Van Helsing Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Super Unknown
Van Helsing takes the sisters on a journey into the past, and they recover the first of the Elders' totems.

TV

This Van Helsing review contains spoilers.

Van Helsing Season 3 Episode 2

“I’m trying to stop an apocalypse, so I’m not really dating right now.”

For much of its run, Van Helsing has operated as a traditional post-apocalyptic tale so prevalent in contemporary television and film. Tonight that changes a bit, and we experience much of what makes classic horror fiction so compelling. “Super Unknown” finds Vanessa facing the opening leg of her most arduous ordeal yet as she prepares to knock out the Elders one by one, ridding the world, once and for all, of the vampire scourge. However, friction between the sisters bubbles to the surface, and even Vanessa finally admits that she has changed, and not necessarily for the better.

Putting some of the traditional doomsday trappings momentarily aside,...

“You want a monster? I’ll give you a monster.”

Van Helsing returns and “Fresh Tendrils” seamlessly picks up where the season two finale leaves off. There’s a lot going on here, but Neil Labute deftly handles all the moving plot parts making it easy for viewers to comfortably slide back into the third installment of this rapidly changing world.

Whether it’s a flashback or a childhood memory, the peek into 1986 provides another view of Vanessa’s early life and the abandonment issues that fuel her present desire to operate...

'Motive's' Brendan Penny talks Det. Lucas and teases a 'really well done' episode titled 'Framed'
After a preview episode on Monday, "Motive" premieres in its official timeslot Thursday night (May 23) at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC. Brendan Penny stars as Det. Brian Lucas, a cop who is new to the homicide game.

"He was nine years in financial crimes," Penny tells Zap2it about his character. "So obviously he's fantastic at doing research and computer work. Bit by bit [throughout the season], he does progress and become a lot more savvy, but it's a slow progression."

"He's the guy who does a lot of the grunt work," laughs Penny. "But he does get more involved throughout the season, interviewing people, trying to solve the crimes as well."

The hook with "Motive" is that the killer and victim are revealed right at the start of each episode and the trick is figuring out how they are connected, which Penny says really attracted him to the show.

"What I...
