Britain’s Queen Elizabeth to Celebrate Jubilee With Star-Studded Concert, Mary Berry-Judged Bake Off and Parade
Image
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will mark 70 years on the throne this summer with a star-studded concert, a parade, a pageant and a baking competition presided over by former “The Great British Bake-Off” judge Mary Berry, among numerous other events.

In February, the Queen will become the first British monarch to reach her platinum jubilee, surpassing Queen Victoria’s 63-year-long reign.

Now aged 95, the Queen ascended to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952 when her father, George VI, died of coronary thrombosis.

Among dozens of events planned to mark the occasion are a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral in honor of her long reign, celebratory street parties across the U.K. and the lighting of 1,500 beacons across the country. In the run-up to the event, 60,000 trees have also been planted in the Queen’s name to promote the issue of climate change.

Events to mark the celebration also include:

‘MasterChef’ Heads Back Into Production In The UK Following Coronavirus Lockdown
Image
Exclusive: MasterChef is officially back in production in the UK after Shine got cameras rolling on spin-off show MasterChef: The Professionals last week.

Filming is underway on Season 13 of the professionals’ franchise at 3 Mills Studios in London, with Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace resuming their hosting and judging duties — albeit with a socially distanced twist.

MasterChef: The Professionals is the first of the UK MasterChef brands to go into production in the pandemic era. Celebrity MasterChef is currently broadcasting on BBC One but wrapped just before lockdown in March.

3 Mills Studios has been MasterChef’s home in the UK for a number of years and it is understood that the large studio space used to house the show has been an advantage in getting production underway.

A MasterChef spokeswoman said: “We are ensuring that all Covid-19 filming protocols are being adhered to as set out in industry-wide filming guidelines published last week.

MasterChef: The Professionals - Marcus Wareing joins as new judge
Marcus Wareing has signed up to become a new judge on MasterChef: The Professionals.

The culinary expert - who has two Michelin stars, winning his first at the age of 25 - will join Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace on the panel when the show returns later this year.

He takes over from Michel Roux Jr, who was forced to quit the series because of a "conflict in commercial interests" and later complained that "negotiating with the BBC can be a frustrating process".

Wareing, who began his career at The Savoy when he was 18, already runs two restaurants in London and will open his third - Tredwell's - in September.

"I have been watching MasterChef since I was a young kid at catering college, and in more recent years I have enjoyed an established relationship with the programme," Wareing said.

"To now become part of the show is hugely exciting for...

'MasterChef' judge: 'Great British Bake Off not as fancy as French version'
MasterChef: The Professionals judge Michel Roux Jr has said that British cooking shows are not as fancy as their French counterparts.

The chef explained that The Great British Bake Off and its French version are the same format, "but the tests are a little bit more fancy – put it that way".

He also discussed France's MasterChef, where the contestants are challenged to taste raw animal innards and identify the creature they come from.

Of whether the British MasterChef could follow suit, Roux revealed that he and fellow judge Monica Galetti had been trying to persuade producers.

"To be brutally honest, I do hope one day we get to that stage," he told the Radio Times.

"We will get there. Personally, I don't find that shocking and I strongly believe that the British viewer is ready – that the British viewer would be quite happy to watch that and would be fascinated.

British TV Reviews: "Psychoville," "Masterchef Professionals," and "The Trip"
Masterchef: The Professionals

The concept of "Masterchef" is as follows: the only people left in the country who don't want to achieve fame via Simon Cowell-approved "talent" contests, attempt to achieve fame and glory by becoming Britain's "masterchef." The amateurs audition by cooking some sort of dumb dish out of a selection of ingredients (usually scallops on a bed of pea puree) for the judges, then cooking in a professional restaurant and then making more dishes for panels of experts etcetera etcetera etcetera until there are only a few people left in the competition and finally one of them makes a monk-fish tartare with pancetta tuiles and salsifi quenelles on a bed of chilli-infused bouillabaisse that is so divine that he or she wins it. It's one of the best programmes on television. Suck it, "Mad Men."

What makes "Masterchef" so hilariously addictive are the judges: John Torode, a kind of surly,...
