Danny Elfman will reunite with Sam Raimi to compose the score for the survival thriller Send Help.
“I’m just finishing a score for Gus Van Sant and a really fun thriller,” the composer told journalist Andrew Freund. “And then I start another thriller with Sam Raimi that they just finished shooting in Australia called Send Help.”
The two icons of cinema previously collaborated on Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Oz the Great and Powerful, A Simple Plan, Darkman, and the Army of Darkness theme. Elfman also cameoed in Raimi’s The Gift.
Send Help lands in theaters on January 30, 2026 from 20th Century Studios.

Disney pushed the opening of “Elio,” the studio’s upcoming Pixar film, by a week, while unveiling the release dates of Sam Raimi’s “Send Help” and James L. Brooks’ “Ella McCay.”
“Ella McCay,” which marks Brooks’ return to the director’s chair after 2010’s “How Do You Know,” has been bumped to a Dec. 12 release date. It had initially been slated for a Sep. 19 bow. Both dates come on different ends of the fall festival season and could signal an awards season push.
Brooks, an Oscar-winner who made classics like “As Good as it Gets,” “Broadcast News” and “Terms of Endearment,” also wrote the script for the comedy. It stars Emma Mackey as the title character, with an ensemble that includes Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Albert Brooks. Sam Raimi's exciting latest turn to the director's chair is now complete, according to the Instagram of his co-producer and president of Raimi Productions, Zainab Azizi, with Raimi's return to horror marking a hotly anticipated revival of the genre that made the Hollywood legend so famous. In the past 15 years, the world of horror filmmaking has been sadly without Raimi's directing talents, with the genius being the Evil Deadfranchisenot seen crafting blood and guts since 2009's Drag Me to Hell. Now, he is back, and he is also finished with production, perfectly summarized via the picture on Azizi's Instagram, available to view below. Accompanying the picture, Azizi wrote:

Back in October, we heard that Rachel McAdams was in talks to reteam with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi on the 20th Century Studios horror thriller Send Help, which Raimi would be producing and directing. McAdams was quickly joined in the cast by Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner), Chris Pang (Interior Chinatown), and Dennis Haysbert (24). Filming began in early February – and now it has been revealed that production has wrapped, with the film on track for a January 30th, 2026 theatrical release!
In 2007, it was rumored that Sam Raimi would be producing a fantasy film with a screenplay written by Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th 2009 writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. That didn’t pan out, but a decade later Raimi considered directing a Bermuda Triangle project that once had Shannon and Swift working on the script. Again, that didn’t pan out, with...

We're officially returning to the world of Crazy Rich Asians — just maybe not in the way we originally thought. While there is, allegedly, still a sequel film in the works to the 2018 blockbuster romantic comedy (as far as we know!), Max has confirmed that a series, from co-writer Adele Lim and director Jon M. Chu, is well underway at the streamer.
The news was reported by Variety, confirming rumors that began circulating back in 2024, after the 2022 reports of a sequel following Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr.'s characters failed to immediately materialize. This may be due in part to co-writer (alongside Peter Chiarelli) Adele Lim departing Jon M. Chu's intended adaptations of the subsequent Kevin Kwan novels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, because of a pay dispute that she described as racist and sexist. But now, with Lim back on board to show-run and executive produce this series alongside Chu as EP,...

In 2018, the filmCrazy Rich Asians became a surprise hit, earning $240 million worldwide. The movie, based on the 2013 Kevin Kwan series of novels, was nominated for both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards and one of its stars, Michelle Yeoh, won a SAG award.
Its box office and critical success made it seem like a sequel to the film was the next logical step, but that won’t be the case. Instead, Crazy Rich Asians will be rebooted as a TV series for Max, per The Hollywood Reporter. The movie followed the story of Rachel (Constance Wu), a Chinese-American professor, who goes to Singapore only to find that her boyfriend, Nick (Henry Golding) is a member of one of Singapore’s richest families.

It's hard to believe that director Sam Raimi, someone who has become synonymous with the horror genre, has only made one real horror movie in the last three decades. It's a testament to the enduring influence and brilliance of his Evil Dead movies (not to mention the underrated superhero horror movie Darkman). Now, the filmmaker is returning to horror with Send Help, which now has a release date. The film will play in theaters on January 30, 2026, and is set to be released by 20th Century Studios.
Per a report by Variety, the announcement was made after Disney, the company that owns 20th Century Studios, made a few changes to the release schedule of their upcoming features. Elio, the latest Pixar-Disney endeavor, has been pushed back one week, and Raimi's Send Help and James L. Brooks' Ella McCay both received theatrical release dates. If you haven’t watched Interior Chinatown‘s 10 episodes on Hulu yet, you’re missing out on one of the year’s weirdest, wildest rides. Based on the National Book Award-winning novel from Charles Yu (the former writer for HBO’s Westworld also serves as this series’ showrunner), the meta romp follows Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), a bored waiter at his uncle Wong’s (Archie Kao) Chinatown restaurant. Willis is also unknowingly (at first) a background character in cop procedural Black & White (a spoof on Law & Order and the like). With dreams of being a kung fu hero, Willis works his way from a background character into a lead, all while solving a years-in-the-making Chinatown-centric case under the guidance of glamorous transfer Detective Lana Lee. And it’s all seemingly connected to his long-missing older brother (played by Chris Pang). The story gets even weirder ...

