Telemundo Captures Top Spanish-Language Primetime Audience For Second Consecutive Month
Image
Telemundo has another month as the top Spanish-language broadcast network under its belt.

The network continues to take over primetime, averaging 1.2M total viewers each day from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in April. That marks the second consecutive month that Telemundo has beat its competition, including Univision — a first for the broadcaster.

In the 18-49 demo, Telemundo also outperformed the competition with 344,000 average viewers.

Similar to March, the viewership was fueled by the reality series La Casa de los Famosos, which was once again the top Spanish-language primetime show in April with 1.4M average viewers tuning in during its weekday time slot. It’s Sunday time slot raked in an average of 1.3M total viewers.

The scripted drama El Señor de Los Cielos also helped boost Telemundo’s audience. According to Nielsen, the series ranked first in its 10 p.m. time slot on Spanish-language TV. Among the 18-49 demo,...

Telemundo Scores Two-Month Ratings Winning Streak in Spanish-Language TV
Image
Telemundo is riding the longest ratings winning streak it’s ever had in Spanish-language television.

The NBCUniversal-owned network has topped Univision in primetime for two consecutive months, closing out April with substantial leads over its rival. Telemundo averaged 1.2 million total viewers and 344,000 adults 18-49 for the month, topping Univision by margins of 21 percent and 22 percent in the two measures.

That’s a big change among the Spanish-language broadcasters, where Univision has long been the leader (and still holds the edge for the 2023-24 season as a whole).

The two-month streak has been powered by the reality series La Casa de los Famosos — a version of Celebrity Big Brother — and Telemundo’s long-running novela El Señor de los Cielos, which is currently in its ninth season. La Casa de los Famosos led all of Spanish-language TV in April, with weeknight editions averaging 1.4 million viewers and 387,000 adults 18-49. Sunday episodes checked...

Telemundo Aims for Big Ratings as the Broadcast Home for ‘Miss Universe’ | Exclusive
Image
As the only broadcast network airing Saturday’s “Miss Universe” pageant live from El Salvador, Telemundo aims to bring in big ratings after seeing “great results” last year, exec Ronald Day told TheWrap exclusively.

The 72nd edition of “Miss Universe,” which will debut at 6 p.m. Et/3 p.m. Pt on Telemundo, will be hosted in Spanish by Jacqueline Bracamontes and Danilo Carrera as 2022 winner R’Bonney Gabriel crowns her successor. The last “Miss Universe” pageant boosted Telemundo to become the most-watched Spanish-language network that night as it averaged 2.4 million total viewers and 875,000 in the key broadcast demo among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen figures.

For Day, who serves as entertainment and content strategy president for the Spanish-language network, the success of “Miss Universe” lies in the tradition, pride and celebration of the event, which follows in the footsteps of similar traditions for Hispanic communities, including baptisms, quinceañeras and weddings.

Telemundo Adds ‘Series Premium’ Sunday Drama Showcase
In a bid to keep up with the fast-evolving TV viewing habits of its audience, Telemundo has launched a new Sunday night drama franchise billed as “Series Premium.”

The new weekly program aims to bring a host of high-concept series that run 10 to 15 episodes per season, a big shift from the traditional telenovela focus of Spanish-language TV. The initial roster of shows for the Sunday night showcase include “El Recluso,” bio-series “Nicky Jam: El Ganador,” crime drama “Falco,” and “El Secreto de Selena,” among others.

“Our objective is to carve a space on Sunday nights with shorter, high-value, high-ip stories, featuring world- class talent,” said Luis Silberwasser, president of Telemundo Networks. Telemundo recently tapped former Univision programming exec Ronald Day to serve as exec VP of Programming for Telemundo Networks.

Telemundo’s push into recurring series that mirror the offerings of English-language networks reflect the NBCUniversal network’s push to draw a younger audience.
