releases Star Wars content. 

A new report revealed Lucasfilm and Disney may be actively developing a fourth Star Wars spin-off film. This joins the likes of Solo, Rogue One, and the long-gestating Lando led by Atlanta star Donald Glover (spinning off of Solo and Lando Calrissian as a character) as spin-offs of other Star Wars movies, either released or planned for the Lucasfilm slate.

Donald Glover will return to a galaxy far, far away, reprising his role as Lando Calrissian for a new Disney+ series that he’ll also write with his brother, Stephen, according to The Hollywood Reporter (and first reported by Above the Line).

A Lando series has been on the Disney docket since 2020, two years after Glover played a young version of the character (originally played by Billy Dee Williams) in the 2018 movie Solo. The Glovers reportedly signed the deal to write the new series in May, before the Writers Guild of America started.

Justin Simien has nothing but good thoughts about the people who replaced him as writer on Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” series focused on Lando Calrissian, Donald Glover and Stephen Glover.

“Donald is a national treasure. Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward their way,” Simien wrote in an Instagram story Thursday night. “Can’t wait to see. Rooting for everybody Black.”
