Derek Cox is a Chicago-based Director of Photography and owner of Polymyth Productions LLC. He has been making films since 2007 and founded Polymyth Productions (formerly Distract Chicago) in 2011 with co-owner Dan Finnen.
Born and raised in Bedford, Indiana, Derek has always been around stories. He credits his father, grandfather, and great uncle for being excellent storytelling role models - always with an anecdote to share. He combined these skills, along with a love for photography and music production to become a well-rounded cinematographer.
In his first year in business, Derek helped produce over 100 comedy videos. Being basically a two-man band, he and his business partner had to wear a lot of hats. Derek took on the role of co-director, DP, editor and sound designer and these jobs follow him throughout most of his projects. This approach has helped to create streamlined content with a singular vision and a high standard of quality control.
When not producing films and commercials, Derek enjoys cooking, performing improv comedy at iO Chicago, and watching too much TV with his wife.