After an ultra-successful opening weekend for Wicked, filmmaker Jon M. Chu is opening up about the long-awaited Crazy Rich Asians sequel, another of the director's immensely popular films. While Wicked: Part 2 is already on the calendar debuting November 21, 2025 a follow-up to the 2018 smash hit Crazy Rich Asians is, unfortunately, nowhere to be seen. That said, a sequel is certainly on Chu's mind.
In a chat with Deadline, Chu expressed his desire to revisit the Crazy Rich Asians universe if and only if they can do it right. Every TV fan has fantasized about being the main character.
Whether it’s a spy thriller, sci-fi epic, or living in a loft with a bunch of weird roommates, to watch TV is to imagine oneself in it as part of a bigger picture. But as so many minority actors can attest, Hollywood is quick to reality check a person’s dream of being the hero. There are stereotypes and tropes and prescribed roles that moviemakers can’t get enough of, even when they stifle a character and performer’s true potential.
All of that informs the fresh commentary and characterization of Charles Yu’s “Interior Chinatown,” based on his own novel of the same name. What if the people pushed into the periphery were aware of it, and how can they move organically into the main story?
In “Interior Chinatown,” our main character is not the hero even in his own eyes.

On a cop show, no one is supposed to be more compelling than the cops themselves. One rung below them is the crime victim, whose backstory has to be interesting enough for us to care that our heroes are trying to bring them justice, even posthumously. Still lower on the ladder are all the bit players, whose contributions to the cops’ investigation might seem insignificant, but collectively fill out the picture: the retail clerk who digs out a receipt that helps to establish a timeline; the barmaid who remembers the victim was harassed by a regular; the neighbor who heard upsetting sounds through the wall.
Comfortable though we may be with the rhythms of a detective procedural — which, after all, conform to an endlessly repeatable format — Interior Chinatown has questions. Which crime victims’ stories are selected to be told, and why? Who should tell them? And what happens when one...

Plot: Based on Charles Yu’s award-winning book of the same name, the show follows the story of Willis Wu, a background character trapped in a police procedural called Black & White. Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables, dreaming about a world beyond Chinatown and aspiring to be the lead of his own story. When Willis inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, he begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, while discovering his own family’s buried history and what it feels like to be in the spotlight.
Review: Interior Chinatown is an interesting approach to telling a meta-fictional story. Rather than breaking the fourth wall or setting a story within a story, this series takes the approach of interconnecting characters often relegated to the background and showing how they can break free of their stereotypical and cliche constraints to...

A strange irony lies at the heart of Hulu’s Interior Chinatown. Its protagonist is Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), an unassuming waiter who’s always dreamt of being the hero but despairs of forever being relegated to, as he sighs, “a background character in someone else’s story.” Ostensibly, this very show represents his chance to change that — to take control of his own narrative, to seize his own destiny, to carve out his own role in a world all too eager to shove him into a series of stereotypical boxes.
But the only way that Interior Chinatown can apparently think to achieve that is by shoving him into yet another box, this time as an avatar for someone else’s cultural analysis. It’s a bigger box, to be sure, with more room for experimentation and cheeky self-awareness. But it’s a box all the same, prioritizing the...

Classic summer movies evoke nostalgia and capture the unique atmosphere of the season in various genres. Summer blockbusters have evolved over the years, shaping big-budget cinema and entertaining audiences. From romcoms to horror, summer movies offer a range of experiences, tapping into the essence of the season.
The start of summer means that it's time to return to some classic summer movies to help welcome the season. Summer at the movie theater usually means that there are plenty of big-budget blockbusters. While there are plenty of exciting upcoming movies hitting theaters this summer, including A Quiet Place: Day One and Deadpool & Wolverine, the season has inspired filmmakers in a wide variety of genres.
Romcoms are naturally suited to summer, as are coming-of-age dramas. There's something nostalgic about long summers that seems to fit with both these genres. However, there are also horror movies, crime dramas and musicals which manage...

