Modern scream queen Jenna Ortega has been a part of several iconic franchises, given her roles in Scream, Wednesday, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. If she had her pick to join any franchise she wanted to next, she pointed to the one born from the 1984 horror comedy classic Gremlins.

Per IMDb, Ortega was recently at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) to promote her new film, Death of a Unicorn. Late last year, a rumor did the rounds that the highly-anticipated second season of X-Men '97 wouldn't premiere until 2026, and the lengthy wait has now been confirmed by Marvel's Brad Winderbaum.

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now," Winderbaum tells Collider. "It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."

When asked if we could expect more animated shows - and possibly a feature - to be announced soon, Winderbaum played it a little closer to the vest.

It seems that fans of X-Men '97 now know when they will see the animated Marvel show return, but it is not going to be as soon as expected. While many fans believed that the new season would roll out this year, Marvel Studios exec Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview with Collider that Season 2 will not hit Disney+ until 2026. He said:

But Disney's legacy sequel series, "X-Men '97," debuted to great reviews, providing '90s kids everywhere with a straight shot of animated nostalgia. Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch will start streaming on Max Oct. 1, just in time for the spooky season. Although set at Christmastime, the 1984 original Gremlins packs a scary punch at any time of the year, especially during Octobers Halloween season.

Set in the fictional town of Kingston Falls, Gremlins stars Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates and Hoyt Axton. The film was written by Chris Columbus, who also wrote The Goonies, Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and directed by Joe Dante. Steven Spielberg served as executive producer. Composer Jerry Goldsmiths score sets the tone for the film.

Last year, after more than thirty years, we finally got a new entry in the Gremlins franchise – and this was an unexpected addition, coming in the form of the animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, which serves as a prequel to the 1984 classic Gremlins (watch it Here). Max has just released the official trailer for Gremlins: The Wild Batch, the second season of the animated series that follows Secrets of the Mogwai. Also unveiled is the official key art for the new season.

Gremlins: The Wild Batch is set to drop on Max with its streaming premiere on Oct. 3. Ahead of the release, the trailer showcases what's to come, teasing a trip from Shanghai to the United States. Back in March, the surprising news broke that Marvel Studios/Disney had fired X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo shortly before the animated revival show's world premiere.

Since then, the internet has been rife with rumors and speculation about what might have led to DeMayo's dismissal, and last month, Marvel finally released a statement on the matter.

"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."

Though no specific details were revealed, we have since heard that DeMayo was terminated for sending lewd photos to members of his staff, and there have been further reports of him being physically and sexually inappropriate with several of his colleagues.

DeMayo has denied this, suggesting that his firing was simply due to homophobia, and claiming that he was stripped of his X-Men '97...

Channing Tatum certainly made a name for himself via his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. A.J. LoCascio, the voice actor for Gambit/Remy LeBeau in the critically acclaimed series X-Men '97, has put his unique spin on Channing Tatum's now-iconic line from Deadpool & Wolverine.

In a recent social media post, LoCascio shared a clip of himself delivering the line in Gambit's distinct New Orleans Cajun accent. As revealed at D23, several iconic characters from the pages of Marvel Comics are about to receive their debuts in the hotly-anticipated second season of X-Men '97. These include Polaris, Havoc, and the living embodiment of the Danger Room known as Danger. Adventure awaits in Gremlins: The Wild Batch! This animated prequel to the classic Gremlins flicks transports audiences to 1920s Shanghai, where a young Sam Wing (Izaac Wang) crosses paths with the adorably cute Mogwai, Gizmo (A.J. LoCascio). Sam's tasked with getting Gizmo back home, but things quickly go sideways in the best possible way. Along with street-savvy teen Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh), the gang ventures through the Chinese countryside, bumping intoand sometimes battlingan array of fantastical monsters and mischievous spirits from Chinese folklore. All the while, they're being chased by a greedy industrialist who's amassing an army of evil Gremlins.