Keanu Reeves has been at the forefront of some of cinema's most important franchises, including "The Matrix" and "John Wick." Even one of his biggest bombs has, against all odds, also become a franchise. Reeves starred in Universal's tremendously expensive blockbuster "47 Ronin" back in 2013. It was a major flop at the time and actually hurt the actor's career a bit. But nearly a full decade later, everything came full circle, and a sequel to that flop was released. Yes, was! As in, it already came out ... last year.
"Blade of the 47 Ronin" is a sequel to the movie in question, and debuted in 2022. One would be forgiven for not realizing it, as it wasn't quite as big as the original, to put it mildly. Unfortunately, Reeves didn't return for the follow-up, but for those who enjoyed that film, there is a sequel out there you can watch right now.

Everything you need to know about Judith (Ally Maki) and Steve’s (Luke Roberts) marriage arrives during their first “share” at the summer retreat where they’ve brought their daughters (Nyha Huang Breitkreuz’s Stephanie and Remy Marthaller’s Emmy) to play while repairing whatever has broken between them. After Steve passes the buck by saying she wanted them to come, Judith attempts to honestly organize her thoughts around her mother’s recent passing. Before she can finish, however, he forcefully interjects: “Five months ago.

“Good morning, Charlie,” became an iconic line that made its mark on the spy stories genre in movies and television. These stories are filled with action, comedy, and intricate villains that are as evil as they are entertaining to watch. There have been a few productions that feature these agents, and the newest installment came out four years ago, Charlie’s Angels.
The previous project with the Angels was made eight years before the new movie, and a lot changed in between. The film has an incredible cast, with famous actors playing almost every role, and the leads are Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott. The Angels don’t fight against their femininity but embrace it and use it to their advantage, something that solidifies their brand and stands out from the other stories. As Kristen Stewart's character said in the movie, "At my job, it's actually considered a huge advantage to be a woman.

From Crazy Rich Asians to just “crazy good," Joy Ride is the best comedic ensemble film since Bridesmaids and The Hangover, and swings the pendulum so far opposite from almost any mainstream Asian narrative you’ve seen before.
Joy Ride follows four unlikely friends — Asian American adoptee Audrey, her longtime best friend, Lolo, Lolo's eccentric cousin, Deadeye, and Chinese soap opera star Kat — on an international adventure turned sideways.
Loosely based off actual "hot mess friends," screenwriters Cherry Chevapravatdumrong (Family Guy) and Teresa Hsiao (Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens) penned the script for Crazy Rich Asians co-screenwriter Adele Lim in her directorial debut here.
The film also stars Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina is Nora From Queens), David Denman (Greenland), and "thirst traps" Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Solider), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), and Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians).

Director Adele Lim Responds to Critic Who Says Joy Ride 'Objectifies Men' and 'Targets White People'
Adele Lim's Joy Ride follows the story of an Asian American adoptee, Audrey, (Ashley Park) who heads to China to find her birth mother. She enlists the help of three friends, Lolo, Deadeye and Kat, and the four embark on what turns out to be a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery.
Joy Ride, Lim's directorial debut, has earned plenty of praise ahead of its theatrical release, but one critic recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the film. @LCJReviews called the film "embarrassing" and "unpleasant" adding "Like most modern adult 'comedies' it's raunchy simply to be raunchy, forgetting there has to be humor attached, and there's none of that. Objectifies men, targets white people. All shock value, 'look at me' attitude." Lim responded to the review, but opted for a comedic response rather than becoming defensive, writing: "Imma need 'Objectifies men, targets white people' on a tshirt.

"Let's just be adults!" Lionsgate has dropped in another brand new raunchy red band trailer for the summer comedy Joy Ride, opening in theaters everywhere in early July. This earned rave reviews at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. From the producers of Neighbors, and the co-screenwriter from Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon, Joy Ride stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. The film follows four Asian-American women as they bond and discover the truth of what it means to know and love who you are, while they travel through Asia in search of one of their birth mothers. The cast also includes Ronny Chieng, Desmond Chiam, Alexander Hodge, and Chris Pang. This looks as all out ridiculous and depraved and hilarious as it should! Don't miss the comedy everyone is saying is the funniest of the year so far.

Who would have thought we would be seeing a sequel to 47 Ronin among all of the Halloween goodies? But sure enough, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the company’s direct-to-video department, has come up with Blade of the 47 Ronin, a modern-day sequel to the Keanu Reeves samurai epic. And they said there’s no such thing as The Great Pumpkin.
Somewhere in Budapest Yurei kills Arai thought to be the last in the bloodline of those who wielded the Blade of the 47 Ronin. But as he kills him he senses the existence of another heir.
As the other clans argue over what to do about the sword and the prophecy attached to it, Onami one of Lord Shinshiro’s onna-bugeisha reaches out to Reo.
